It's not your imagination.
Orange juice is not going as far as it used to. Same for toilet paper. Dish soap. And cheese slices.
You are making more trips to the store.
In fact, a Consumer Reports investigation found that while many products have reduced their packaging size; their prices have actually increased.
It how businesses are dealing with higher prices for wholesale food and energy. Instead of raising prices significantly, companies are shrinking the packaging.
They are hoping you do not notice too much.
Consumer Reports (paid subscription required) first noticed the trend when they started hearing complains about higher toilet paper prices despite smaller packaging. Their investigation identified many other products.
Here is a complete rundown of Consumer Reports findings...

Even worse, stealth inflation !
Okay, seriously?? You lifted your blog word-for-word from this blog!

The last ‘big’ can of coffee I purchased at Walmart had dropped to 27.8 oz from a previous 34.7 oz.
The ‘large’ can used to be 48 oz or 3 pounds — 25 years ago.
Wait...you mean you can’t print prosperity?
I was noticing last summer.
Been keeping an eye out for when more size decrease/price increases hits, buying what I can store NOW. Been doing that for awhile.
Better yet, how about both of your blogs just linking to the Consumer Reports original article? Same info, but not filtered through your regurgiblog.
That was one of the items I noticed.
Not only are they making the sheet sizes smaller, the roll length is getting shorter too.
*or however low it currently is
yikes, thats a lot of sugar...:O) I live alone and it would take a year to go through that...Sugar was so high in price a decade or so ago, that restaurants wouldn’t even put in on the tables for about a year. Thats when I noticed 4 pound bags instead of 5 pound. It was quite a while ago, could have even been more than 10 years ago.
I’ve been noticing this for a number of years with coffee being the first. Product sizes have been shrinking. I am waiting for a dozen eggs to only contain 10.
>>Even blog excerpts are getting shorter.<<
Yes they
I notice....
Good for us with all the government regs. We can read the packaging specs and know what we are buying. Now we can make sensible decisions such as narrow with added length or wider with less length.
cottage cheese....the large size used to be 32oz....not...28oz...
Of course, they all started growing marijuana instead . . . .
This article mentions an average of $350 or so per month for groceries. Is that for one person? We spend about $1200 a month, serious, but that is for a couple of teen boys and four other people. Also we never eat out. I thought we were keeping it pretty low! Am I spending too much?
unit pricing is helpful....compare, compare...compare....the food giants have to learn that for most things we’ll go for the cheaper item...
Yes.
Geez, I went throught this same thing during Jimmy Carter’s term...everything old is new again.
