WFAA: Woman who has lived in Irving since age 6 faces deportation
Dallas Morning News (blog) - ^ | Jan 28, 2011 | Katherine Leal Unmuth

Olga Zanella , 20, grew up in Irving, attending school in Irving ISD as a child. But she hid a secret--she is an illegal immigrant from Mexico. According to WFAA, she found out she was in the country illegally during her junior year of high school, after attending a college financial aid workshop.

She now faces deportation Monday because her status was discovered by Irving police during a traffic stop.

Her story reflects the story of many children who are now growing up in the city, and could face similar fates.

"I feel fear," she told WFAA. "It's going to be hard for me to adapt. It's a different atmosphere."

No, I probably would not turn them in. But that wouldn’t make me right.

This person is not facing jail, just deportation. She should be mad at her parents for this, in my opinion.

Art stolen by the Nazis has been returned to its rightful owners, even if it’s the descendants of the thieves who are returning them. I agree with their actions.

Just my two cents.

Nobody said anything about prison.

DEPORT THEM. Now. I don’t care about their sob story. They are ILLEGALY LIVING HERE.

DEPORT THEM.

What part of that solution is hard to understand?

Just because you have been breaking the law for over a decade does not make the law invalid.

Regardless of how sympathetic her “plight” might actually be, she is still here illegally, whether she knew it or not.

And there you have it. I have a tremendous amount of sympathy for her. I'd be depressed too if I learned I couldn't live in the greatest country on earth. However sad that may be, there are others who are playing by the rules waiting to get in.

Granted, I did nothing of substance to earn my entitlement other than safely making it through the birth canal of a US citizen in West Lafayette, Indiana. But dems da rules.

A good reporter, even a leftist / even someone who personally favors “open borders,” would have asked some of the questions you did. Of course, how many good reporters are there?

LOL - Maybe you don't understand the word hypothetical, so you probably do not understand.

It is a shame her parents did this to her. She is a victim of her parents’ irresponsibility, not the U.S.’s.

There may be a time when illegal immigration is my only real alternative. If it is ever so, I expect I may have to pay some consequences. It is unreasonable to think otherwise. Whatever country I am illegally emigrating to does not owe me anything.

I would not turn in my parents. I also would not blame others for their misdeeds.

I understand what hypothetical means.

I also understand that you’re inviting me to join you in meandering down a “hypothetical” wetback sympathy path and I’m not going there.

You’ll just have to go on your own.

attending school in Irving ISD as a child

So that's what, about 5k a year? She started in 1st grade.

Her parents got a $60K benefit in the form of her 1-12 grade education for swimming the river. Not bad, huh?

Thanks to the Supreme idiots who foisted Plyler v. Doe on the nation.

I find it hard to believe she did not know she was here illegally. She never questioned why she could not get a drivers license ? She goes on in video to say, she is shielding her family memebers who are here illegally. The advocate for her maintains the child should not be blamed for the parents crimes, but he does not address how it should be the parents facing criminal charges and not the girl.He just overlooks parents criminal actions.

What? Taking money each day from my job as a cashier is against the law? I've been doing it for 14 years ... please don't punish me! I didn't know I was doing anything illegal!

Yeah, it's an extreme example ... but not any more legal than what this family has done. Sorry. If you want to be here legally, apply for a visa/citizenship/whatever.

Well she gamed the system until she got caught, what’s the big deal go home take your education and prosperity you gained here and try and change your home country to be more like the USA. Whats the big deal, her country should welcome her with open arms. If she robbed a bank and finally got caught did she think she could still keep the money?

What are we supposed to do let everyone in the world who wants to come here stay if they don’t get caught for a certain time period? We had one amnesty and it was a great failure with about 60% fraudulent grants of amnesty. Supposed to be less than one million and ended up around 3 million. (not counting those relatives they later immigrated)

She must be furious with her parents for doing this to her. They have ruined her life, I bet she never speaks to them again..

Irving, TX.

Hispanic or Latino of any race were 31.2% of the population.

It won’t be that different.

Not trying to gain any of your sympathy don't need it.. I guess I am a little more sympathetic since three mexican families on my block growing up in Irving were fine families, don't know their status, as kids we were not concerned, as my mother wasn't concerned when the mexicans came to pick cotton with her in the 1920s every fall in west Texas.
For you, that girl should be kicked out of the only country she has ever known and in which she has done nothing wrong.
She must pay for the sins of her parents.
