Boxer legislation says no to drilling off the west coast
Examiner.com ^ | 2/2/2011 | Joe Alfieri

In a stunning display of bad timing, not to say naiveté, California Senator Barbara (don’t call me ma’am) Boxer has introduced legislation to prevent offshore drilling along America’s west coast. With oil spiking at $102 a barrel as of this writing, the wheels falling off what passes for foreign policy in the Middle East, and gasoline prices at a two year high (see story), Boxer has announced the West Coast Ocean Protection Act. Joined by the rest of the west coast leftists, Senator Dianne Feinstein (D) of California, Senators Maria Cantwell (D) and Patty Murray (D) of Washington, and Senators Ron Wyden (D) and Jeff Merkley (you fill in the blank) of Oregon, the bill would prohibit from now until the end of time anything having to do with “oil or natural gas exploration, development, or production in any area of the outer Continental Shelf off the coast of the State of California, Oregon or Washington.” Boxer’s press release acknowledges that the Obama administration has no plans for anything of the sort on its calendar, but just in case… So as we brace for the nearly inevitable shutdown of the Suez Canal or war in the Middle East, and the resultant shock of $5 a gallon gas, rest assured that Senator Boxer is protecting us from “needlessly endanger(ing) irreplaceable natural resources and our vital coastal economies.” Those vital natural resources that seep up from the ocean floor —black globs of oil— could be used to revitalize the economy that the Senator claims to be so concerned about. But they’re to be placed off limits, if Boxer and company get their way. Unless of course, George Soros decides to revitalize his own personal economy.

How about not congress critters using fuel? No planes or limos - until the US adopts the Kyoto protocols.

I wonder who Senator Ma’am is planning to use to carry the water for her bill in the House. [snicker]

The Saudi Vichy Caucus.

They'll look good all lined up against the same wall.

Today is a good day to die.
I didn't say for whom.

My fellow Californian idiots just re-elected this nitwit to another six year term. They also seem perfectly happy to pay Governor Moonbeam’s extended taxes to shave some points off a budget deficit that could be entirely eliminated by the fees from new oil and gas leases if the state would ever shake off the Green deathgrip and get real.

I look at the moonbats opposition to anything with common sense as simply part of the landscape.. to be studied, understood with specificity and overcome.. just like an engineer would approach the problem of extracting something buried deep in the ground. Explosives and big drills work well.

And we wonder why Californication is circling the drain, with bright light like Senator Ma'm being reelected.

It seems to me that California, and for that matter, the federal government could make a fortune selling oil leases, then use that money to start paying down the debt.

I was watching a documentary last night on CNBC. Seems that Alberta Canada is booming, in fact has a labor shortage because of the oil sands mining. Something like that in the US would be a God send, and it isn't like these resources stop at the Canadian border. Just imagine the boost to the economy </fantasy>

As the Tea Party influence advances in DC I would hope that the absurd environmentalist-wacko impact that has so devastated this nation's economy and security will be reversed. America needs to be able to access its abundance of energy reserves, increase its oil refining capacity, build nuclear power facilities, etc., and stop using food for engine fuel.

Every single day enough oil naturally seeps out of the ocean floor off the coast of Santa Barbara to fuel Boxhead’s plane to D.C. — round trip.

President Palin has plans to make America 100% energy independent. Sorry, Babs, you will end up losing this fight.

What a concept! That would require common sense, in short supply here in la-la-land.

How about a surcharge to all states that do not allow drilling. To be paid to the states that do allow it.
