Honeyville Foods and the USDA
2/3/11

Posted on 02/03/2011 3:00:39 PM PST by Kartographer

I got this e-mail today from Honeyville Farms:
As many of you know we have been out of stock on our #10 cans of Powdered Whole Eggs and Egg Whites for about 3 months. This has been as a result of working with the USDA on plant and label approval with new stricter requirements with respect to eggs. We've endured numerous delays and setbacks throughout the process. About a week ago we had received approval to begin Production. We did so and even had product on UPS trailers ready to be picked up. We got a call from the USDA stating that they had put us through the wrong process and we would have to start over again. We had to pull all of the outbound orders and go back into a holding pattern. At this point we are moving through the process but have no idea when we'll be back in business with the canned eggs. It is a frustrating situation with one of our best sellers and we apologize for the delay. Just as soon as we have product ready to ship we will send out an email to all of our great Honeyville Customers. We appreciate your patience.

Luckily I am presently stocked up on powder eggs and egg whites so this isn't effecting me, but its a good example of how tedious and broken our Federal bureaucracy is become.

I purchase from Honeyville, too. I’d hate to see them go under because of some bureaucrat’s “mistakes.”

I have some questions:

Honeyville specializes in powdered eggs? Food for storage?

What do you use powdered eggs for?

Mainly I bake with them. The powdered egg whites I make omlets and scambled eggs for my wife.

Thanks for that link. I think I’m going to get some.

From that link I wound up watching a video of a sun oven. That is really something!

bttt...

There are other reports out today about delays from other suppliers. I’ve not had a problem with these folks before, and I do have a couple of cases of powdered eggs in my larder (along with six laying hens in the coop...) and I thought we ought to see if Honeyville has had any luck with USDA yet...

I haven’t seen an e-mail notice from them in some time....
