Ayn Rand was one of the great modern American authors.

Her books are great works.

And she also joins such great modern authors as George Orwell and Ray Bradbury who are among just a handful of truly noteworthy writers whose works transcend their art.

“The Fountainhead” was on TCM the other night. I had read the book way way back in the day, but had never seen the movie.

It’s held up surprisingly well although made in the 40s I think with Gary Cooper as the iconoclastic architech who refuses to change his architechtural ‘vision’ to go along with the crowd.

Of course, the movie isn’t about action or scenes but about the Rynd message.

I agree. Two fine performances by Cooper and O’Neal.

I think she’s a better philosopher than author. Atlas Shrugged is ponderous at times, especially Galt’s never ending speech. Nonetheless, it is a monumental and great work, and reading it was a life changing event for me.

I like the movie. Kinda weird.

The actress is the same woman from “The Day the Earth Stood Still”.

I remember reading someone that when asked about the meaning of the film, Cooper had no idea whatsoever.

I don’t think Cooper was one of us.

Just an actor.
