Evil Republicans Take Aim at “Sesame Street”
David Horowitz's NewsReal Blog ^ | February 14, 2011 | Calvin Freiburger

As we all know, the Republican Party is the single most evil organization in human history. Republicans hate the poor, hate the environment, hate teachers, hate foreigners, and generally hate joy and happiness in all its forms. And now the Daily Beast’s Samuel Jacobs says the GOP is poised to undertake their most heartless act yet: “kill Big Bird.”

Jacobs is citing a report in the New York Times which describes House Republicans’ latest batch of proposed budget cuts, meant to reduce federal spending by $100 billion. “Dozens of programs” are on the chopping block, including the Corporation for Public Broadcasting’s government funding.

The CPB, of course, isn't happy:

We understand the challenges to our economy as a result of increasing budget deficits, but the proposed elimination of funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) will not address this challenge in a meaningful way; it represents a disproportionate attack on public media. Further, elimination of CPB would impact millions of Americans who rely on public media for free, quality content that has a mission to educate, inform and inspire. This proposed action would directly result in cuts to the 1,300 public television and radio stations that provide this service; impact thousands of jobs in rural, suburban and urban communities throughout the country already reeling from a faltering economy; and eliminate a valued service - content that strengthens our civil society through children's and educational programming, lifelong learning for all Americans, and quality entertainment.

First things first: This wouldn’t destroy Sesame Street. For decades, Sesame Street has been a staple of kids’ TV...

Please Mr Consumer, don’t let them chop our $450.000 salaries! You know how many stations we’d have to shut down just to maintain our lifestyles???

Take Aim at NEA, DEA, Homeland Security, Am Track, EPA, Do away with Earned Income Tax credit, Slash free Morning and Lunch Programs so only the real Poor get it. Flat rate income tax no deductions then do away with IRS...

I hope they do aim squarely at "Sesame Street" and nuke it forever. It was nothing but a hodgepodge of commie multi-culturalism.

You can learn a lot more with the McGuffey Readers, still used by some Christian schools.

Once a govt-funded organization/program gets on a “mission”, watch out. Sesame Street is a very good show, with some multiculturalism and PC thrown in, but it is worth having, somewhere. NPR is very biased in the political reporting (for the most part) and so are many of the “Frontline” shows on CPB stations.

They question is whether the leftist propaganda is not poisonous enough to deflect from the good programming. However, a little poison is never a good thing.

Soros has enough money to fund a lot of leftist propaganda operations. Let him pick up the tab, not the American taxpayers.

Sesame Street absolutely sucks. But if they want to stay on the air so bad, take some of the millions they make on their stupid books, toys and other merchandise they sell. Don’t force the taxpayers to fund their nauseating brain dead indoctrination of children.

“mission to educate, inform and inspire”

“... mission to indoctrinate, mislead and misguide ...”

Big Bird makes a lot more money than I do, so he and all of his Muppet friends can fend for themselves, and support the rest of PBS in the process.

However, I do love Antiques Roadshow and History Detectives and Secrets of the Dead and Austin City Limits. Maybe these shows can pay for themselves.

They're at least as good as what you find on other cable channels. They ought to find a good paying audience. Let them compete like anybody else.

If there is such demand for Sesame Street, it will find a home on one of the many, many commercial children’s channels.

They trot this crap out every time a republican mentions budget cutting, because they know that some conservatives, especially older ones, like the shows on PBS, and they believe they can use it as a wedge. “See not all gubmint spending is bad” is their common cry.
I’ll be the first to admit that I watch some of the shows on PBS, but I believe they should stand commercially on thier own feet. Most of them would based on the sponsors at the beginning of each show.
The funniest thing I saw this week was actually on PBS. It was a couple of actors, and pinheads (redundant) stating on camera that they got their news from Public Broadcasting, because it was the only place they knew to be “fair”. I nearly spit Pepsi across the room.
