Sweet Revenge for Palin ["...union bosses...are acting like thugs..."]
Slate ^ | March 11, 2011 | David Weigel, JournOLister

Eric Kleefeld catches Sarah Palin, with some amount of relish, talking about the responsibility of union leaders to tell their supporters to chill the hell out.

"These union bosses that are acting like thugs, as they are leading some of their good union members down a road that will ultimately result in, unfortunately, somebody getting hurt, if you believe the death threats that are being received by those who just happen to support amending some collective bargaining privileges of state unions. Well, it is these unions bosses' responsibility to turn down the rhetoric and start getting truth out there, so that nobody gets hurt."

Kleefeld focuses on the irony of Palin, she of the target map and "retreat, don't reload," saying this. I hope that's not the lesson liberals are taking for this. She provides no evidence for "union bosses acting like thugs," but there has been rhetoric from elected Democrats about Wisconsin that's been just as heated as anything Palin, Bachmann, et al ever said. I'm not interested in comparing one random person's sign to another random person's sign. I'm just saying, Democrats framed this battle in life-or-death terms just like Republicans framed the battle over health care in life-or-death terms.

If there was easy access to footage of the 60-hour Assembly debate over the budget repair bill, I'd point to that. But if some enterprising conservative blogger wants to dig, he can find plenty of rhetoric that warned of dire consequences if the bill passed. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio., said in a Senate floor speech that Hitler, Stalin and Mubarak had all been anti-union, too -- I think there's an implication there.....

They’ve tried every way possible to marginalize, ridicule and diminish her. They’ve even got “conservatives” (mainly the intellectual elites at National Review, the GOP power structure pseudocons) parroting their points, and obviously the RINO-pseudo-pseudocons as well.

Still can’t silence her. She resonates with the real people that aren’t smart enough to matter in their book.

They won’t call it “flyover country” after this election.

How about $7 1/2M to clean the marble inside the Capitol as evidence? She did mention death threats. Yeah, scoping a district is no different than promising to KILL legislators and their families. The people who marched on Madison are the scum of the earth. Everyone involved in the hateful, raucous behavior should be fired. Bob

The union/thug label should be no surprise when you understand that the connection between unions and organized crime is not a distant one.

Acting? They ARE thugs! Well, I guess that's why they're acting like 'em.

LOVE YA SARAH!

I get so tired of the echo chamber of educated idiots who couldn’t jack a car up and change a tire to save their souls.

Let alone do what real people do to get by.

Wow. The comments following are fascinating.

The first is a very well-spoken post about how people don't trust the media anymore because it has become a blatantly partisan public relations arm of a politcal party and ambition.

The rest of the comments, a handful, are short. One thinks it's all so boring, same ol' same ol'. Two of them fire back that hey, it was the OTHER side that brought guns and shot! (meaning they apparently believe that a Palin fan shot the woman in Arizona.) *sigh* They pretty much all deny that any thuggish behavior has been portrayed by the liberals, and their take means they haven't been paying attention. They think Fox news is the propaganda arm of the Republican party. Honestly.

Very dim bulbs, but man, that first post in the comments -- read it and read truth. Intersting to see it at Slate, and to see the proud stupidty of the commenters. Fortunately, they read like folks who probably rarely actually vote. Which is good.

They don't seem right bright.
