You've seen pictures of rebels riding Soviet ZPU-4 14.5MM type Anti-Aircraft Guns like cowboys. It reminds you of the crazed twin .50 caliber gunner in "Waterworld." Kinda “shoots a hole” in the “big sky, small bullet” theory. When I was in the Army, they taught us to fire a point in the sky though which you thought the plane would fly, rather than try to continuously lead it. I knew a guy who “duelled” an ME-109 with a 0.50 cal and was totally fustrated by the his lack of success. The 109 took big lazy looping turns and he couldn’t but a round on it.
To bad we can’t get these folks some shouulder fire missiles.
Love to see more of these booted out of the sky.

I was in the 82nd’s air defense battalion. We give classes at the ranges in shooting at aircraft. We had radio controlled styrofoam airplanes that would fly back and forth in front of a hundred guys with M-16’s, M-60’ MG’s. They’d hardly ever get hit. Five, or more passes.
I doubt the gunner hit the jet. He said he only had one gun working and he was untrained.
Bingo. Anyone that thinks all these asshats are going to magically turn into peace loving responsible friends of the world is delusional. There are hard core cretins behind this sudden chaos in the middle east, and it isn't going to bode well for Western Civilization.

Aside from not having a clue of who they would be helping, I think a lot of folks who want to rush right in and assist the Libyan rebels forget that Libya was the state sponsor of the attack that brought down Pan Am 103 (and ultimately the airline itself), killing 270 innocent people including 189 American citizens. Is there any doubt that some of the same people who planned and arranged this bombing were dancing in the streets when that happened and are the same people now crying for America's help? Screw Libya. Until Muslims world wide demonstrate a willingness to coexist peacefully the civilized western nations owe them nothing. It's their war. Let them fight it to the best of their ability. Let them spill their blood and spend their treasure. It's not worth one drop of American blood or one penny from our bankrupt Treasury to lend assistance to Muslim thugs in Libya.
Give them Stingers? Do that and they’ll be out in the Gulf of Sidra extorting money not to shoot down civilian airliners.

I think this is a propaganda clip and the explosion on the tape was ordinance delivered from the plane.
Arabs are inveterate thieves, they can’t help themselves.
Besides, neither the Libyan or the Syrian ejected.
Hmmm, maybe bad maintenance, and/or disabling of the
ejector mechanism? One of the other videos has the wreckage
of a plane from which the pilot ejected after refusing to attack civilians. Maybe the safety pins were tack-welded in place?
Maybe so, but who exactly are "these guys"? How do we know they aren't more radical that Daffy? Seems well established that the so-called "Muslim Brotherhood" are the ones stirring up all the unrest across the region and it's well known that they don't play nice. What gives us the right to interfere in a sovereign nation's civil war anyway? Not to mention the fact that we don't have the money to spend. Libya certainly deserves a level 5 ass whoopin' courtesy of the USA for their role in Pan Am 103, but it seems a little late to be going to that party.....

Twice a year half the battalion would go to Ft. Bliss, Tx, with their radar/optic 20mm Gatling guns. They’d line up seven or so, and a Korea era jet would fly parallel, towing on a LONG steel cable a banner that had sensors in it such that when a round went through it, it would know.
Back and forth went the jet with it’s banner. The gunners optically tracking it, and at the right moment, hitting a trigger which released control of the gun to the firing radar/computer. Seven guns, thousands of rounds each pass.
Hardly ever hit the banner.
Always lots of head scratching, calibrating, fiddling. I just read and slept in my medic jeep.
