WASHINGTON -- The Obama administration has conducted informal discussions with groups from both ends of the gun-policy spectrum, including law enforcement and gun-rights organizations, and is set to hold formal meetings as early as this week in an effort to chart out a set of new firearms policies, administration officials say.

Spearheaded by the Department of Justice, the talks were described by one individual involved in the discussions as a “feeling-out process.” With more official meetings set to begin shortly, they provide the clearest indication to date that the White House is readying a response to the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.) and 19 others at Tucson in early January.

“As the president said, we should focus on sound, effective steps that will keep guns out of the hands of the criminals, fugitives, people with serious mental illness, and others who have no business possessing a gun and who are prohibited by laws on the books from owning a gun,” Justice Department spokesman Matthew Miller said. “We will be meeting with stakeholders on all sides of the issue to discuss how we can find sensible, intelligent ways to make the country safer.”

The goal is to finalize a set of policy changes, including, perhaps, legislation that could pass through a Congress hostile to abridgments of Second Amendment rights. The last serious bite at the apple occurred following the shootings at Virginia Tech in April 2007.

In a Sunday op-ed for the Arizona Daily Star, President Barack Obama called for a three-pronged approach: enforcing the laws already on the books, including the National Instant Criminal Background Check System; pushing for greater state-to-state coordination; and expediting background checks and the release of relevant data.

“It was a promising sign that the president understands that 86 percent of the public, including around 80 percent of gun owners, think that a simple background check for every purchase includes next to zero burden for law-abiding citizens and can save countless live,” said Mark Glaze, the executive director of the coalition of Mayors Against Illegal Guns (MAIG).

The contours laid out in the op-ed are similar to the plan currently being pushed by MAIG and Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.). Schumer, who has also been in touch with DOJ officials, held a press conference with New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg several weeks ago announcing plans to beef up the national background-check system, including eliminating a loophole that allows individuals to buy firearms at gun shows without submitting to a background check.

Though official talks have not yet begun, the Obama administration is expected to aim mostly at such low-hanging fruit, leaving issues like the legality of the high-capacity magazine -- which allows even pistols to fire more than 30 shots without reloading, and was used in the Tucson shootings in January -- to remain unaddressed for the time being. The principal debate, then, will likely center around the application of background-check standards to private dealers.

“They have been meeting with us and also with law enforcement groups and industry,” one gun-control advocate said of the administration. “This is what the White House does when they want to put a serious legislative apparatus together ... The game now becomes effectively demonstrating, in a way that is meaningful, what we know is the overwhelming support for universal background checks.”

Gun policy is already set beyond 0's authority to change:

Amendment II
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

“and others who have no business possessing a gun and who are prohibited by laws on the books from owning a gun”

Since when did libs care about what the laws state?

They ignore laws at will, like those detiling immigration and border security.
But, if Kagan, Sotomayor, and other liberal idiots have their way there would be “No legal need to own a gun”.
See where this is heading?
What morons.

The Arizona shooter was labeled 'unqualified' ('undesirable') at the Military Entrance Processing Station in Phoenix when he attempted to enlist in armed forces. President Clinton instructed his Justice Department to prevent adding enlistees who are rejected during the entrance process to a database which would have flagged Gerald Loughner to the NICS 'National Instant Check System' and kept him from purchasing a firearm.

President Obama is free to reverse that policy the moment he sees fit to do so.

The community college that Loughner attended was guided by a policy in place to refer troubled students to mental health professionals. But after multiple run-ins with faculty and staff including six documented police reports outlining Loughner's threatening behavior, not a thing was ever done about it. They just gave Loughner his walking papers and said he couldn't return unless he saw a shrink.

Not a person who knew him, encountered him, instructed him, or had heard of his dangerous behavior was the least bit surprised that Loughner did what he's now in custody for.

... and now President Obama thinks it's time to talk about how many bullets can fit in a magazine.

Honestly, what really is there to talk about, Mr. President? Fact is that liberals refuse to talk about how obviously crazy people need to be thrown into a booby hatch to prevent them from harming the rest of us, because liberals are justifiably afraid of ending up on the 'crazy person' list.

Yes. Closing the so-called "gun show" loophole, that permits unsupervised transfer of firearms between citizen/residents. The idea being to obtain a back-door registry, for future confiscation, a generation or two in the future.

If the Republicans go along with this they deserve to loose in 2012, this is nothing but the next step in universal gun registration which will then lead eventually to gun confiscation. I expect the O to try doing this using an executive order if he can’t get congress to go along.

Based on what fraudulent poll data?

Consider the source – sounds like Prime Grade A Bull Cookies!!

which allows even pistols to fire more than 30 shots without reloading,

Make no mistake, that’s the number they like to toss out but in reality they want to reduce that to 10 rounds, then 5 then..

Here is their operational outline:

Step 1: All Transactions have to go through the Federal system
Step 2: All Transactions are recorded and a registration system initialized.
Step 3: All guns are banned and confiscated.

Each step will have to be preceded by a Crisis to get at least some on board for the next incremental and “Commonsense” step in the process.

We did, but it’s not reaching discovery in any court proceeding with Zero’s top law firms in the way.

Zero was born at Coast Provincial General Hospital in Mombasa, modern day Kenya. He has admitted such as Senator and previously; we have witnesses with first hand knowledge with signed affadavits presented in court. Bet on it.

What evidence?

A) The registered copy of Zero’s birth certificate, Mombasa, Kenya:

http://jdlong.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/possiblebhokenyanbirthcertificate1.jpg

Dated Feb 17, 1964. Why is the date significant?

It fits in with the time line for the Obama Sr./Stanley Ann Dunham divorce proceedings from Jan 20-March 20, 1964. The judge must know who parents are before he awards child support/custody and that is disclosed by a birth certificate. It is required by Hawaiian law, like many jurisdictions dealing with this matter.

Just so happens these divorce papers skip page 11 with a missing page in back, which would have been said birth certificate:

http://www.scribd.com/doc/18130289/Obama-1964-Divorce-Papers-13-Pages-Missing-Pg-11

Scrubbed from the record. Barry’s minions have been busy.

This registered birth certificate copy has been presented in court under oath. It has real stamps and signatures of real people. In addition we have excellent PROVENANCE of it being filed and requested in a previous court proceeding LONG BEFORE THE ISSUE OF OBAMA’S NATURAL BORN CITIZENSHIP.

There is no provenance of any document presented by Obama in court or otherwise. No birth certificate; not even his online short form has been filed with evidentiary certificate under oath in any court proceeding. Which is because it’s a forgery.

There’s another one: the one collected by Smith.

I think it’s possible that both the Smith BC and this one you’ve posted are valid.

Ultimatelly, a court (other than the court of public opinion) needs to rule on Obama’s eligibility.

Last week received a panic call from the NRA. First a lady operator to see if I’m home, than I was played a recorded message from Wayne LaPierre. Then a guy from sales came on the line: “Sir, do you believe the government is responsible for your safety and security?”

“No.”

“Good either do we...” Then went on to talk about Andrew Traver, up for possible confirmation hearings as head of ATF...”Sir, do you know about Andrew Traver’s record?”

“Yeah I know Traver and where he lives (Naperville, IL).”

Slight pause, then operator resumes with attorney general Holder the bigot with legislation on blacklisting “terrorists” from every owning a firearm.

Stated I’ve no money for the NRA, they make compromises where there shouldn’t be any. Plus spent five grand on munitions pre-2008 onwards so no money to give :^)~

If the Kenyan klown gets in 2012, conflict inevitable at that point. Funds will be spent accordingly.

I’ve no doubt gun ownership will be ruled unconstitutional eventually. The Supreme Court barely passed the McDonald v. Chicago decision which should have been cut and dry for freedom.

The first thing that will come out of this is a demand that EVERYTHING must be registered. They can't control private sales any other way.

If they get registration the excuses to confiscate guns will be easy to manufacture.

Any hint that 0 is “starting talks” should send sales through the roof, providing more economic stimulation than any other policy from this (mis)Administration.
