NRA Refuses to Meet with Obama

TELLS PRESIDENT: IF YOU BELIEVE IN SECOND AMENDMENT RIGHTS; LOSE THE “LIP SERVICE” AND DEMONSTRATE IT

Following the Tucson shooting, Barrack Obama called on us to put aside “stale political debates” and begin a “a new discussion” on ways to better enforce and “strengthen” America’s gun laws.

Pardon my skepticism, but when I hear words like “stale political debates” and “strengthen (existing) laws” from this president, it gets my attention; Obama has demonstrated his disdain for “stale” American values and principles so many times, I don’t trust anything that sounds remotely like “hope and change” any more.

When Justice Department officials met with gun control advocates Tuesday to begin Obama’s “new discussion,” there was a noticeable absence from the table: The NRA. Don’t misunderstand me; they were invited. Their RSVP? “Thanks, but no thanks.”

In an op-ed in Sunday’s Arizona Star, Obama wrote:

“Every single day, America is robbed of more futures.” (People are being killed with hand guns and it’s the guns’ fault.) “It has awful consequences for our society. And as a society, we have a responsibility to do everything we can to put a stop to it.” (We gotta do everything we can to take away these guns.) “Now, like the majority of Americans, I believe that the Second Amendment guarantees an individual right to bear arms. (We gotta find a way to get around the Constitution.) “And the courts have settled that as the law of the land.” (We need more leftist judges who will legislate from the bench. If that doesn’t work, we’ll do our best to change the laws.) “However, I believe that if common sense prevails, we can get beyond wedge issues and stale political debates to find a sensible, intelligent way to make the United States of America a safer, stronger place.” (If I really work at it, I can circumvent the Constitution, pack the courts and ignore the laws; just like I’m trying to do with same-sex marriages.)

Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre responded directly to the president in an open letter:

“To focus a national dialogue on guns — and not criminals or mental health issues — misses the point entirely. If you do in fact believe the Second Amendment guarantees an individual right, we suggest you demonstrate that in your policies and those of your Administration, which you have not done to-date. Simply saying that you support the right to keep and bear arms is mere lip service if not put into action.”

Wise up Wayne. I agree with everything you said, but I have a bone to pick regarding your “mere lip service” comment; you obviously missed my post on Obama Followership and the quote from Doug Schoen, respected Democratic Strategist:

Obama’s strategy is to “keep your distance, avoid direct engagement, say most of the right things most of the time, and hope for resolution through sources other than your own.”

As is the case with illegal immigration, we should start with the enforcement of existing laws:

The National Instant Criminal Background Check System is intended to stop the wrong people from getting their hands on guns. This bipartisan effort has yet to be fully implemented. It relies on data supplied by the states, which is often incomplete and not always accurate.

Make the existing system faster. The technology exists; providing instant, accurate, comprehensive background checks to sellers who want to make sure they don’t sell guns to criminals deserves a big Charlie Sheen “DUH.”

Clearly, there is more to be done to to protect Americans from gun violence. Unfortunately, as with illegal immigration, Obama’s answer is more “lip service,” hearings, and sleight-of-hand attempts to change or circumvent existing laws.

That pesky Constitution sure plays hell with Progressivism, doesn’t it?

I quite agree -- constitutional carry / reciprocity.

Waiting for the NRA-bashers to repeat whatever GOA tells them.

Repeal NFA 1934

Repeal GCA 1968

Eliminate all unconstitutional federal agencies with their "standing armies" of minions.

Ditto from a proud NRA member.

Repeal NFA 1934

Repeal GCA 1968

Bingo!

Only after these are repealed, can we start to even think the 2A is being upheld.

There is no point in meeting with Obama, he isn't going to deal in good faith.

We will be treated to a dog and pony show pretending to seek consensus and Obama will then do whatever he Damned well wants to do.

Hopefully the NRA realizes that their only role in this was to be a stage prop.

“strengthen” America’s gun laws

For crying out loud, it is the Second Amendment - how much stronger can it get?

The NRA did the right thing and did not subject themselves to an untrustworthy, clearly anti-gun President.

No more negotiating, no more compromise with this President or with members of his party!

In the details, we see what Obama REALLY wants: to ban all private sales of firearms, and to prevent families from passing down firearms without going through a licensed dealer. This is has been the agenda of the Left since at least 1968 (when the Gun Control Act was signed by the statist Lyndon B. Johnson).

My answer to that is NO. When private sales and the bequeathing of firearms are banned, the right to own and carry arms is fully restricted, because the government can shut down legal ownership at any time.

This is a hill to stand and die on. This MUST NOT BE ALLOWED at all costs, even the cost of life.

Of all the laws in this country, there is not likely any laws more abided to as those referring to 2nd amendment issues.

There are plenty of laws on the books that are bent, twisted, and thoroughly unconstitutional.

Let's see Obama come out of his cloud and deal with those, golf later.
