Springtime in an English garden – “To cultivate a garden is to walk with God”

It is remarkable that since Nymans Garden was created in 1890 it has seen only three Head Gardeners: James Comber from 1895-1953; Cecil Nice, who began working at Nymans in 1924 and succeeded James Comber as Head Gardener in 1953; and currently David Masters, who took over when Cecil retired in 1980.

Who cannot envy those three men for as we walked around those beautiful grounds we felt certain that Christian Bovee was right when he said “to cultivate a garden is to walk with God”

The kiss of the Sun for pardon

The song of the birds for mirth

One's closer to God in a garden

Than any place else on earth.

While going through a difficult period this fall I was in no mood to plant the bulbs I had purchased. At the urging of my friend to “just get out there and plant them” I put them in the ground. I’m so very happy I did because they are blooming!

I feel hopeful today.

I have synthetic turf, so I guess I walk with Xenu.

I come to the garden alone
While the dew is still on the roses
And the voice I hear falling on my ear
The Son of God discloses.

And He walks with me, and He talks with me,
And He tells me I am His own;
And the joy we share as we tarry there,
None other has ever known.

And I must say England has been looking decidedly lovely this past few days.

I am of the firmest conviction that on a sunny spring day, there is no country that can parallel it’s beauty.

Zero should have something like that installed in the Oval Office, complete with a few cups, to practice his short game.

Me too. The general extreme scarcity of sunny spring days adds to the beauty too, by providing a very obvious contrast :)
