Let me first put it out there that, unlike some of my fellow conservatives/libertarians, I dont believe unions are inherently bad, or at least the larger labor movement isnt. In the past, it was a force for good, producing some much needed reforms at a time when some companies were beyond corrupt.
However, I also believe that absolute power corrupts absolutely, and many, if not most, unions have gained absolute power wherever they set up shop.
Take Philadelphia, for example, where the Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America is trying to give a business a bad name. Not because they make their employees work backbreaking long hours. Not even because they wont negotiate better wages or benefits. No, its because their landlord wont hire from within their union to do construction work on the building.
Apparently, you hire only union workers in Philly or face the consequences.

Philly unions were worse than NY City.
Then I must not understand your definition of capitalism. Or, maybe, your definition of communism.

I usually play it safe by not giving my money to either Islamists or Communists — and I will not, even when they try to extort it from me as they do the union membership. Nobody ever put a gun to a union members head and said “pick this career!”, “live in this state!”, or “do this job!”. Union members FUND THE COMMUNIST MOVEMENT IN AMERICA and have done so since unions began. This is not new. Any union member whose union leadership uses union funds to advance communism (i.e., most unions) contributes to the overthrow of the U.S. government as founded and seeks its replacement with communist totalitarianism either WILLINGLY or through UNFATHOMABLE (willful) IGNORANCE.
Absolutely right! The Communists were involved in the union movement from the very beginning. What do the mafia, the unions and the communists have in common? Despite what they say is their reason d'etre, those they claim to be supporting get little but the ones at the top live like kings.
The same is true of the civil rights movement, the feminists movement and now the push for homosexual rights. The Left is behind it all.
To me Capitalism is the manipulation of money. Simply making money with money. It can be good or bad.
Free enterprise is the free bartering of goods and services. Money is the medium of exchange for those goods and services.
I learned that in 1980, when I had to join a union in order to get a particular job. Actually, I knew it in 1976 when I was working part time in a car wash, paying union dues even though I wasn’t represented. Seems the teamsters had some leverage in the industry in those days.
Yes. And only a fool would open a business in the city.
Yeah, back when people were forced to work for companies.
Unions are like being in an abusive relationship.
That's the only thing on this site than anyone thinks about.
Philadelphia is real proud of their new MLS team, the Union.
Which can't even bring itself to play in the Dem controlled city.
They did get the suckers (taxpayers) to build them a stadium though.
One I knew a little better...very nice...BUT....best stay away. They were like the Mafia in this Town which IS/WAS a Mafia Town.
