John Bolton in Des Moines Swats President Obama’s Middle East Policy as “Chaotic.”
Caffeinated Thoughts ^ | March 26, 2011 | Shane Vander Hart

Former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton spoke at Congressman Steve King’s Conservative Principles PAC Conference in Des Moines, IA.

“National security should be an important in 2012.” He said that our national security and foreign policy should be a tangible issues for voters in 2012 as it impact our independence, freedom, our peace and security.

Blasting Obama he said he wasn’t qualified to be president when he was elected and he noted that he still isn’t elected. He said he said national security “doesn’t get him up in the morning.” He said he doesn’t see the world as a very threatening place.” He notes that Obama is an example of multilateralism at its fullest. He wants to cede sovereignty over to international agencies, “he is fascinated by international law.”

He said “legitimacy for the United States comes from ourselves.” Bolton notes that the U.S. Constitution is our highest authority, not an international body like the U.N. Security Council. He said that President Obama is our first “post-American” President and doesn’t understand American exceptionalism. “If everybody is exceptional, nobody is.”

“Protection for the United States will not be found in the U.N. Security Council,” Bolton said in critiquing multilateralism. He said we can best defend ourselves by making sure our defense is adequately funded. He’s concerned by cuts that the Obama Administration is making, and pointed out that he could find numerous domestic programs to cut to find money for defense.

Criticizing Obama’s Libya policy, Bolton said he is concerned that if Mummar Gaddafi is not removed that he could return to international terrorism. He said that if Obama acted earlier the rebels could have possibly removed him by now. He said the rest of his Middle East policy is “chaotic.” He was confused in Egypt, Bolton said, and has no tangible strategy for Iran. He said that instability in the Middle East impacts peace in Israel.

He said we need to have a sustained discussion about the failure of Obama’s foreign policy as we approach 2012.

I would define his approach to foreign policy as political onanism.

“Chaotic” is an understatement. “carterian” is more accurate.

I agree with him, but not on this. Cutting is needed urgently. No time to retrench ourselves behind our pet programs. Defense may be necessary, but it’s still run by the government. The legitimacy of its ulitmate goal (i.e. the preservation of the Republic and the citizens thereof) does not render it efficient.

Bolton played a role in goading Obama into this quagmire. The GOP should only nominate who opposed this intervention and John “Jack Ripper” Bolton does not qualify.

Bolton said he is concerned that if Mummar Gaddafi is not removed that he could return to international terrorism.

After giving it up and getting reassurances that we were going to let the past go and move on then getting attacked what would anyone expect?

He said that if Obama acted earlier the rebels could have possibly removed him by now.

The odds would have been better but it's still stupid to make a bet on the success of an unknown quantity such as the Libyan "rebels" to achieve goals for you. If you want somebody dead then kill them yourself.

"“If everybody is exceptional, nobody is.”

Didn't he get that line from "The Incredibles?"

"He said that President Obama is our first “post-American” President..."

I would have called him "Our first un-American President" - and I'd have been more correct.

I no longer am interested in having a lawyer as a President unless they have a career based upon DEFENDING our Constitution and not making up the rules as they go along. Eric Holder has completely destroyed our DOJ and made it a mockery of justice.

Uhbama does not have the conviction a President needs to ensure a good defense structure and has never understood the importance of peace through strength.

Bolton is right about uhbama and our press did our nation a terrible and scary disservice when in their enthusiasm to bring forth the first black President, they ignored all of the signs of WHY this man was not prepared to lead.

For example, no main stream press called in to question the friends this man kept and the counsel he sought. All of uhbama's associations stink. Even his minister hates America. Really badly. And the secrecy surrounding major events in a young man's life is astounding.

Bolton is a man who I completely trust with our national security. He has worked in the cesspool and the UN and understands EXACTLY why we can never, at least not in to world we live in today, entrust our future security to a council of foreigners.

If we are to keep our democratic republic, we are going to have to call out the members of the dem party who have turned it into a party that upholds just about everything that will completely destroy our rule of law, our moral bearing and our desire to be voluntarily charitable and a force for good in the world.

You cannot force charity. But you can tax a nation to death. Thanks to God, we have people in power now who understand this. Hopefully GOOD STEWARDS of our money are regaining power and will lift us up off our knees and help return us to the point where we all once again feel hope for the economic future of our nation and TRUST in our leadership.

For some twisted reason, it is almost as if, for those on the left, patriotism is a bad word. That can only happen when you do not like your country.

I have said this before but it is worth repeating to your liberal colleagues. Obama is like that son-in-law, brother in law, that fooled most of the family except that one person. That person warned the family and then was ostracized for “trying to cause trouble”. Then he goes crazy and everyone knows you’re right, but you remain ostracized because they don’t want to lose face.

We need to create a way for the left to admit they are wrong without losing face in order for them to get on with running him out of office.

I believe the rebels are being supported by the al Qaeda who are working with Iran. The rebels should not be ones we should like. However, we must deal with who is the worse evil. I believe Mummar Gaddafi is a worse evil and should be removed. The Libyan rebels should be able to do that with the right help.

When the al Qaeda tries to organize the political system under their control, there should be enough time to deal with them. I say, support the rebels in Iran and you will have crushed the head of the snake.

Very true. This means we will have to go in and occupy as we did Iraq.

We could have avoided the whole thing by not getting involved in the first place.

I beg to differ with your conclusion that Gadaffi is more evil than Al Qaeda. But even if true (and it's not) Al Qaeda is not only evil but we are presently at war with them because they are directly a threat to our national security (sept 11th - to give you one of many examples).

That being said, at this point in the game (now that we've already started bombing) we need to finish this through which means topple Gadaffi and occupy Libya as we did Iraq.

Prediction: Watch for protests to increase in pakistan after Al Qaeda sees us stuck in Libya. It's probably the plan. These people are crazy but they're far from stupid.

Keep an eye on Pakistan while we're busy inside Libya

Thanks for the alert on Pakistan. I believe Osama bin Laden is either in Pakistan or in Iran. Your believe that Al Qaeda is a worse evil than Mummar Gaddafi may be right. I think both are equally bad. It’s just the timing on how to defeat both of them. I think the Al Qaeda will become as mired down in Libya as we were in Iraq. They should be easy pickings when the time is right. I hope by that time, the revolution picks back up in Iran. They want their democracy there too.

I think ‘The Incredibles’ got that idea from ‘The Foutainhead.’ I finished reading it last night, and I thought of the line you mentioned as I was reading certain parts of the book.

My opinion has not changed since the last Presidential election....NATIONAL SECURITY first and foremost!!! We won’t have a country if our national security is last on the list.
