The Trump Effect on Birtherism (Dave compares birthers to truthers, Trump to Ron Paul)
Slate ^ | April 1, 2011 | David Weigel

Posted on 04/01/2011 12:12:14 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Chris Barron, chairman of GOProud, writes at length about Donald Trump's newfound obsession with Barack Obama's citizenship. You'll recall that GOProud was at least partly responsible for Trump's buzzy appearance at CPAC; the tycoon/pundit/punchline's slow descent into birtherism had been raising questions about the gay group.

"Let me be 100% clear – I am not a birther. I have never said I don’t believe Barack Obama was born in this country. Quite honestly, I haven’t spent much time worrying about or thinking about this issue, because I just don’t care about it. But there are a lot of issues that I don’t particularly care about that lots of other people do (take soccer for instance, for whatever reasons billions of people around the globe love it, I couldn’t give a rats ass about it).

On the question of Barack Obama’s birth certificate, while its not an issue I care about, clearly there are large segments of the population – and the Republican primary electorate in particular – that do care about this issue. Just because I don’t care about the issue or just because the press has decided that the issue is ‘off limits’ doesn’t mean that a potential Presidential candidate can’t legitimately raise questions about the issue.

I do believe that Mr. Trump’s approach to this issue, like his approach to almost every issue he has spoken on, has been a “common sense” approach. If there are those who question President Obama’s birthplace, then why not just produce the birth certificate (not the certificate of live birth – there is a difference) and be done with it? To me, that sounds pretty common sense."

I suspected that sodomites would see Trump as a friendly candidate...

Maybe, maybe not. They probably don’t like his haircut.

That said, I don’t care if a guy dressed like Dorothy, had nipple clamps, and a whole collection of Barbra Streisand CDs; if he could fight muzzies, balance the budget, cut government, cut taxes, and improve our standing in the world, I’d vote for him.

He’s really a Democrat, but this whole “birther” thing was started by Democrats like Phillip Berg.

Shouldn't that just make you a tad suspicious of it?Could it be that maybe, just maybe Obama is intentionally withholding his long-form BC to divide his opposition and make Republicans look crazy?

Remember “Willie Horton”, the first one to use it on Dukakis was none other than Al Gore.

That was long before Mr. Obama won the election. Hillary supporters started the whole thing to get back at him for the way he and his people treated her. Unless Barry is a lot smarter than I think he is, he couldn’t have planned for that.

I believe Obama was born in this country, I just think there’s something on his birth certificate he doesn’t want the rest of the country to know.

Why has Trump latched onto the BC issue, rather than the more cut-and-dried ‘father wasn’t a US citizen’ argument? Curious.

Probably because the general public understands document fraud better than they understand natural law.

Yes. We do know a few things.

  1. In two days, Trump has produced two corroborating birth documents, while Obama has only produced a jpg of an alleged 2007 birth abstract that has not been corroborated nor authenticated.
  2. Obama was listed in another country as its citizen with the last of his father (by adoption) or stepfather. Adoption records may exist that he doesn't want released. His original records may be completely different than his alleged 2007 COLB.
  3. A 2007 birth abstract is not an ORIGINAL birth certificate (unless no certificate was ever issued before that). Obama wrote about a birth certificate in 1995, but has never shown that birth certificate.

It's time for the Obama apologists and faithers to quit making excuses. Let's see an original, doctor-signed ... LEGAL birth certificate like the long-form that Trump showed.

The birth certificate issue is important only if the Constitution is important. Repubs and Dems on the Senate Judiciary Committee trying to vet McCain and Obama decided the Constitution didn’t matter.

What’s your point? Usurpation of a Republic is an issue ALL political parties can oppose! Right?

After 3 years of this, I’m not feeling crazy. I’m feeling pleased that we are about to tip the scales and force the powers that be to address the issue. If I am wrong, then it’s time to dig in our heals and keep plowing ahead til we do. I am a birther.

If they’re right-thinking Americans. There aren’t too many of those left in the Democratic Party, especially at the upper levels.

We need to ask Donald Trump to confront the RNC and tell the RNC to address the issue of Obama's eligibility and birth certificate.

If the RNC does not address the issue, and runs away from it, then ? donors should stop giving their money to the RNC.

YOU HEAR THAT Donald Trump ? force the RNC to address the issue.
