Phoenix under a new kind of invasion - *legal* welfare recipients
4.20.2011 | Vanity

Phoenix area FReepers, I am sure you must have noticed by now. We are under a new kind of invasion -- from welfare recipients of the *legal* kind.

They are pouring out of projects and ghettos across the country and moving straight to Phoenix. As little as two years ago, spotting them anywhere outside of a few select rundown neighborhoods used to be a thing of curiosity. Now they are everywhere, invading pristine neighborhoods of the East Valley - from Tempe to Mesa to Gilbert and Chandler. I see them in grocery stores, in malls, on the streets, at city bus stands.. everywhere, and there is no mistaking. The gangstas/thug/feral type males and young obese single mothers with multiple children in tow pushing grocery carts overflowing with unhealthy foods. This is not a sight we are used to seeing in Phoenix, at least not in the middle class suburbs. If it continues at the present rate, expect the demographic of Phoenix to change very rapidly possibly turning into a Cleveland or Detroit of the Southwest. Phoenix area FReepers, if you have noticed and if you know what I am talking about, please acknowledge.

I have some theories as to why this could be happening. One is the vacuum created by the exodus of illegal welfare recipients has created room for -legal- welfare recipients to move in. Locusts will always swarm toward fresh pastures after exhausting and destroying their current. The other possibility is there could be some kind of a federal push going on to relocate minorities to the southwest (and possibly turning them into swing states). I don't think this is happening without some kind of incentive. I mean when you are a project dweller looking to move out of the projects in some east coast city, moving cross country to a conservative desert city that doesn't exactly have the reputation for being friendly to ethnic people (aka illegals) isn't the first place that comes to mind. I have also read that a number of major projects are being torn down in the east and midwest and section 8 vouchers are being handed out along with relocation assistance. So why Arizona ? Not sure, but the fact that we have a glut of foreclosed homes and vacant apartments in once pristine neighborhoods may have something to do with it.

now, that, I would believe...I was watching some hbo show 'weeds' back before the election and these two guy characters were down at the border trying to "help" illegals - one asked 'where you going?' to an illegal who replied, "ohio". Don't know why, but it just struck me as odd -I'd expected him to say, texas, california, nevada, arizona, florida, etc, but Ohio? yeah, and he had a ride, too!

I was thinking of relocating to the Phoenix area because of the wide selection of very cheap houses for sale. In particular, I am considering Glendale. I also read that Bristol Palin had recently bought a house in Phoenix. Maybe I should reconsider. No point in living someplace if it's turning into another Detroit.

Very interesting observation, and astute. Sounds like a repeat of a pattern we're watched through maturity here in North Carolina. The swarm of "exotics" are almost an authentic Americorp, a non-performing tribe of federal employees being hustled about, controlled largely through manufactured uncertainty.

More than a little curious whether this is an authentic development of central planners!

I would rather have Detroit than the Tijuana North I work and live in called L.A. In AZ, at least you can carry a gun, not have a moonbat for a governor and not bump into fags and illegals on the way to work.

I would love to be a conspiracy theorist on this one that there is a federal push behind this.

However, I am more inclines to think it has to do with your terrible real estate market in Pheonix.

Home proces have come way down, and many homeowners who could not sell have rented them out to whoever will bring a rent check.

There are, however, several HUD programs that allow FHA foreclosures to sometimes be handled as section 8 housing as well.

I have to say that was one of the most elitist, vichey posts I’ve read on FR. How will you endure the great unwashed?!

I would avoid Glendale in general. The gang activity is unbelievable and the school district is comprised of bangers from an early age. Bristol bought her house down in Maricopa. Don’t be fooled by the name of the town-it is not in Maricopa County. She got a “good” deal but prices all through the state continue to decline. For example, home purchased in Maricopa in 2007 (4000 sq. ft. for nearly $400,000) recently sold for $75,000.

What I've seen of Chandler is clean, safe, reasonably priced, and centrally located.

I have a friend that has lived there for years and is very happy with the area. I've been out there on a few trips to visit, go to spring training, and/or golf. Never had any problems or seen much sign of urban decay.

The schools in north Glendale seem to be pretty highly rated. The school district I am thinking of is called Peoria Unified, even though it encompasses a good section of Glendale. I agree that the southern part of Glendale has mostly poorly rated schools and so a gang problem does not surprise me.

Phoenix has some good areas too, especially the northern part and areas near Litchfield Park. However, most of the houses around Litchfield are newer and part of an HOA. I want to avoid an HOA. The fees always go up and never decrease, just like taxes. Madison schools in Phoenix seem very good, but houses in that area are expensive.

Thanks for the suggestions.

How so?

I can't see how someone appalled by invading swarms of gangbangers, welfare queens, bums and thugs is "elitist" in any way, shape or form.

Would you rather these scum be redirected to your part of Pennsylvania? Large parts of PA which ,especially the central and western sections, have been immune, at least so far, from the La Raza-type hordes.

You’re seeing Obama’s army on the move. Best you can hope for is that La Raza will eat them for breakfast!

I want to avoid an HOA.

As a fiercely independent soul, in principle I don't care much for HOAs. Even though they are voluntary organizations, their very premise smacks of the nanny state and appears to oppose individual liberty and responsibility.

However, the good they do for a neighborhood outweighs those negatives to me. Where I live, the HOA does have enough clout to make sure that yards are kept tidy, people maintain their homes and avoid ghetto-looking "accessories". They don't have the force of law, but they can make things uncomfortable for the riffraff who would otherwise make the area trashy.

Look for property in the “magic” zip code of 85254. No gang issues and great school system.

I agree, Chandler seems pretty good. There isn’t a large selection of houses there for sale presently and I suppose that is for good reason. Namely, people are happy there and the houses that do come up for sale most likely sell quickly.

Have you heard of Gilbert, which is on the north and east side of Chandler? It was rated as one of the best areas in the US to live. It has the same drawback as Chandler though. Not a lot of houses for sale, so selection is limited.

I agree, zip code area 85254 has a great school system. The lowest rated school in the area is 8/10. Unfortunately, there is only house for sale currently listed at $300K and under, so selection is limited.

The first thing I thought of was a push by the Democrats and Unions, to help these people move into that area, to influence the elections, these no goodnicks would surly vote to throw out Sheriff Joe, and change the demographics to a Democrat state from a Pubbie. These fat old welfare rat mothers don't care if they are in Phoenix or Chicago as long as the welfare checks arrive on time. Wall mart could care less they are going to sell the same amount of junk food no matter where the “Takers” land.

I have a family member in border enforcement and they say there are parts of Phoenix that are under control of mexican drug cartels and under intense scrutiny from Federal law enforcement. The homes are great and priced well, but you are taking a huge risk moving your family into these areas.

The crime rates in Phoenix are above the national average, especially for auto theft and murder. I think your odds of being murdered in Phoenix are about three times higher than the national average.

The other area I liked was Las Vegas. It actually has an advantage in that there is personal income tax in Nevada, unlike Arizona. However, I could not locate any areas in Las Vegas with good schools. There might be a good elementary school, but the middle and high schools are quite poor or vice-versa.

The other state I am thinking of is Florida. Like Nevada, there is no personal income tax and the schools are pretty good. I don't have as much information about Florida as I do about Phoenix, though. I am planning to visit Phoenix this summer. I hope I don't get killed.
