Allen, Kaine Tied in VA Senate Poll
Pundit Press ^ | 5/9/11 | Thomas Ferdousi

Former Virgnia Governor and Senator George Allen has decided to run for his old seat. Allen famously lost his Senate seat in 2006 during the Democratic wave year to former Secretary of the Navy Jim Webb. Webb was mainly a single-issue, anti-Iraq War voice, and decided not to run again next year.

Along with this decision came scrambling in both parties to assess the new situation. In Webb's place, the Democrats decided to run former Governor Tim Kaine. Kaine was also the chair of the DNC. Allen has also tossed his hat into the ring-- although he may also have to fight off Tea Party challengers.

Now a new poll shows the two head-to-head in the race. The poll comes to us from the Washington Post, which does extensive coverage of Virginia politics.

Allen (R): 46% Kaine (D): 46% Other/und: 8

It’s going to be brutal. I would not underestimate Kaine one bit. I really really wish that Allen was not our candidate. A great guy but gave up too easily over the Macaca nonsense. What if he says something again? Is he going to give up again???? This seat is too risky to have him as our candidate. Kaine is very popular and not nearly as liberal as most crazy Democrats.

I dunno, VA seems to have turned pretty red. I also think Allen has learned much from his last defeat.

We will have to see. Hopefully you are right but that North Eastern section of Virginia is deep deep blue and of course that is where most of the people live.

yeah, I was wondering the same thing. Who conducted this poll and what was the sample? Kahne is a strong Democrat challenger, but Allen being the traditionally strong conservative candidate should be up at least 4 or 5 points here, northern VA or nay.

I am from VA (Newport News) and neither candidate is liked. Justified or not, macaca tarnished Allen. I hope he gets a primary challenge because a nameless republican would run away with this by 10+ points.

We'll see in how red VA is next year. Like the other states, the Obama reelection campaign will draw out the untermensch whose huge numbers got him elected in '08. Whether it's Kaine or Allen depends on how long Obama's coattails are.

The poll is bullcrap. It polled “registered voters”, not likely voters. Totally worthless.

Why is Kaine popular? Mark Levin makes him out to be a moronic far left-winger.
