Newt’s Done! So, Apparently, Is The GOP!
The Silent Majority ^ | 05-17-11 | J. D. Longstreet

Posted on 05/17/2011 6:05:32 AM PDT by Lexluthor69

Newt Gingrich’s ambition to be President of the US did not take a shot in the foot over the past weekend – it was a headshot! You can stick a fork in him ‘cause … he’s DONE!

Either Newt, or his campaign folks, grievously misread conservative voters concerning the nation’s financial mess and socialized medicine.

Two things the Gingrich campaign apparently missed: One is that Conservatives know drastic cuts in government spending must be made to salvage our country. The other is that conservatives do not like, nor do we want, socialized medicine … in any form or by any name … period!

No amount of “backing and filling” will get Newt out of this hole. He might just as well get out of the race — right now. Any chance he DID have has vanished. Kaput!

As I survey the Republican field of candidates for President today, I have to conclude the GOP has conceded the raced to Obama and the democrats.

I must tell you, I have strong suspicions the GOP does not want to have a republican in the Oval Office with the country in the financial mess it is in today. They do not want to be painted with the same brush as the current occupant — and they sure as heck do want to create a modern “Hoover Days” presidency.

As an American who believes the US is in dire need of rescuing from the clutches of the socialists in our government, I must tell you that should I confirm that is the policy of the GOP concerning this Presidential Election, I will immediately resign my membership in the Republican Party and become an Independent.

The Republican party has been finished for years.

All that's needed are the gravediggers, who have yet to appear.

I find it difficult to believe Newt is this stupid, or this tone deaf.

Gotta disagree. He sat on that loveseat with Pelosi, for cryin' out loud, and appeared with Hillary, of all people, to push for a federal medical records program. And don't forget his idiotic endorsement of Scuzzi.

He has shown he is completely assimilated into the Beltway mindset and is tone-deaf to the concerns of flyover country conservatives.

I would only have been shocked if Newt had show an ability to grasp the current political realities out in the grassroots.

“It looks to me like conservative causes are alive and well.”

I did not say he killed them. Many freepers tend to forget that presidential elections are all about the squishy middle.

I dare say 99.9% of freepers would vote for anyone that got the GOP nomination over Obama. However, the squishy middle, (independents), is a large and disinterested group. Sound bites from a “Republican”, (Gingrich), attacking conservative causes will get the attention of the morons in the middle. And therefore, cause some harm, even if slight.

He is just another of the whining libertarians who are trying to push our society off the edge to create a power vacuum they can fill.

They have tried unsuccessfully to establish political power through the ballot box and the "Free State Project". The only way they can possibly get it is through violent insurrection and the total breakdown of society.

You make a great case. Not sure how smart Newt is, but he’s demonstrated beyond debate that he’s completely tone deaf.

Conservatism is a movement without a leader of national stature.

As the rot of Gingrich shows, the entrenched elites are feasting on their own young of the next generation of political reps.

Any reluctant draftee like Christie is unacceptable. If he doesn't WANT to be potus, stay out of it. Define your life's calling as facing down teacher's unions.

Any man-off-the street squad leader in Afghanistan could do a better job making decisions for our nation, than what the GOP is running now.

Romney is a joke, like a toupee masquerading as a full head of hair. No thanks. McCain without the Palin. Raise another $50 million and flush it, Mitt. Some people spend a lot of money to get a message we have already set him. Repeatedly. That's called being a “slow learner”. Like Al Gore. Maybe you are a man whose greatest days are behind him already. Despite what pappy always told you about your “destiny”.

Maybe the liberals need to take America all the way down the toilet bowl to finally flush what is passing inside the beltway as GOP leadership.

Bunch of gutless wonders allowing an incompetent narcissistic ineligible muslim-axx kissing marxist lecture good hard working patriotic people about America's failings and selfishness.

Time for a trade-in, across the board.

Far from it. Hold the line here, and the US is in substantially better shape than Canada back in the mid 90s when they hit 110 percent of GDP debt.

Fine! I'm not so sure I do either.

Sarah should run on a third party ticket.

If you look at the laws of mathematics the fiscal situation is unfixable.

I disagree. The problems can be fixed, but it will take a strong will and an ability to force Congress to make the tough calls.

A combination of economic growth and spending cuts will do it. But both have to be more drastic than anything we've seen in the past. It is possible, though "radical".

The growth can be created by getting government out of the way of productivity, profit, and job growth:

  1. Eliminate corporate income taxes.
  2. Open up domestic energy production and prevent the EPA (et. al.) from taking action against development on the basis of what might happen instead of simply verifying that companies are abiding by regulations.
  3. Speaking of regulations, reduce the regulatory burden on business in general. Drastically.
  4. Disband the NLRB.
  5. Feel free to add more here.
Meanwhile, cuts need to be "drastic". Total spending should be capped to ensure that revenues outpace expenditures -- the budget surpluses go to pay down the debt. All spending must be prioritized, so that the absolute musts are dealt with before any though is given to anything else. Once the spending cap is reached, no other lower-priority items can be funded.

We really. Really.

Need to stop with the circular firing squad.

Or we’ll end up with McCain again.
