Democrats and the Art of Doing Nothing
Below the Gnat Line ^ | 26 May 2011 | Ken Carroll

Democrats have raised doing nothing to its highest form of art. If one steps back and simply looks - with a nonpartisan eye - at what they haven't done and the elegance with which they have not done it; it's amazing. And now Democrats proclaim that doing nothing has won them a US House seat in New York.

Poor Representative Paul Ryan (R-WI)! He thought the way to get ahead was to work on budgets that would realistically resolve our debt crisis with the least possible pain to the economy. Apparently it doesn't work that way, but he still gets the blame.

We all know that entitlements have to be reformed. In fact, while Democrats were leisurely doing as little as possible, they did take the time to criticize Republicans for not taking on entitlements because the entitlement programs are such a large part of the budget. In fact the Democrats, when they could be bothered, ridiculed the earlier GOP budget reform plans as "not serious" because social security, medicare and medicaid were not the focus of those new budget plans.

Let us take a moment and recall the 2010 budget when Democrats controlled both houses of Congress and the White House. That budget was a masterpiece of the current Democrat strategy. It was flawless; it angered almost no one and allowed Democrats to continue spending money like a Kennedy while not a one of them had to commit to a vote. That's right; there was no vote because there was no budget. Yes, yes, I know the law requires a budget, but when the media holds you harmless for doing nothing, why buck the trend?

In Wisconsin, Democrats have fine-tuned doing nothing to a high art — just run away to another state so that no vote can be taken. Then when you finally come back, recall all the Republicans who stayed at work.

One of their leaders even had mommy and daddy sending him funds to pay his hotel bills. A forty year old legislator who could not afford to stay out of town a couple of weeks. You’d think that he’d be embarrassed! But, no. He wore it like a mark of pride.

Scum, all.

I wish it was true that democrats have done nothing. Obamacare hasn’t even completely phased in yet and we’re already fighting it tooth and nail. Wait until it’s fully implemented. Yeah, do-nothing democrats would be a nice change.

You know, for the first time in my life, I can’t name a single Democrat that has an ounce of self respect or patriotism. None of them are worth the space they occupy.

The Dems are doing nothing about the spending problems because they don’t see them as problems, they see massive spending as the goal. The deficit is exactly as they intended and they have no desire to reduce it.

As for Paul Ryan, in my mind he went from Paul who to one of the few politicians I take seriously - just the opposite of the way I view the dimorats.

I didn’t cover this in the blog, but the fault lies with voters who don’t bother to obtain the information or accept disinformation.

I have a friend who’s a liberal who read the blog and emailed me telling me Ryan’s plan would affect my parents (who are in their later 70s). He’s a smart guy and he really believed that. How many people actually know Ryan’s plan doesn’t affect anyone over 55?

There’s too much disinformation out there.

That should read:

How many people actually know Ryan’s plan doesn’t affect Medicare for anyone over 55?
