Sharia is famously a public process - its central purpose is to establish authority and power for the shariah judges. Public executions (not secret murders) are kind of the whole point.

While this girl could theoretically have been put on trial by a sharia court, that isn't what happened here.

These three teens raped and killed a woman and then hid her body and tried to get away with it.

A sharia court would publicly proclaim what they had done.

She was from the Ukraine. I'm not sure if that's supposed to imply this happened in the Ukraine. If so, I wasn't aware that Muslims had a major presence there.

The Crimean Khanate was annexed by Catherine the Great in 1783. The Crimean Tartars (Moslems) were expelled from the Crimea in 1944 by Stalin, supposedly for collaboration with the Germans. They were not allowed to return to the Crimea until the mid 80’s.
