It has nothing to do with being “enlightened.” I live in the real world. This country is going down the toliet economically and we are being colonized by the Third World. At this point, Obama’s and McCain’s eligibility is far down the list of issues that need addressing. I am devoting my energies to the upcoming elections in VA, next year’s General Assembly session, and the daily ongoing battle I am engaged in to change our immigration policies.

If you live in the real world you will want to drain the swamp that is DC. What better way to do that than to present to the American electorate that the 111th Congress and McCain and Obama facilitated and perpetrated a fraud.

They should all be called to account and if they were part of this they should be severely punished. Bringing pressure to bear may allow some patriot hero in DC to step forward and rat out the whole stinking mess.

...the Canal Zone always was, and still is, Panamanian sovereign soil.

I beg to differ on that one. It was always considered a United States possession, akin to Guam or American Samoa. It sent delegates to the major party national conventions. If you look at old maps, you will see the Canal Zone denoted in a contrasting color to surrounding Panama, and denoted as "Canal Zone (U. S.)." Furthermore, McCain's original long form birth certificate was issued by the "Panama Canal Health Department" and is entirely in English. (All official Panamanian documents would have naturally been in Spanish.)

If you say that Canal Zone was always "Panamanian sovereign soil," you are buying the Carter Administration's argument that returning the Zone and the Canal to the Panamanians made no difference at all.

We will just agree to disagree. That train left the station some time ago.

The Panamanians never signed away the sovereignty to their land. Period.

I like your work, I really do. But Panama refused to sign the document turning over sovereignty to the U.S.A.

Americans can insist we ‘owned a strip dividing Panama, but its officials never signed it away. They refused.

“The Panamanians never signed away the sovereignty to their land. Period.”

You are totally misinformed (ignorant/probably stupid).

You have never lived here, and you know more than anybody else?

I believe it was back in the ‘30s we paid the last landholders/owners the price for their lands.

Who/what the heck are you reading or inventing for all this misinformation?

I’m not inventing anything. Just because land is bought in a foreign country, that doesn’t mean it becomes the sovereign land of the new owner’s nation of origin.

I dislike using Wikipedia but they have this information.
*****************************************
Citizenship (Panama Canal Zone)

“Although the Panama Canal Zone was legally an unincorporated U.S. territory until the implementation of the Torrijos-Carter Treaties in 1979, questions arose almost from its inception as to whether the Zone was considered part of the United States for constitutional purposes, or, in the phrase of the day, whether the Constitution followed the flag. In 1901 the U.S. Supreme Court had ruled in Downes v. Bidwell that unincorporated territories are not the United States.[3] On July 28, 1904, Controller of the Treasury Robert Tracewell stated: “While the general spirit and purpose of the Constitution is applicable to the zone, that domain is not a part of the United States within the full meaning of the Constitution and laws of the country.”[4] Accordingly, the Supreme Court held in 1905 in Rasmussen v. United States that the full Constitution only applies for incorporated territories of the United States.”

Until the rulings in these so-called “Insular Cases”, children born of two U.S. citizens in the Canal Zone had been subject to the Naturalization Act of 1795, which granted statutory U.S. citizenship at birth. With the ruling of 1905 persons born in the Canal Zone only became U.S. nationals, not citizens.[6]

For the record, neither is John McCain.

Of course he's ineligible. SOB didn't have a chance of getting enough votes, which is another, smaller requirement to be President. Mickey Mouse would have beaten McCain.

Good grief you are dumb.

The Canal Zone was UNIQUIE. It was the first and last in American history. Only idiots try to compare it to something else which nothing like the Canal Zone existed or exists today.

Again, you are trying to argue with someone who has lived here forever. When were you here in the Canal Zone?

Waiting for an answer of which you know nothing about anyway.

Gatún - this is the second time you’re called me names.

You’re frantic because I just gave you references to early 20th century court cases concerning the unincorporated status of the Canal Zone. Too bad you don’t like the facts.

Get a grip!

and children born in washington DC?

immigration law has been amended multiple times since then

we even now have a ten year residency requirement to place citizenhip on the offspring of us soil born citizens.

(if child who is citizen goes with deported parents, the returning adult has to be in the us 10 years to have his children born citizens through them)

If you ever fly into Panama, let me know, and I will treat you to a wonderful lunch. Agreed?

We can yammer then. I love dinners but not too healthy these days being out in the evening with crimes as in the U.S.
