Idiot Barack Øbama Just Makes Up History of Statue of Liberty
A Time For Choosing ^ | Gary Jackson

This is simply incredible. In order to make some nonsensical point about immigration, Obama just makes up the history of the Statue of Liberty, what it symbolizes, and how it came to be.

Of course, the corrupt media couldn’t be bothered to mention this to the public at large now, or at the time it happened. They are too busy getting their asses handed to them after erroneously claiming Sarah Palin was wrong about Paul Revere.

There will be no one able to speak up for Obama, as there is no truth to what he’s saying.

While it’s fun to point out what a total idiot Obama is, the real story here is the corrupt media and it’s bias. Even after many scholars pointed out Sarah Palin was right about Paul Revere, you still have a corrupt media pushing the meme she’s was wrong. As for Obama, if stupidity like this is never published by them, then as far as the blood libel media is concerned, it never happened! And these people wonder why no one takes them seriously any more!

A little history on the Statue:

The story of the Statue of Liberty is a story of change. The people of France gave the Statue to the people of the United States over one hundred years ago in recognition of a friendship established during the American Revolution. Over the years, the meanings of the Statue have grown until she has become an international icon of freedom and liberty, the most recognizable symbol of democracy in the world.

The idea of the Statue originated around 1865 with Edouard de Laboulaye who saw the United States as a country that had proved that democracy was a viable type of government- after all they had just survived a Civil War and abolished slavery. De Laboulaye also saw the gift as a way to reflect his wish for a democracy in France. Artist Frederic-Auguste Bartholdi, who was known for large-scale work, was commissioned to design this sculpture. Nothing happened for some time, but finally (in 1874) Bartholdi came to the United States to look for a location for his monument. He saw Bedloe’s Island from his ship as he sailed into the New York Harbor, and realized it would be a perfect location – since here his statue would always have an audience.

“Statue of Liberty Enlightening the World“, which is the full title of Bartholdi’s work was fashioned in the style of Greco-Roman art. Bartholdi used a technique called repousse to create her copper skin – hammering out each piece of copper until it was only 3/32 of an inch thick. Bartholdi recruited French engineer Alexandre Gustave Eiffel to build a skeleton for his statue. Eiffel designed a massive iron pylon and secondary skeletal framework which allows the Statue’s copper skin to move independently- yet stand upright. This flexibility is needed to allow the Statue to sway in the sometimes violent harbor winds.

Since the Statue was a joint effort between America and France, it was agreed that the American people were to build the pedestal, and the French people were responsible for the Statue and assembly. In France, public fees, various forms of entertainment and items with the Statue on it were ways to raise money. This was also tried in the United States- but with limited results. Joseph Pulitzer stepped in and was able to raise the remaining money for the pedestal using his newspaper “The World“.

The Statue was completed in France in July of 1884, then disassembled and shipped to the United States. She arrived in NY In June 1885. Once the pedestal was finished, the statue was re-assembled in four months. On October 28, 1886 the dedication of the Statue of Liberty took place in front of thousands of spectators.

Not yet seen as an international, much less national symbol, the Statue saw many physical changes and many administrative changes. She was cared for by the Lighthouse Board, the War Department, and finally the National Park Service after 1933 (although she had already been declared a National Monument in 1924). Bedloe’s Island was renamed Liberty Island in 1956 in honor of its most famous resident and in 1965 President Lyndon B Johnson added Ellis Island to the Statue of Liberty National Monument. In May of 1982, in anticipation of the Statue’s 100th birthday a restoration project was initiated. At the start of the Statue’s restoration, the United Nations in 1984 designated the Statue of Liberty as a World Heritage Site. The newly restored Statue opened to the public on July 5, 1986 during Liberty Weekend, which celebrated her centennial.

The tragedy of September 11, 2001 resulted in the closure of Liberty Island. The island re-opened after 100 days, however the Statue remained closed until August 3, 2004 when the pedestal level was opened for visitation. On July 4, 2009, the Crown of the Statue of Liberty was reopened to the public. Visitors must make a reservation to climb to the top of the Pedestal or to the Statue’s Crown.

An utter lying ass; however, this qualifies Obozo to head the CSG (Central Socialist Government).

Thanks for the info, Curth. Yes, it’s unbelievable how many tall tales the MSM lets the Usurper get away with. He lies as glibly as Casey Anthony,. Once you’ve told as many untruths as he has, they just roll of of his purple tongue... and knowing he won’t be challenged, why would he worry about a fact or two getting lost in the translation?

Any Republican mouthing this utter ignorance would be the subject of endless derision.

And justifiably so.

It looks like she raised a fund to help finance the pedestal upon which it stands. ... so it is an Obama half truth. Just like GM paid back all of the debt DURING HIS PRESIDENCY. Same slight of hand. I bet the French will love this one.

I wonder if Obama knows that she was a Zionist. I was taught way back in elementary school that the French were responsible for the Statue, but I guess Obama has set the record straight.

He could have said the statue was there to warn the British that the colonists were arming themselves for war and the media would have nodded in agreement.

CNN showed Boehner lighting a cig. The end of the report said obama used to smoke, too. Blitzer couldn’t wait to add tha obama quit a long time ago. The brown on the media’s nose is sickening.

Transcript:

One of the largest waves of immigration in our history took place little more than a century ago. At the time, Jewish people were being driven out of Eastern Europe, often escaping to the sounds of gunfire and the light from their villages burning to the ground. The journey could take months, as families crossed rivers in the dead of night, traveled miles by foot, endured a rough and dangerous passage over the North Atlantic. Once here, many made their homes in a teeming and bustling Lower Manhattan.

It was at this time that a young woman named Emma Lazarus, whose own family fled persecution from Europe generations earlier, took up the cause of these new immigrants. Although she was a poet, she spent much of her time advocating for better health care and housing for the newcomers. And inspired by what she saw and heard, she wrote down her thoughts and donated a piece of work to help pay for the construction of a new statue — the Statue of Liberty — which actually was funded in part by small donations from people across America.

Years before the statue was built — years before it would be seen by throngs of immigrants craning their necks skyward at the end of long and brutal voyage, years before it would come to symbolize everything that we cherish — she imagined what it could mean. She imagined the sight of a giant statue at the entry point of a great nation -– but unlike the great monuments of the past, this would not signal an empire. Instead, it would signal one’s arrival to a place of opportunity and refuge and freedom.

“Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand,” she wrote,

A mighty woman with a torch… From her beacon-hand Glows world-wide welcome… “Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!”… “Give me your tired, and your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to be free… Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

Let us remember these words. For it falls on each generation to ensure that that lamp -– that beacon -– continues to shine as a source of hope around the world, and a source of our prosperity here at home.

Thank you. God bless you. And may God bless the United States of America. Thank you.

She was also a Marxist and that’s what matters to Obama.

The donation was for the pedestal fund, not for the statue. That was what is known as a gift, Mr. O.

Well I will reserve comments on it until I can see if I can find some verification of his version of the story fitting into the known history of the Statue of Liberty, I see this as a possible attempt to make his detractors look as foolish as Sarah Palin recently did with hers. He could be trying for his gotcha now too...
