George Will: Deporting All Illegal Immigrants Is Never Going To Happen
Mediaite ^ | July 3, 2011 | Matt Schneider

Posted on 07/03/2011 5:48:29 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Conservative commentator George Will did double duty today, first defending the Constitution from those who believe the document was intended to be interpreted flexibly, and then later on This Week, also delivering a message much less likely to be cheered in some conservative circles. Will argued that it is impossible for the deportation of all illegal immigrants in the country to ever be considered a realistic solution.

Will believed that if the borders are secured, then and only then, could a non-politicized discussion take place about what to do with the illegal immigrants currently in America. If there are 11 million illegal immigrants in the country, Will explained why it’s impossible to think “rounding them up” could ever be possible:

“To deport them would require not just police measures we would never tolerate. The majority have been here five years or more, they’ve had children here, their children are citizens. But to depart them would require a line of buses bumper-to-bumper extending from San Diego to Alaska. Not going to happen. And as soon as people come to terms with that, then we get on to settling it.”

Given that “a secure border is not a weird aspiration,” Will argues Americans are not xenophobic and merely just want security. Unfortunately, such a common sense, middle of the road approach probably seems out of reach given how highly politicized the immigration debate always gets.

You are right, it is not just the democrats looking for illegal votes, it is also a lot of republicans looking for cheap labor. I have even had them on this forum acting like it can’t be done.

“But do you deny medical treatment for a serious illness, heart attack, auto accident for anyone, including illegal immigrants?”

Yes.
And deny all health care to their babies, as well.
It’s the only way, if you truly want them gone.

Sorry to be harsh. But I hear very little from conservatives here that seems realistic vis-a-vis removing 30-40 million illegals from our soil.

Another reality that the majority of Freepers fail to see is that the illegals “auto-legalize” through their offspring. It doesn’t matter whether 30 million of them, or 20 million, or 10 million, or only 5 million ever apply for “amnesty”. It doesn’t matter one whit. Every one — let me shout that out for emphasis, EVERY ONE — of their progeny is an automatic American citizen. This is true if not a single illegal requests or is granted amnesty. Their children — of which there are as many of them, if not more — are all “legal” from the moment they emerge from their mothers’ wombs.

Regrettably, Mr. Will is right on this one. They can’t be gotten rid of, short of draconian measures that would rival that of the “Nazis and boxcars” of the 1940’s. Mind you, I’m not saying that I personally would oppose such tactics. But roughly 99% of Anglo-Americans could not be persuaded to do what’s really necessary to expel the illegals from America.

And that includes Freepers as well.

Lots of folks in this forum who talk the talk.
But few who would “walk that walk”.

Just sayin’....

We allow around 2 MILLION people a YEAR to become American Citizens via LEGAL immigration - plus nearly a dozen temp worker programs - just how many more are we supposed to IMPORT each year anyway? Also a huge percentage of those allowed to become citizens each are HISPANIC... So - we are not doing enough? BALONEY!!!

Well, several suggestions on this thread sound pretty good-fines and jail time for those who knowingly hire illegal immigrants. Immediately secure the borders.
No welfare benefits, no drivers licenses, no benfits of any kind. Institute those policies for a start and the illegal immigrants will leave.

If you Will-haters out there would drop down 11 threads and see the article concerning the 16 democrat Senators who oppose their State Voter ID laws, getting on their case would be much more helpful than telling us all that G. Will is some kind of commie sell-out.

Just enforce immigration law and make it too risky for employers to employ the illegals. A lot of our illegal immigration problems will solve themselves through self-deportation.

Exactly. George Will's statement has got to be one of the most inane on the issue. Like a poster above says; how did they get here in the first place. They used their own motivation.

It really would not be that complicated. The most challenging thing is emergency medical care for an illegal in the meantime. And that could be handled by performing the service, reporting the illegal status, and charging the subject by whatever means available, i.e. bank accounts, garnishing the employer, etc. If no pay at least there is now a recorded illegal.

George Will is really out of hand here, or is supporting an agenda.

The lack of political will to do so. 40% of the illegal aliens in this country came here legally and overstayed their visa. Securing the border fixes only part of the problem.

You are WRONG - cut off jobs... cut off benefits and they self deport ... proven many times in small measure... just not done in large measure — because it is PC

The common sense solutions have been voiced 5 millions times.

Did ya notice the government has opted for none of them?

YES I have noticed for many many years... Why? Because the benefits to our worthless - spineless ‘Representatives’ - and I use the term loosely — are too great... We don’t have enough money to pay our ‘Representatives’ more than they get paid by Special Interests...

http://www.worldpoliticsreview.com/trend-lines/1021/where-does-the-u-s-get-its-oil

We get as much oil from $@+!*^! Mexico as we do from the Saudis. You know, the Arabs who have cars made out of solid silver, who purchase western women for their collections and build snow resorts in the desert?
But Mexico can’t afford to feed, educate and medicate ten (10%) per cent of their population, so their lower level adminisitrators all the way to El Presidente himself encourage them to come here illegally, and then they break our criminal laws ... I take that back, Mexican officials give their unwanted “useless eaters” a first-rate education: in how to use our welfare system.

Again—run up a tab for them, document it and then present it. If they don’t pay—say, with oil in kind—then garnish assets. `Nationalize’ Pemex.
But we don’t see that happening do we? The federal government pusues billions in moneys paid over to Mexican nationals with less energy then they pursue one American student over student loans. They threaten us with more dire consequences under federal law for copying a DVD rental then foreign lawbreakers for violating our immigration and naturalization laws.
What we do see is our Pretender in Chief selling off our stategic oil reserve ....

But, you say, this `paying the piper’ approach would require invading Mexico? As La Raza says, the border is an artificial construct. Their army is constantly taking a wrong turn at Albuquerque (”!Lo siento, ja ja ja!”) So it wouldn’t realy be an invasion so much as a kinetic suit on a judgment.

As it is now Mexican nationals here (illegally, we have to keep reminding our government of that, don’t we?) show up at our grocery stores, emergency rooms and, yes, at American employers with their hands out offering to work for subsistence wages, and they get paid.
Isn’t it enough that most good-paying factory jobs have already been `out-sourced’ to Mexico and the Pacific rim? It’s no wonder we’re about an eyelash away from a `D’ credit rating. Thanks George W. Bush and Barack “Whateverthehellyourrealnameis” Obama for taking this country right to the precipice!
The last revolution in this country was begun by merchants against landed aristocracy in this country and in England. The coming one will be fought by Americans who have had enough of the `aristocracy’ that took the place of royalty and their federal stooges selling this great country like an estate auction for their own gain.

The US-VISIT Program approved in 1996 was never fully implemented. You are right. Our government is not serious about securing our country. We have 50 million visitors a year. Despite the large number, we have the technology to record and track visa overstays. Many countries require visa holders to check in quarterly on their wherebabouts. We have students who come here and just disappear. The universities don’t report their comings and goings nor does the USG require them to check in regularly.

“Our current President and our representatives no longer care what the American people want. They would prefer to watch this country be eroded away by the worthless third world thieves that have come here to pillage what remains of this country’s wealth.”

a) this president doesn’t “prefer to watch” - he’s been actively plotting this for years (along with his peeps) and has been hastening it full speed ahead. He’s not just a detached globalist - he has visceral hatred for this republic and her people, and won’t be happy until he brings the whole thing Down.

b) we DO have some representatives who care what the American people want, because they want the same thing.

We just need MORE of them.

And to evict B. Hussein O and his traitorous, Marxist/Communist/Muslim circle -— at all costs.

I can see us begin to rebuild with anyone else in there, but no way with him. He’s far too treacherous and purposeful in his motives and mission.

There’s no need to deport most of them. Just cut off all the benefits, freebies, and the legal protections that are rightfully due only to citizens, and most of them will go home on their own.

for a serious illness, heart attack, auto accident for anyone, including illegal immigrants?”

IMO, that’s up to individual doctors and hospitals to decide based on their conscience. However, if they choose to treat them, they should not recieve any taxpayer funding to reimburse them, and they should not be able to pass the expenses along to the rest of us.
