Great places to retire can be found outside of Florida and Arizona. In fact, many can be found outside of the U.S. entirely. Safe, attractive and affordable places to retire are scattered across the globe, from Latin America to Asia and even Europe. We've narrowed our list to eight overseas retirement hot spots.
Two factors critical to retirees (and their wallets) shaped our choices: cost of living and health care. To make our picks we consulted several experts on travel, tourism and overseas retirement, including Jennifer Stevens, executive editor of International Living, and Kathleen Peddicord, publisher of LiveandInvestOverseas.com. We also gave added weight to the cost of living, real estate and health care components of International Living's Global Retirement Index of the top 25 countries for retirees.

No discussion from these articles on individual rights or gun rights. I wouldn’t go to any third world or commie country unless I was packin’—I don’t care if it would would cost a penny a month to live there. They’d slit your unarmed throat for that.

I took an oath to protect and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. That oath has no expiration date. Real patriots do not desert their country and hide in some foreign land. The Founding Fathers pledged their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor in defense of this country. And most lost all of those things. There are some things worth fighting and dieing for.
I will retire in my native country of United States of America although a small cabin in the British Virgins islands might be nice for three months out of the year.
My husband used to travel to Chile on business. He absolutely loved it.
In a couple of those countries, Communists already own them.
What about Sicily or Crete? Chania, Crete is a lovely port town and is near a U.S. Navy base. The people are friendly, the weather is gorgeous nine months out of the year and winters are very mild—low 40s or so. The food is awesome, blending Italian and Greek cuisines, but there are plenty of Greek dishes to satisfy any palate. The beaches are beautiful, bringing summer visitors from mainland Europe and Scandinavia. Shopping is economical and there are many bargains on jewelry and leather goods.
Now that sounds like a PLAN!

I could move to most any country I cared to. I have the time, the resources, and the ability. What I don’t have is the guts.
I don’t have the guts to shave every morning and look at myself in the mirror knowing I ran away from the very country that gave me the freedom to achieve what my heart desired.
I don’t have the guts to forget my father, my uncles, my grandfathers, etc. I would have to forget them, never again think of them. I would have to forget them or forever feel the shame of running when they stood, fraught, and in some cases died while I ran away to seek some economic gain or safety.
I don’t have the guts to stand before God and answer the charge of breaking my sacred oath to protect and defend this nation and instead how I chose to run away.
I guess I am too much of a coward to run. Good thing we have all these brave patriots that can’t wait to make their travel arrangements.
Good god, Merida?? Talk about congestion. Look at it in Google Earth. Why not Cancun? Its not that far away from Merida.
I took a side trip to Vancover from Seattle a few years back. Honestly, was not that impressed. Especially when the clerk at the hotel front desk read me the riot act about how they weren’t responsible for my car. Apparently, guest cars were routinely broken into, vandalized or stolen. It was nice by the coast, but the rest of it looked like any other big [North American] city.

To those of you who hold to the line “this is my country” and denigrate those who have left or will leave, just remember our ancestors left their country. Do you hold them in contempt?
Our country was founded on ideas. The most radical of which was that the governments powers were to be limited. Its powers were enumerated and very limited so that, except for a very short list of governmental powers, we were to be a free people. That is no longer the case. My “country” is were people hold to those ideals and anyone who holds to those ideals is my countryman regardless of geography.
Our country, as freedom consuming as our government has become, may still be the best for freedom. That is not a compliment to the USA but a sad comment on the state of freedom across the globe.
We may all have to be. If one starts, it will be the left that fires the first shot. My guess is at some point a leftist president would move against Texas as the state pushes back like they are against abominations like the TSA.
Would be interesting to see if states really try to secede.
