Privatizing the police will lower crime and prevent brutality

This is going to be politically correct and albeit offensive to some but tax payer funded police DOES NOT WORK. Like other positions in government there is no incentive that exists for employees to do good most in fact tag along for free handouts from the taxpayers. Add to this liberal communists in power expect us to be solely dependent on them for assistance. Our founding fathers NEVER expected us to be fully dependent on them. This is one of the reasons we have the 2nd amendment.

The other thing is that government control means more of an attachment and bias in favor of special interests in this case wealthy white taxpayers in gated communities who they will be more concerned about rather than law abiding poor minorities with no access to guns.

But by privatizing them (bear in mind I do not intend to 100% privatize them) By putting companies in charge and requiring they compete means that there will be motive and incentive to do their jobs instead of ignoring us and being lazy.

In addition payment will depend on formulas and statistics on population and crime. The lower the crime in large cities, the higher the pay. Also penalties will be assigned for violating protocol and practicing discrimination and brutality.

With that in mind let us go now the root causes of crime. Gun control and a loss of morality. It is important that first we end gun control. No matter what the law says criminals will always have guns so we should make it easier for law abiding citizens to have them.

Then there must be a return to our Judeo-Christian principles which made this a great nation. People need to realize that they are accountable to a supreme being who will reward a hundred fold for what they have done in this life. As Mitt Romney put it, the increase in crime and government tyranny is a response to a loss of morality which is necessary for our nation to remain free and open.

Now I know what you're thinking... What about blackwater security? What about the interests of the private company? Make no mistake there WILL be regulations and there still will be government control over the police but the government will not have as much of a hand and the private companies that aid in contracting law enforcement will be confined to proper boundaries. Also they cannot be owned by other parent companies and management will change hands regularly to prevent corruption.

This is just an idea I'm playing with but make no bones about it while a government funded police force is constitutional it is not to be totally relied on and until we are willing to stop the political correctness society will continue to suffer.

Pork! It's the meat of kings!

It's made from pig, try it with onion rings.

Pork sure goes with everything, cause it's made from

swine, and swine sure tastes fine.

Just bring some to the picnic baby,

You know you wanna stuff it in my hamper

But please put it in some tupperware

Cause I don't wanna be a porky chancer.

Let's talk about pork

Converse about meat

Veggies get wedgies cause meat can't be beat

Ham and bacon you should taste them

I know it's surprising but it's so appetizing!

I have been mulling over whether to post this on FR. I don't know what people's thoughts are but I just hope this stuff isn't too strong to handle.

But think of it this way... Imagine what happens when Democrats get their way and dissent is illegal. You ready to end up getting walloped and have a Democrat Jury let the officers that maimed you get off?

This was done in the past in some cities. SF, for one, had private police, different districts had their own police forces and it worked fine. Once they all became wards of the government they deteriorated.

Personally I think we should go back to county Sheriffs and do away with police forces altogether, that is the way it was handled before about 1850 when NYC hired a police force.

Too strong to handle? I originally began this reply by actually refuting points that you'd made, but then I decided that it was a waste of time. The ultimate truth here is that you posted a pure 100% unadulterated pipe dream that has zero chance of coming to fruition.

But that was when every farmer had a rifle over the fireplace, and knew how to use it.

You aren't advocating that people defend themselves, are you?!

Thought not. This is Modern America, where Little People do what they're told and need the Big Men to take care for them, right?....right. Uh huh....

“Privatizing the police will lower crime...”

Private security in department stores and malls put an end to shoplifting. /s

“But think of it this way... Imagine what happens when Democrats get their way and dissent is illegal. You ready to end up getting walloped and have a Democrat Jury let the officers that maimed you get off?”

Why would a Democrat Jury only let the officers off and not the private security?

The trouble with hiring mercenaries is that they will work for the highest bidder, period. They will switch sides as the price changes. At some point they may decide to go independent.

I think our system works fine, hire ex military who are loyal Americans. I believe that they will side with the people and the constitution if it comes to that.

I think it’s a valid concept, and worth debating. I also think that past results may not be indications of future performance, for example, it’s not unreasonable to ask private security officers to “wear a wire”, undergo weekly drug testing, or have their movements tracked by GPS while they are on duty - thing that the public employee unions would raise holy hell about. I like the notion that a city or county would gain a flexible workforce that they could back down when times are tough and temporarily beef up when required, without the cost of public sector employees.

The discussion should be about how to turn fixed public costs into variable costs across the board. If a service or function provided by the gov’t could be privatized, we should ask “why not”? If it doesn’t make sense for police, then how about everything else? In my city for example, the public fire department provides emergency ambulance service as well as private first responder companies. Why should my taxes support gov’t competing with private industry?

Glad you did -- interesting topic.

People here in New York State are shocked (shocked I tell you) to learn that Scottsdale, AZ has had a private fire department since the forties. They can't imagine anything but a government-run fire department.

Then I mention that it's managed by Rural-Metro, the same company that has the ambulance contract in Buffalo. Why shouldn't ambulances be government-run, too? I ask them. Well, they'd never thought about that, either.

Makes for fun discussions.

Violent crime took off in the US starting in the mid 1960's. The Great Society had arrived and a multi-decade War on Poverty was underway.

The above link has the best collection of crime stats that I've come across. It covers both the US and the individual states from 1960-2009.

A private corp can held accountable.

A union run PD using tax payer funds to pay awards, cannot.

Police today are products of decades of unions being able to lower standards to expand membership.

And the membership owes ite allegiance to their unions first.

Could we shoot them as traitors if they violate our constitutional rights?

If not, no thanks. If you have not noticed, CEO’s are as fascist and communist as are the DNC and their wing in the Republican party. Who has their hoofs in the US Treasury and harass people with politial correctness? Would they join their business pals and hire illegals and foreigners to police us? A private Mexican police force would be such an improvement. They don’t call them limo liberals for nothing.

“Why would a Democrat Jury only let the officers off and not the private security?”

I know I’m on a cold thread but I seldom find clear thinking on subjects like this and I just got around to watching the poorly constructed video that accompanied it.

You are correct of course, ThomasThomas, when you seem to imply that ALL people are corrupt. You can bribe a private official just as easily as a public one.

First of all mainestategop, cops aren’t pigs. Some of them are jackasses, but do you honestly believe that simply changing uniforms will keep jackasses off the force? How about recommending some form of public review, because nothing disinfects like sunlight. Publicly or privately.
