VIDEO - Handcuffed man repeatedly kicked, beaten, and tasered by police while in handcuffs

A Tennessee man sustained a punctured lung and cracked ribs following a brutal beating from a team of police deputies - while he already in handcuffs.

After being stripped naked, the man was kicked and shocked repeatedly with a Taser gun. The January 23 incident was caught on tape by video equipment fixed to the vehicle of a Humphreys county sheriff deputy.

The victim, Darren T. Ring, 34, of New Johnsonville is requesting to be released from jail where he has been held in lieu of bond for more than five months.

Humpreys County deputies descended on Ring after responding to a report of gunshots in Waverly. Ring was not arrested for firing the shots but was drunk when the deputies arrived, reports show.

In a grand jury indictment, Ring was charged with three counts of assaulting an officer, resisting arrest, and a parole violation.

However, the video footage shows deputies repeatedly telling Ring to stop resisting arrest while he is incapacitated laying facedown in the snow with at least two deputies on top of him

It does cause the mind to ponder, what kind of behavior five minutes prior would you suggest could justify this.

I dunno, maybe kicking at the cops when they were cuffing him? His legs were still free to move.

.....He was given warning BEFORE being Tased. Once again, do we know if he had fought and/or resisted before getting handcuffed?.....

So what if he had given them trouble previously? He was not a threat at that time. They should have taken more time before resorting to tasering him. He was not an immediate threat. If they can't recognize the threat level they dont belong in that job. They could easily have turned him over if for some reason they needed to.

...I think a review is due for seeing if, upon the suspect being Tasered, if there should be a change in procedure, because at that point the person could well have a physical reason to not be able to roll over. But I don't see a problem with him getting Tased initially. And drunken morons are a real threat even if handcuffed...

Drunk morons should be handled with come-along holds or pressure points to force compliance. Tasing and beating are another whole level. People have died the result of being tasered. Again what was the rush? let him freeze his a$$ off till he complies. They assumed he was intoxicated, what if he was just physically or mentally disabled?

If I am not being clear, Dirtboy in my JUDGEMENT does not deserve the privilegde of posting.

You can kiss my pasty rump.

I guess in your rush to judgement of the cops, no one noticed that the video we see starts at the 21 minute mark. Why not show more of the video prior to that point? What was withheld?

He was not a threat at that time.

Notice that the video we see starts at 21:00 or so.

What happened prior to that? Did he try to kick officers? Did he act passive and then lash out? We don't know what led up to that point. And that is my point. I don't trust a video where we don't see the entire story.

And if you don't think a guy with his legs free is not a threat, well, I guess you don't value your teeth.

"I've dealt with drunken morons before, and they are very unpredictable and dangerous."

Considering you attitude you might be better taking the fifth rather than discussing how you handled drunk morons in the past.

By the way you didn't answer my question about MMA, also I watched the video a couple times now and I don't see any high degree of resistance and if fact what I see is a guy who has been beat fairly much out of it and clear in a state that any well trained officer would realize was borderline medically dangerous to the suspect. Also I see no evidance that any officer had been in any way subject to that bruttal kicking attack by the suspect that you keep talking about in fact all of them seem to be in fine pysical shape.

He adds no value to the discussion other than making folks aware their are people like him out there in open society and their limitations make them dangerous to decent folks.

Yeah, moron, I've made plenty of posts on FR and I will call out the cops when they go overboard for no reason. I guess in your rush to judge the cops and judge me, you didn't notice that the video clip starts at about the 21:00 mark. What happened before 21:00 that was edited out? I don't trust edited videos. And that is my point. We don't know what kind of danger this guy presented to the cops before he ended up on the ground. Drunks can be passive and then suddely lash out and get extremely violent. Did that happen here before the 21 minute mark? We don't know. I'll wait for the entire video before passing final judgement.

“because his legs were still free to move” is an interesting rationaliztion.

If video showed him kicking prior to the beating, that video would have been released. It wasn’t. This is all they have to justify their “acting out”. Either you agree with their actions as shown, or not. Otherwise you’re just waiting for unicorns and skittles, aren’t you.

By the way you didn't answer my question about MMA,

Uh, dude, MMA has refs and the fighters aren't drunk. My point was to the danger of upkicks. A guy on his back in cuffs can still deliver one.

So you've seen what happened prior to the 21 minute mark where this video clip starts? Check the running clock on the right-hand side. We don't see the entire story. IMO if nothing had happened in the initial 21 minutes, we would have seen it. Stuff is edited for a reason.

I tried to stop a guy with a 1x4 from running outside and hitting someone else. But he was too determined and ended up sending the other guy to the hospital.

Drunken a-holes can inflict a lot of carnage.

When you have 5 Sober cops against one naked drunk guy in the snow then that’s very easy to do.

You mean to tell me the cops don’t know how to handle this. Please...... It’s obvious they were getting off beating down this guy. They look like Gestapo Goons beating people for fun.

I think dirtboy is what we are seeing here is you trying to justify your own conscience over some beating or beatings that dished out in the past to some poor drunk slob.

I could have immobilized that guy with just the reflection of headlights from my rump. He would have been temporarily blinded. AND trying to claw his eyeballs out with his toes.

Nice mind-reading. I just know that drunk a-holes are one of a cop's daily nightmares. I also know that we didn't see the first 21 minutes of this video so we have no idea what transpired before this - wonder why?

If someone is stupid enough to get close enought to his legs then of course he could be a threat. Do you walk behind horses too? Approach him fom behind his head where he can’t see you. Sheesh.

One thing I agree with is wait for the whole story.

I’m surprised the cops released this video at all.
I’m surprised the cops feel the video justifies their actions.
I’m surprised some here are OK with it all.

I’m surprised that I’m surprised any more.
