National Debt Politics : How Obama sees the voter as stupid
sickoflibs rant | July 25, 2011 | sickoflibs

First let’s cut through the ‘big budget deal’ Obama smoke screen. Obama’s original demand to Republicans months ago was a debt limit increase that is big enough (~ 3 trillion $) to get him through his presidential election, with NO budget cuts. And that is his only demand still: a huge debt increase that is clean of budget cuts. So his 'big deal debt/budget negotiations were a shame and the trillions in budget cuts he claimed he offered never existed because his own congressional leaders told them they were DOA which is why he killed the ‘big deal’ last week. They were all cynical acts of political posturing to try to get what he always demanded with your support: his demand for a huge debt limit increase with no ‘real’ spending cuts that he will blame on Republicans anyway (for the debt) for when he runs for re-election. Obama thinks you are stupid enough to believe what he says, not what he does.

So how does Obama see voters?

They will believe he was serious about his endless hope for a ‘big deal’ debt negotiations that he poisoned from the start with demands for tax increases, while he kept this sham up for months telling you over and over how he hopes for them and he is still talking as if it is a possibility.

They will expect Republicans (the new Republican House) to help him (Obama) raise taxes to pay for continued government spending when Democrats themselves wouldn’t do it when they had exclusive control of congress and the White House, and it could not be blocked by Republicans. They wouldn’t raise taxes themselves for two years in 2009-2010 when they would have got the blame for its results because they wouldnt need Republican votes, yet they want you to believe that raising taxes is what set off the 1990s economic boom.

They will believe that Obama put trillions of dollars of spending cuts on the table when he couldn’t even cite one when asked in one of his many press conferences.

They will believe that the party that added $3T of national debt in two years when they had a ‘block proof’ majority is serious about reducing the deficit now, and that the debt they ran up was inherited from GWBush.

They will believe that Republicans ‘lines in the sand’ like not raising taxes is putting politics ahead of the nation, BUT Obama threatening to put this nation in financial default by vetoing a debt extension that isn’t large enough to take him past his re-election without another vote/debate, is putting the nation ahead of politics.

They will believe that just because he keeps saying ‘everyone should put politics aside’ in his regular press conferences while complaining about Republicans in them to get the upper political hand, that he is actually ‘putting politics aside’.

They will believe that Social Security doesn’t add ‘one dime’ to the national debt, but a delay in extending the nation’s borrowing will hold up social security payments.

I am not yet convinced the voter is smart enough to figure out what Obama is up to.

After watching Republicans here tonight I'm not sure they're smart enough to figure out what their own leaders are up to...as they work with the Democrats to raise the debt ceiling and kick every other can down the road.

The only real quibbling going on is over who gets what political cover for the next election.

Obama is as close to a moron as I have ever seen for a graduate of Harvard Law School. I applied there with a 3.7 GPA, in Boston College’s Undergraduate Honors Program...... reject in the first round. I got accepted into HBS....left after one semester ;-)

You, Mr. Banker, apparently are not familiar with Affirmative Action! If they look good in a suit, give them a diploma, even though they can't spell tort and find them a spot in a large law firm that is trying to avoid the Reverend Jesse Jackson... You pretty, you a lawyer! You a shot! You an incompetent joke (ops! Insert that little Datz Racist fellow here...)

I’ve been listening to Peter for 5 years now....he is correct on many issues though his timing, like everyone else’s (for the most part) is a little off as the Whores on the Hill spin, dodge, cover-up, delay and lie.
