Shhh, France Defends Traditional Marriage
Weekend Libertarian ^ | July 28, 2011 | B.P. Terpstra

Same-sex marriage (for now) is coming to the liberal-leaning state of New York. But in Europe, last month, traditional marriage received an even bigger victory, when France’s lower house of parliament rejected a bill that would have allowed homosexuals to marry. Or as the UMP lawmaker Michel Diefenbacher explained, “We are against homophobia but we do not want to alter the image and function of marriage in the collective subconscious.” And, so it was. Tradition prevailed.

But thanks to herd politics, a media silence ruled for one result, and a celebration was arranged for another. In all truth, unprofessional campaigning journalists were too emotional, siding with “marriage equality” activists over balance.*

My critical-thinking concerns run deeper than report stacking though, because as the social psychologist and sociologist, Gustave Le Bon, also known as the father of groupthink, understood, in-crowd psychology is a schizophrenic creature.

The group psychology is interesting here. And it reinforces my concerns: Good news for traditionalists is often no news. Good news for media-approved activists is the news. There are numerous examples. […]

Incidentally, New York didn’t give people the right to vote, making gay marriage more fragile than what we’ve been told. Or as William C. Duncan noted in America’s National Review, “One of the facts about tonight’s debate over same-sex marriage that will be neglected in the adulatory coverage is the really extraordinary process that brought this innovation to the Empire State. New York law, for instance, requires bills to be published 72 hours before a vote. The public, however, did not see the full language of the bill voted on tonight for more than a few hours (and only if they were exceedingly diligent in looking for it). Normal rules of debate were waived, the session was extended, etc.”

Of all places, France. And they’re hardly religious at all.

I am ashamed for my country on this issue. Really ashamed.

Apparently we are using our diplomats to promote homosexuality in other countries, now, too. It has sort of become our reason for being, apparently.

I used to be proud of what America stood for.

I was thinking, the old purpose of marriage was to channel and contain sexuality, particularly female sexuality, because of fertility.

The new purpose of marriage, according to homosexuals and many other moderns, is to privilege sexuality, even if intrinsically infertile, and give those in a sexual relationship, but not other kinds of relationships, economic and legal benefits.

When GE moved it's X-ray business to China, I knew that we were now worse economically than communist China. And now - we find out that we're worse socially than the French.

Vive la différence!

Definition: an exclamation pertaining to the qualities that make the sexes unique.

It’s just another way to promote de-population of the Earth.

No other civilization, society, or culture has ever sanctioned homosexuality like the USA is doing in scope or depth.

It is a deathstyle, not a lifestyle that is helping to ruin this once great country.

Contain female sexuality? Yes, I know women have been out of control sexually for a thousand years - raping and pillaging throughout mankind - while men shrink behind their veils and chastity belts and those charming blue body bags the guys of Afghanistan are forced to wear.

I think the old purpose of marriage was set in the garden of Eden. Its purpose is not just childbirth, but for the prospering of mankind in general.

Further in the Bible we are told that marriage reflects the relationship of the church to Jesus.

The fact that the far best way of bearing and rearing children is within a male/female two parent married household is the fruit of this, certainly. But not the reason for it, as I see it.

God have the reason: “It is not good for man to be alone.” And of course He provided man a wife, not a husband.

Those guys in Afghanistan are TERRIFIED of female sexuality - that is why they make them wear those things - that is why a 9/11 hijacker was worried that a woman might touch his privates after the crash - that is the sad sick thing - they are scared of what normal men LOVE!

Yes, they are the sickest men on the face of the earth. Hands down. They absolutely terrify me.

I am not religious but I still think you are SO right. Marriage can bring enormous happiness and fulfillment to couples if they are mature and well-matched. Surely, child bearing is not the only reason for the bringing together of man and woman. Important, of course, but not the only reason.

I speak as a very happily married woman!

Plenty of rapine has been committed by married men. It was even expected of the soldier of Allah, or the Viking, for instance.

The married women were expected to behave themselves. It may be that male sexuality needs control more than female, but marriage exists more to control the female than the male. It gives the male sanctioned access; and it gives the children a father.

The double standard.
