It's obvious from the concessions made by President Barack Obama and Congressional Democrats that they cannot make a reasonable case for their various positions on raising the debt ceiling. Mr. Obama keeps scolding his political opposition, demonizing Americans who already pay the lion's share of federal taxes and threatening our most vulnerable citizens with starvation and homelessness; but he and his Congressional accomplices can not explain why higher taxes, more borrowing and more government spending would improve the economic health of the country.
The Republicans case for significant spending cuts, keeping tax rates at their current levels and promoting a balanced budget has been clearly made by both Republican lawmakers and the common sense of the American people.

When you don’t know what the *uck you are doing

Rating downgrade is definitely on the way, there is no way to avoid it with the Congresscritters in DC at this point.
If debt ceiling is increased, collapse has better chance of getting very bad after the 2012 elections.
If debt ceiling is not increased, collapse will get very bad before 2012 elections.
That is why Democrats want the debt ceiling increased now. They know that things will get very bad on their watch unless they get a trillion or two more borrowed money into the Treasury.
Repubs are afraid that Dems will somehow pass this off on them. But, rubes that they are, they don’t realize that:
a) a Repub President will likely be elected in 2012
b) the collapse is going to get very bad no matter what
c) if the debt ceiling is raised, the bad collapse will really star kicking in after 2012 and this will destroy the Repub brand name, Dems will be very able to successfully rewrite history and forever blame Repubs for the worst that is yet to come.
Actually, perhaps it’s no so bad. The Repub party will be wiped out and out of it’s ashes and some independents a conservative party could rise, with liberal Repubs going independent or Democratic.
The American public really needs to have the lesson driven home that government that takes in $2 trillion a year in taxes does not need to borrow for normal operations. The impending collapse, in theory, would provide the political capital to get Constitutional Amendments ratified that would redesign the financial aspect of the Federal government - once the dust settles, given that America is still some semblance of what it was.
It must be her voluptuousness that has brought her to a seat in the senate.
I think we need a very public reading of wasteful spending and outright scams in the house starting with the pay of dozens of czars.
Democrats should be willing to pass Republican-drafted legislation to fix the debt crisis the same way they passed 0bamacare: Without reading it and waiting until it’s passed to find out how much it cuts spending. As Rep. Pelosi said, we need to pass the bill so we can find out what’s in the bill.
