The next 72hs: What last minute preps to take?

What you would be looking at would be civil unrest in most mayor US cities and thousands of minor ones as well. Once the images of people looting and getting away with it hit the TV you’re looking at thousands of bums thinking of doing the same thing and rushing out the door to the nearest store. That gets bad pretty fast. You’re talking about looting, fires, closed stores, destruction of vehicles and private property, and given US context some gang related activity taking advantage of the lawless situation as well to settle scores. While invasion of residential properties wont be as common as the looting of commercial property, it can happen in several cases.

"Costco has 50lbs rice for $17 and 50lbs bread flour for $16."

Remember, buy WHITE rice - almost as nutricious as brown rice but stores a LOT longer.

Out of the light they last a very long time, purified water kept out of light in general last a very long time the most that usually happens is it goes flat as the air goes out of it, but shake it up a bit or pour back and forth from container to container and it will be just fine. The problem with those ‘Milk Type’ jugs is that they almost always develope leaks over time.

"If this continues across the nation watch the states and cities establish curviews"

Oh yeah a curfew would work, that would just scare the 'bejesus' out of such punks.

And what was suppose to happen on 5/5/2000?

Because the event that FerFal talks about happening in Dec. of 2001 did happen.

Wow.

I just went on a family vacation with another family who was pretty clueless about the state we are in. My husband showed the father some youtubes of these "flash mobs" to which he promptly said, "this isn't happening in our city". We laughed and said, it's spreading like wildfire. Anywhere with large populations of Holder's people is going to see this kind of thing. Sorry but it's true.

I get a kick outta these people who use terms like ‘shrink wrap machine’ and yet think they know what ‘preppers’ do.

In a SHFT situation calling on LEO’s for help I think will end in not only not getting help you need, but actually end up with you very sorry you called.

Hubby is ex-LE and I used to work in conjunction with them but agree they're the last ones you want to call. The ones here can't so much as do a check on noise in the neighborhood much less anything worse. They screw up cases and destroy innocent people's lives to the point of suicide. No, the further away LE stays, the better even in the best of times. I'd manage without but would be a happy camper for a 15 minute warning before the electricity shuts down. Just enough time to top off the water supply the easy way. The moochers, have been making their way through my bottled water all summer ($%%#@!) so that's first on the list when they're outta here in a couple weeks. Just hold this crisis off a few more days and I'm good.

Same here. Sometimes it’s weeks between trips into town and the grocery store. It’s been months since I was in the big city.

I can tie a small container (styrofoam cup) to a string and lower it down the well pipe to scoop up water. It's a pain but it works in an emergency.

Imagine a flash-mob of 100 armed with guns.

Not to worry. After a few minutes, they'll start arguing between themselves and then begin self elimination. All will be good.

Build you one of these cheap pvc well bucket models. Just use schedule 40 pvc pipe that is smaller than the diameter of your well casing. I've got one ready to go, just in case.

Thanks for the link, it answered a question I was wondering about. That is how to keep the system from freezing in winter. One of the barns on the farm I use to have had water to the barn, high water table, turned water on from the Michigan basement (in the house) pipes were below the frost line but still needed heat tape on the pipe that come up and into the barn. (house and barn were a hundred years old, that barn was quite interesting to see. Tree's were used for the rafters and framing and they were big and still had the bark on them. It was pegged and when we put up new T-11 on two sides, the nails we pulled out to get the old siding off, the nails were hand made and square topped (iron, I think). That particular barn was the one with a hay loft. It was built to last and took some great carpenter work to put up..

Some of the old siding had shrunk over the years and on windy days snow would blow into the barn. The goats did not appreciate that...:O)
