Why Game (Meat) Is Fashionable

[Warning: Note the image above of dead birds may offend sensitive vegetarians.]

“I don’t agree with people that say English food is no good. I like wild game….and I like the pub feel,” reveals Hollywood actor, Nicolas Cage. “I put it way up high on my list.”

Of course, the pro-hunting Country Side Alliance, UK, has been promoting the joys of game, for years now. And, thanks to their Game-to-Eat campaign, wild foods are very much in fashion.

Here is one argument to start with: your health. As the Country Side Alliance asserts, “Game is wild, natural and free range and if you are looking for something low in fat and cholesterol, game is a delicious and healthy alternative to many other red meats.”

And, from Men’s Health (January 2011): “Venison is one of the leanest red meats and also has high creatine levels so your muscles will have all the fuel they need to enlarge.”

Unless they can prove themselves worthy of wild game by stalking, killing and butchering with their own hands, I don’t believe they should be allowed to consume it.

I kill and grill, btw.

That and the fact that pretty soon we’ll ALL be reduced to hunting squirrels for dinner...

Well, there is one red squirrel I have targetted here - he’s eating my vegetables from my little garden. I’ll get my harvest one way or another...

Sort of along the lines of Mark Zuckerberg? I understand the creator of Facebook set himself a challenge to kill and butcher all his own food recently. Pissed off the vegetarians, of course, but it seems like his motives were reasonable -- get more in touch with the animals he eats.

Because as Ted says, “You can’t grill it, until you kill it.”

My favorite wild meats are elk and quail.

Yeah, while he openly lobbies to eliminate all Net anonymity and establishes face scanning databases and personal dossiers on millions of people that he sells to government agencies.

Swell guy. I read that Stalin liked to pluck live chickens in front of people in order to terrorize them. Maybe Zuckerberg is trying to work up to that.

I used to take pigeons on the farm with my .22

Not much for legs or wings, but huge breasts... and these things were VERY well fed, eating corn all spring out of the wire silo.

DE-lish!!!!

How right you are. We have so many squirrels in our neighborhood we are afraid of a flash mob. I’m thinking now that may be a good thing. LOL!!

Do you really want 200 million people stalking around your woods?

Deer hunting was popular in the farming area I grew up in.
Stalking usually consisted of setting on the porch with a shotgun. Butchering usually consisted of taking it to a local butcher who would package it for the freezer. Hunting was for meat, not fun or bragging rights.

I am unemployed and my friend is a big hunter he gave me some stuff out of his freezer, in the last week I have eaten deer sausage, deer minite steak, and deer tender loin. He was on vacation last week and took me fishing and yesterday I had fresh catfish and have some in the freezer now.

Hunting IS for meat, Fun, And Braggin’ rights, and sharing with friends and family.

Nothing is finer than butterflying ‘your own’ backstrap, and processing ‘your own’ bratwurst and pan sausage.

I am my own butcher. I have issues with trusting my food with someone else.

In a small town everyone knows everyone. We trusted each other.
