I take Cozaar and Calan. I’m not sure how you classify them.

Yes.

That is your body healing.

You should expect to tire easily for the next 4- 6 weeks if not longer.

Headache, drowsiness, & confusion are signs of accelerated hypertension. Get your doc to monitor your blood pressure and adjust your dosage as necessary. When your BP is under control, the headaches, fatigue, and memory loss should significantly lessen or hopefully disappear.

If you are on blood thinners, DO NOT take Aspirin! Talk to your docs before taking any medicine, including OTC.

If I don’t like what the neurologist says, I’ll see a stroke specialist. Thank you for the great advice.

Is that all you are taking? Calan is known to mess with your memory...but not associated with headaches. I just want to make sure exactly what you ARE taking. Any anti-anxiety drugs? Freepmail me.

These health things are so different from person to person but here goes.

My Dad lives with me, he is 84. Two years ago he had what you call a mild stroke. Losing control of most of his left side for a while. Slurred speech, tired, could not swallow. Looked really bad.

Two years later he is active again, walking two miles a day, tending his garden and talking pretty normal. Fishing when he gets a chance. He has also resumed his deacon responsibilities at the church.

He was very determined. We walked and did mental/physical exercises every day. It was a slow slow process. He became very impatient and frustrated. But he kept recovering.

He is still tired and light headed, has no hot or cold sensation in his left side and his mouth droops a bit mostly when tired. He chokes/strangles easily. However....compared to where he was, his recovery is miraculous to me. Praise God.

YES I had a stroke in 1997.... couldn’t talk for two years..

Actually I could talk but gibberish came out. Not always but mostly.. The words in my head didn’t make to my mouth.. So, I talked to my dog... he didn’t understand English.. so I was not afraid to speak (to him)..

Eventually my brain re-wired itself.. First I could get a couple of words out then a sentence then two sentences.. I could trust.. Constantly checking myself.. eventually I could talk again but the same way as before.. I had to different words to express myself.. Some words would’nt make it out.. even now.. A good vocabulary is mandatory for finding the word to use as an alternate..

All this happened BUT I could use the internet and email or write legibly.. each stroke effects a different part of the brain .. Some people lose moter control of muscles.. I didn’t..

I write this to inform you that the brain can re-wire.. but it takes using the effected part.. How much you can overcome must vary.. with different people.. I talk quite successfully now.. but my Spanish and French is almost non existent.. I still remember some but not enough..

Tallyho... If you don’t “use it” you can “lose it”...
Even so I’m not the silver tongue devil I use to be..
Maybe thats a good thing..

I’m sorry for your health troubles. I have not experienced anything like a stroke so I can’t give you advice from experience. However, I must say that your post is great and shows a sign that you may be more healthy than you realize. Perhaps the greatest drug invented by man is the placebo. The reason it works so great is the power of the mind and positive thinking. You should feel very good that you survived and that you are still cognisant. Try a double dose of positive thinking and pat yourself on the back for getting this far.

Read what VikingMom writes in #26.This is serious. People on Free Republic saved me several years ago or I would not be here now. Get to a doctor. There are several good books on preventing stroke. Read them and eat good diet. You can buy a blood pressure measurement device on Amazon.com not expensive. Or clinic will check your blood pressure for nothing. See a doctor this morning. Or go to emergency room now.

Try to find a doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine, preferably one trained in China, with a decade of experience, or more.

TCM uses acupuncture and herbs, and can effect some seemingly miraculous healings. They’ve been meticulously cataloging the effects of various herbs for over 6000 years, while carefully identifying the underlying disorders which produce illnesses, and they have identified some very effective treatments.

A lot of their herbs have potent anti-inflammatory effects, neurological effects, circulatory effects, and they can vastly increase energy.

From my experience, their treatments trigger a healing of underlying metabolic, neurological, circulatory, and inflammatory disorders, rather than simply papering over symptoms.

If you had my experience with TCM, you would be frantic to find such a doc. To try it is to become a believer. Trust me, I was a skeptical as they come. Not any more.

Best of luck on a fast recovery.

I’ve read recently that sleeping with one’s head slightly higher than the rest of the body (a gentle slant of the upper body) can eleviate migrane headaches. Would it prevent another stroke? Your guess would be as good as mine.

But I look at it this way: it can’t hurt. Our heads aren’t used to being flat with the rest of our body. Taking the pressure off certainly shouldn’t hurt.
