The Wall Street Journal published a piece recently, which referred to the Tea Party as Hobbits. John McCain picked up on it, quoting it on the Senate floor, both virtually tut-tutting about these dear little souls, that just dont understand how the real world works. Pat them on the head and send them to bed. At the risk of looking a little nerdy, let me say that I loved the story as a child, and have been known to engage in a 12 hour marathon of LOTR movies with my kids. It holds enduring appeal because it contains what so many modern tales lack. It is an epic battle of good against evil. Its amusing to me that WSJ (which I love, by the way, despite this error of their ways) and Senator McCain completely missed the gist of the story that the simplicity and goodness of the Hobbits was the only character that could withstand the power of the ring...

If we are hobbits then Caligula is Saruman (George Soros being worse) and Biden is Golum. John McCain is Wormtongue. Fortunately, in the end, the Ring is destroyed and the world is saved.

Ironicly, hobbits may be the perfect analogy for tea partiers.
Small, insignificant, beings that nobody took seriously (kind of reminds you of how the political elite look down upon middle America), they were also wished harm upon noone, were friendly to everyone, true and honest, and were the only beings that could resist the the ring and remain uncorrupted by its power.
LoL!
Now that is good stuff! I think they should make a T-Shirt!
Somebody called into the Dana show (on after Rush in my market) and said the same thing.
LOL... So true. And the Hobbits WON!
Democrats + Orcs => Dorcs!
Wow! They already did! :)
By the Hobbits! I know that they were trying to make it seem that the Tea Partiers (and those of us who agree with the movement) are somehow too "small" to be able to handle the complexity of these issues. But it was the purity of heart of these Hobbits, and their perseverence which saved the rest of their world from the destructive evil of Sauron.
I'll stand with the Hobbits any day.
I am so enjoying this.
I think you may enjoy this analogy.
