"That’s why Texas took the national lead in allowing such deserving young minds to attend a Texas college at a resident rate."

No you're not the only one who has a problem with this. I simply can not support anyone who will swear to uphold the laws of his state and the country then turn around and break the law by allow illegal aliens to not only attend colleges in his state but allow them to do it at state residents tuition rates. Illegal aliens are ILLEGAL, they are breaking the law by being in this country, they are sucking the system dry, we taxpayers are paying, in far too many cases, for their food, health care, and housing. Rick Perry has no problem with this, he is an advocate for illegal aliens, and so many FReepers are supporting this man? I find that unbelievable.

What happened to if you find an illegal, a law breaker, you send them back to their own country? We know exactly where the illegals who are attending university are at because they are not only allowed to attend the Texas universities but can do so at in state costs. For those of you non Texas residents who are sending you kids to a Texas university does it not bother you that you a LEGAL resident of the USA but a resident of another state have to pony up a substantial sum over in state costs to send your LEGAL American citizen children to a Texas university? We have completely lost our collective minds in this nation and now it is infesting FR.

How any one calling themselves a conservative can support Rick Perry is way way beyond anything I could have thought possible. I know that in any group of people there will be disagreement it is the way of the world. I know that Perry has become the flavor of the month, just as a few weeks back Herman Cain was the apple of so many FReepers eye. My guess is many who were hollering about jumping on the Cain train got off at the last station and are now riding the Perry express. So be it. That is simple human emotion but when is logic going to win out over emotion? Logic dictates that a man who will allow lawbreakers to reside in his state, go to college at resident rates, and suck off the taxpayers teat for their basic sustenance is not a man who should be the President of the USA.

Perry will not get my support. For those of you who call yourselves conservative who will support this man I say do as your conscience dictates but don't try and convince me you a are conservative. You most assuredly are not.

Good post Graneros.

Listen, everyone reading this thread, and/or this post of mine now. These are the primaries. We should not be, or allow ourselves to be beholden to the “moderates/independents” opinions at this time. In fact, we have a GOLDEN opportunity in this race, unlike many others in the past, where the incumbent is sooooo disliked, even by the “precious” moderates/independents, that we literally could put up ANYone, and they would still win against Obummer.

We simply cannot squander this time foolishly clinging onto a candidate just because he looks nice in TV, or because he’s from our home state, or fir any other emotional reason. Also, because this is such a golden opportunity to ge a true conservative in the White House, we cannot be ridgid and refuse to accept VALID criticism, as posted above, be dismissed simply for emotional reasons.

We must rally behind a truly conservative candidate whoever that may be. “Electability” is simply not a concern. Not during any primary, but certainly not this one. All the Republican nominee has to do to win the general election is simply remain alive, breathing, and able to form complete sentences.

There is NO reason to compromise.

I’ve learned in life to avoid using “Never” and “Always”. There is no good reason that attempts to change the situation in Me Hee Co shouldn’t be made.

At this point I have not yet seen a “Reagan” conservative emerge. I’m watching very closely, hoping this happens.

Perry has always argued this in humanitarian terms because the children of illegal aliens should not be denied a college education because of the mistakes of their parents.

Since when is knowingly breaking the law a "mistake"?

There is NO reason to compromise.

Especially so early. Illegals are the primary reason why so many states are nearly bankrupt. Citizens have to pay taxes to support schools, whether they have children or not, but illegals get it for free. They are a tremendous drain on law abiding citizens.

If it indeed is from ten years ago, has Perry gone on record changing his opinion since then?

Well I don't see anyone posting anything to the contrary which he might have stated otherwise. I have seen on other threads alot of wiggling trying to get away from that....the typical he didn't mean excuses....but the facts do speak for themselves from the time of that speech til now.... that he is for open borders...and no fencing except where he thinks might be otherwise helpful.

Put it another way...has Rick Perry stated he's for closed borders since this article...no he has not.

My vote will go to the candidate who promises to build walls and post armed guards, starting the day after he/she takes oath. NOT ONE VOTE for any candidate who sympathizes with foreign invaders.

That's pretty much where I stand...this has got to stop...not ease them into the country as Perry seems to desire. He gladly welcomed the Muslims and now has thousands in his state..... what will happen to our country then if he's elected President?

I did before I posted anything about it. Scares the he$$ out of me. He's got the invasion highway, socialized medicine, kissing NAFTA on the lips, sucking up to the leader of the Mexican invasion - everything but sword fighting for a RINO.

I ask for the THIRD time on THIS thread all you Perryites - show me where he retracted these words on blessing the invasion.

I am waiting. Make me a beliver.

Agreed. Illegals need to get out. The word ILLEGAL immigrant should actually mean something.

The law is as clear as the word.

I have a friend that STILL has a green card and has lived here for years. He is going through the process. He is a LEGAL immigrant.
