PalinTracker: What’s Happening on September 3?

Sarah Palin to keynote September “tea party” gathering in Iowa:

The former Alaska governor will headline a major “tea party” gathering in Iowa in September, just as the Republican nomination fight begins in earnest. Tea Party of America Wednesday announced Palin’s participation in the Sept. 3 “Restoring America” event.

“We don’t need a ‘fundamental transformation’ of America. We need a restoration of all that is good and strong and free,” Palin says in the group’s news release. “The 2012 election will be a great debate between those two conflicting visions for our country.”

“Gov. Palin embodies the spirit of public service that our founders believed was essential to the survival of our liberties and our republic itself,” Charlie Gruschow, Tea Party of America’s co-founder, said in the release. “We couldn’t be more delighted to have this citizen leader who represents the values that Iowans and Americans hold so dear.”

Paul Bedard in U.S. News: Why Palin, Bachmann Have Plenty of Time for Their Kids:

GOP pollster Kellyanne Conway has an answer for those who think Palin, Bachmann, or other women with children don’t have enough time to raise them while serving in public office.

“As far as I can tell, she doesn’t have a boyfriend. So right there it frees up like 15 extra hours a week,” she says of Palin, with a swipe at the parade of male politicians caught in affairs.

“And she doesn’t play golf,” adds Conway. “That’s like seven hours every Saturday, eight hours every Sunday because there’s always a brunch involved. I just gave her 30 extra hours a week. These kids will be fine.”

Associated Press: Ethics complaint against Sarah Palin dismissed:

Alaska officials have dismissed an ethics complaint filed against former Gov. Sarah Palin that alleged she violated state law because the TLC docu-series Sarah Palin’s Alaska took advantage of a state film production incentives program she signed into law.

Just part of the relentless targeting which caused her to quit the governorship to save Alaska (and herself) the time, trouble, and funds to defend herself.

August 8

Palin at Facebook: Conquering the Storm:

Back in December 2010, I wrote: “If the European debt crisis teaches us anything, it’s that tomorrow always comes. Sooner or later, the markets will expect us to settle the bill for the enormous Obama-Pelosi-Reid spending binge. We’ve already been warned by the credit ratings agency Moody’s that unless we get serious about reducing our deficit, we may face a downgrade of our credit rating.” And again in January, in response to President Obama’s State of the Union address I wrote: “With credit ratings agency Moody’s warning us that the federal government must reverse the rapid growth of national debt or face losing our triple-A rating, keep in mind that a nation doesn’t look so ‘great’ when its credit rating is in tatters.”

One doesn’t need a Harvard Law degree to figure this out! Just look across the pond at Europe. European nations with less debt and smaller deficits than ours and with real “austerity” plans in place to deal with them have had their ratings downgraded. By what magical thinking did we figure we could run up perpetual trillion dollar deficits and still somehow avoid the unforgiving mathematics of a downgrade? Nothing is ever “too big to fail.” And there’s no such thing as a free lunch. Didn’t we all learn that in our micro and macro econ classes? I did at the University of Idaho. How could Obama skip through Columbia and Harvard without learning that?

You Can Expect the Unexpected Department:

Surprise: Palin’s bus tour to roll into Iowa this week:

After a nearly three-month hiatus, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is planning to crash the presidential party once again with a heartland-themed re-launch of her “One Nation” bus tour this week in Iowa, according to a Palin fundraising email obtained by CNN.

Palin is bringing her Constitution-themed bus to the Iowa State Fair, just 30 miles south of where the Republican presidential field will take the stage on Thursday for a presidential debate in Ames.

August 13

Riehl World View: Why Sarah Palin Needs To Run For President In 2012:

While always open to the idea of one day supporting Sarah Palin for president, since 2008, I’ve gone back and forth on whether or not I thought it was smart for her to run next year. Re-visiting my thoughts yesterday, what with Palin’s appearance in Iowa, not only am I convinced she should run, she needs to run and, regardless of one’s preferred candidate, all Conservatives should encourage her to run and welcome her into the race, assuming she does.

Put aside the purely Republican primary politics of it for a moment. Also, I’m not endorsing her, or anyone at this point. But what happened in Iowa yesterday was electric, not just for any Palin faithful, but for many Conservatives and especially the media. For better, or worse, Sarah Palin has star power — whatever that is. But she does have it; that’s for sure.

We will be back on the road soon, for on September 3rd we’ve been invited to a big Tea Party “Restoring America” rally in Waukee, Iowa. We hope to see many of you there as we gather to discuss the direction of our country and the way forward with our fundamental restoration of all that is good and strong and free in America. And the last thing our Republic can take is another pay-to-play, big government crony capitalist. To put Perry together with Congress would be a complete disaster.

The GOP would also be out on its keister again in no time. Deservedly, but even an earnest independent tea party effort would probably just put the Dems in power again.

Denial and ridicule won’t boost your candidate, my friend.

You seem to be all in, and betting the farm on a horse who’s never run a major race. Good luck with that, but I’d just try to be cautiously optimistic at this point, if I were you.

It’s very early, and the real race hasn’t even begun. We have yet to see whether Perry is a real thoroughbred.

I’ve read the transcript of that Perry speech, and it’s disturbing.

Perry supporters claim that he was speaking about a hypothetical future in which there’s no need for Mexicans to illegally cross into our country. That’s all fine and dandy, except, when Perry made that speech, such a future was scarcely imaginable. It still isn’t. That country is broken, and there’s no evidence that it will ever fix itself.

It was an ill-advised statement at best, and pandering at worst.

I’ll be happy if Palin throws her hat in the ring September 3rd.

However it’s the weekend before 9/11.

If she chooses not to compete with that anniversary, I’ll gladly wait.

Gonna shock you, I agree with you on Rick Perry.

So what's your deal? Do you just dislike all of the leading contenders, or are you leaning toward any of them?

I can't agree more. Perry has never shown the first sign of being the type of revolutionary reformer/outsider that this country needs in the White House. He knows how to play one on the campaign trail, but once he's back in office, it's back to big government, crony politics as usual.

At best, the man's a center-right Moderate. He's not a firebrand crusader who will take a wrecking ball to the establishment status quo in Washington. He'll fit right in with that culture.

LOL! "Never run a major race?!?!"

Too funny! What is your performance schedule? I'd like to catch your comedy act.

How about, not only run in a major race, but WON three of them in a row, served out 2 1/2 COMPLETE terms--hassles or no hassles, law-suits or no law suits. What has Vice-President Palin got to show . . . OH! That's right, SHE DIDN'T WIN her election bid as Veep wannabe.

Perry's got the bona fides that Palin only wishes she had. Palin's great, but she doesn't hold a candle to Perry either in the experience field or in successful campaigns.

The denial and wishful thinking are all on your side.

Yeah, I'm all in for Perry unless he fails to deliver in the debates or stumbles on something of substance, because I'm in it to defeat Obama and do so with a real conservative. Cain isn't going anywhere, Bachmann's a prima donna who is going down rapidly, Santorum has never gotten off the ground, and Palin ain't running--she's going to run for the Senate instead.

So, yeah I'm all in for Perry. He's the only rational choice.

As for me being "cautiously optimistic," don't worry, my day doesn't begin and end with Rick Perry, unlike so many of the Palinistas, I am not a cult member, I just know a good thing when I see it and I am unwilling to allow LIARS to smear him with false and erroneous information simply because they can't beat him with an affirmative defense of their own choice.

Don't you worry though, America will be far better off with President Perry and Senator Palin in office.

Yep, I’m still trusting in people to see through him once they see enough of him, but it is disturbing to see him rise in the polls like this.

Just to be perverse, I’m going to go with her not saying either “yes” or “no” just yet - but then vigorously attacking Obama and his administration as corrupt and incompetent. Just imagine her talking loudly about Gunwalker... how could the MSM ignore it, and her, then?

People will come back down to earth as they begin to sort the wheat from the chaff about Perry's record. He hasn't even begun to be vetted by the public yet, and the press is only just starting to examine his record.

We'll see how he fares when he's subjected to a full Palinoscopy.

Oh, Perry managed to beat all of the liberal Dems, RINOs, Truthers, and wack job comedians he ran against. No question about that, but it's a mighty poor endorsement of his ability to compete on a national level against solid conservatives (of which he is not).

Perry's got the bona fides that Palin only wishes she had.

Heh... Now, that's just plain funny - I don't care who you are ;-)

Perry's favorables were 60% when the race against KBH started. KBH was at 75%. He was waaay behind with women, hence the initial endorsement from Palin,

Palin's favorables with Republicans and Pubbie leaning Indies is 78%.

The past couple of years she has been telling everybody elses story. I want to see what happens when SHE gets to tell her own story.
