Fard had little, if any, black blood in him. There is another photo (mug shot) in which he looks a little more black In the 1920 census he claimed to be white, born in New Zealand.
He looks more Polynesian(Maori) than African

That seems the best bet to me that he was of polynesian extraction with some small amount of negroid genetic background.
