In the thick of the debate over President Barack Obama’s health care reform bill, administration officials ignored warnings that one of its most controversial provisions was financially unsustainable and could leave taxpayers on the hook for billions of dollars.
According to a report released Thursday by a working group of congressional investigators, officials inside the Department of Health and Human Services ignored numerous red flags about the Community Living Assistance Services and Supports program (CLASS) — and in some cases the officials went to work figuring out how to hide them.
Now, those same officials are scrambling to come up with the financing of the long-term care insurance program — the brainchild of the late Democratic Sen. Edward Kennedy of Massachusetts — which Republicans on Capitol Hill are trying to repeal.
When the Congressional Budget Office scored the program, analysts said it would account for $70 billion in deficit reduction over ten years. However, that was because those enrolled in the program won’t be able to start receiving benefits until five years into that ten-year period.

We have reached the point where the best starting position is to assume that our government is lying to us on virtually anything of importance to the left. A country where the populace views its government as a deceitful and oppressive force is unstable in the long term.

That’s how the entire bill was rigged to come out looking cheap. Anyone who actually thought it was deficit-neutral or deficit-reducing was a moron. Oh, okay, maybe not deficit-neutral this year, but eventually. And certainly not debt-neutral, no matter how you add it up.

Actually, I and others assumed all along that it would reduce costs eventually. That is, by destroying the healthcare industry as we know it and replacing it with Soviet-style rationing.
In the short-term, yes, no intelligent non-loon seriously thought it would reduce costs. How could it? A whole half of the plan was to cover more people. How do you cover more people and make it cost less? By controlling supply, hence rationing. Also by “spreading the wealth around,” which of course involves raising costs. But only on those Fat Cats that nobody likes anyway.

Well, I hope you’re right, but I thought the silver lining of 911 would be that we would finally do something about that southern border, but instead they kept getting up there every day lying, misleading, and firing back at people who only wanted to live in a country where the rule of law means something.
Whoever gets in there is going to have to let the big boys fall, and that is NOT going to be pretty. But the bailouts have to stop because they’re supporting something that is unsupportable.
