Skip to comments. On immigrant tuition, Marco Rubio sounds like a Rick Perry man

U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, whom every presidential candidate would love to have as a running mate, sounds a lot like a Rick Perry supporter when it comes to the issue of tuition help for immigrants who grew up in the United States long after they were brought here illegally.
"I think theres general consensus behind the idea that we need to do something to help out kids who were brought here by our parents longtime ago and who have grown up in this country," Rubio said a few weeks ago, echoing comments and sentiments he made on the campaign trail last year.
I do think that we need to figure out how we accommodate kids who have something to contribute to our nations future. Whether its serving in the armed forces or going on to college and graduated who have basically lived most of their lives (here), he said.
"I would say the vast majority of Americans would say that doesnt feel right," to deport or deny education help to a person in a case where "youre going to go to college and youre a good student and youre valedictorian of your school or youre going to go into the military," Rubio said. "Weve got to figure something out. And thats what were in the process of trying to do."
When Rubio was the state Legislature he supported legislation similar to one that Perry has caught flak for.
There was a Florida bill," Rubio said. "It was pretty limited to a number of people, you had to have a certain GPA. It was very limited in scope. ...

He may be great on everything else, but I can never support Rubio for his position on illegal immigration.
DUCK FOR COVER! Incoming!!!!!
Only if he's a threat to Mitt Romney.
did he also call conservatives who disagree racists and heartless?
Although I wouldn’t vote for him either.
Is he running for something right now?
Why should it cause heads to explode? Rubio’s reaction right out of the box re: Arizona’s law, during the Florida primary process, was that Arizona was wrong. He backtracked and shuffled his way out of it, but even then, it was obvious that the great mass of people behind Rubio had been fooled again, backing a nice, clean, quietly fake conservative over an orange, clearly fake conservative.
At what point do conservatives get to have a candidate who has all the right moves as our nominee? Why do American conservatives put up with this crap from the GOP, which takes evident glee in sneaking these silent snakes into elective office? He’s arguably better than Crist would have been (so far, so good), but I still think it’s reasonable to expect Rubio to turn into the next Martinez by the time his term concludes. Why would he do otherwise, with the negligible repercussions it’s had on the free traitor and open borders types who’ve stabbed America in the back time and again?
Danger, Will Robinson!
RINO? Say it ain’ so! Not the posterboy of the Tea Party?
Anyone with that opinion must be a no count RINO.
There are some grown ups out there, aren’t there. The spoiled class is loud, chest pumped and anathema to every thing for which the USA stands, to the reality of her founding and certainly to Christian principles towards human sensitivity. Would hate to try and fight WWII with some. You know, sharing a fox hole with an illegal and all. /s
We can lose the general election on the hypocrisy and if we don’t clean it up, we may. Not every American voter was raised in a pasture like some of us, and get the difference between cut throats, La Raza Marxists, and just plain folks. It’s time to get a grip on a government who has spent now decades ignoring the illegal entry for the sake of a workforce, but then turns into Simon Lagree and wants to send them wholesale back to Mexico because they are trapped in both the system and the new found delays of applying for citizenship because of the gun runners, cartels, and our self imposed economic woes.
I know who used the word heartless but I'm unaware of who used the word racist?
Zombie caterpillars RULE!!!!
“but I still think its reasonable to expect Rubio to turn into the next Martinez by the time his term concludes.”
Oh, good. Let’s do another circular firing squad on another electable Republican who can put away the Marxists.
GAD. The DK and DU, whatever that means, will love this stuff, as well as Valerie Jarrett. Next?
I had a bet with Freepers a year ago that he is a RINO. At least he didn;t call us “heartless” like Rico Perry.
Sounds perfectly logical coming from someone who was born a citizen of Cuba.
He said we don’t like illegals because their names sound different than ours. Second debate I think.
That is the same phrase lefties use to call people racists.
Illegal immigration will destroy this country if tough measures are not implemented soon.
California is the future. Texas and Florida will follow.
Rubio could not win California today. No conservative can, not even a Hispanic.
If we keep pandering to the illegals and dragging our feet on the measures needed to return this country to the rule of law, it will soon be gone.
Time is on the side of the Democrats.
That seems to ring a bell.
“Oh, good. Lets do another circular firing squad on another electable Republican who can put away the Marxists. GAD. The DK and DU, whatever that means, will love this stuff, as well as Valerie Jarrett. Next?”
It’s all about defending the faith with you people. Every time a previously silent official goes on the record as an open borders, pro-illegal and suffers the consequences, suddenly, it’s “oh, you people have to complain about something.” As if we wouldn’t have complained if you’d given an opportunity during the primary. Rubio made this noise back then, but your song and dance then was “no, he’s addressed this, it was just a misstatement.” Then, it was “shuddup before you get Crist elected.” Now, it’s “shuddup and let him vote for an amnesty already.”
As if electing a single pro-American, anti-illegal candidate to the Senate would be such a travesty, such a miscarriage. Americans want these illegals out by overwhelming numbers. Somehow they never seem to be represented.
Rubio is apparently on everyone's short list for V.P., and so far I like what I have seen of him, but he needs to clearly state his position on providing free/reduced cost tuition to illegal immigrants.
There is no ideal candidate and no candidate I agree with 100% of the time. I will support conservatives who I can find agreement with on the vast majority of issues.
If a conservative candidate supports a strong military, lower taxes and less spending, limited govt, entitlement reform and is pro-life, pro-gun, pro-marriage, pro-family, pro-Constitution and opposes blanket amnesty, I can vote for that individual any day of the week.
Supports a path to citizenship, but no amnesty for illegals
Q: Should undocumented immigrants all should be deported?
A: There is no way that in the US we would roundup every illegal immigrant—there are about 12 million of the illegal immigrants—not only economically is that just an impossibility but that’s not a humane way anyway to deal with the issue.
Q: Do you then favor an amnesty for the 12 million undocumented immigrants?
A: No, I do not. Not total amnesty. You know, people have got to follow the rules. We have got to make sure that there is equal opportunity and those who are here legally should be first in line for services being provided and those opportunities that this great country provides.
Q: So you support a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants?
A: I do because I understand why people would want to be in America. To seek the safety and prosperity, the opportunities, the health that is here. It is so important that yes, people follow the rules so that people can be treated equally and fairly in this country.

My American name is close, but not quite, the Gaelic.
Blend in, try your guts out.
When your guts fail, try harder... (you dirty f%%%ing Mick)
And then call yourself an American.
He’s ineligible for one thing.
” DUCK FOR COVER! Incoming!!!!! “
Hard to believe some of these are the same ones who pledge their chest to Israel but are more than willing to give the treatment to Mexican families who have lived here for now generations because the US government failed to enforce, needed them for a workforce, and now wants to train rail them back to a country they don’t even know. This is the radical hypocrisy that can/is/will/shall come back to bite us in large chunks in the general election if Obama can sell it. He just bit into his biggest threat on the JOBS issue, Rick Perry, who is the only one running on JOBS, has an actual record on JOBS, can do JOBS and understands the mood of the electorate for JOBS, not chill bumps.
Immigrants want more vocational training & senior assistance
Q: The state has seen big growth of minority and immigrant populations, specifically Latinos & Southeast Asians. What sort of outreach has your campaign done?
A: I have reached out to all these communities and asked them to identify their needs. Their response has been for more vocational training, senior assistance, ending gang violence, and more state outreach and communication with their communities. One of the key components of my internal campaign is a diversity task force. I turn to them often.

Try the Rush Limbaugh solution. Try deporting 3 million.
Let’s start with the Muslims who have overstayed their visas and are engaged in marriage fraud and let’s see how this sends a message.
All vice presidential candidates agree to support the policies of the top of the ticket, like it or not.
When and if she decides to run as a presidential candidate in her own right, she can tell us her real position on the issues.
“If the GOP fields a Presidential candidate that supports tax payer funded subsidies to illiegal alien students, or a pathway to amnesty (no matter what words they use), I WILL NOT BE VOTING FOR PRES IN 2012.”
Oh, no, you must be a heartless racist. /sarc I guess there are a lot of us or there wouldn’t be so many Perry posts here trying to salvage his battered candidacy.
“Sounds perfectly logical coming from someone who was born a citizen of Cuba.”
Uh... no, he wasn’t. He was born in this country. That makes him a citizen of this country.
If his parents weren’t citizens of this country at the time he was born, then he would not be a “natural born” citizen. But he would be a U.S. citizen.
Lets try to keep our facts and our terms straight, shall we?
With so many RINOs running around, I’m starting to doubt that title.
Maybe they are all republicans, and it is I who am not.
Don’t know anymore, can’t harldy recognize anything, especially America.
All I can say is, I’m glad I knew her when I did, and this part, watching her destroyed from within...hurts.
Those where not Perry's words.
” Americans want these illegals out by overwhelming numbers. “
No they don’t. I hear they just want Sarah Palin in by overwhelming numbers. Our immigration system is NOT broken, it’s just not been enforced. For decades. Period. Well, it is now, a little, since the WON has rocketed the number of the bad guys back to Mexico in record numbers, reportedly.
California is the future. Texas and Florida will follow. If we lose Texas, Florida, or SCOTUS it is OVER.
I think you are right, interesting that Obama is mentioning him by name. Shows a real weakness on BamBam's part.
Well, you’re in good company. So far Rush is a RINO, Savage is a RINO, now Rubio (the TeaParty darling) is a RINO, Rick Perry is a RINO. I can’t think of anyone except a handful of people who are not RINOs. It’s become meaningless.
Obama wants us to believe that all Republicans are RINOs...
If a conservative candidate supports a strong military, lower taxes and less spending, limited govt, entitlement reform and is pro-life, pro-gun, pro-marriage, pro-family, pro-Constitution and opposes blanket amnesty, I can vote for that individual any day of the week.I would gladly vote for a candidate like that, or as close to that as can be had.
IF you'd rather NOT be pinged FReepmail me.
IF you'd like to be added FReepmail me. Thanks.
Obama wants us to believe that all Republicans are RINOs...The meaning of "RINO" has been distorted to mean imperfect conservative. John McCain is smiling.
“[Americans don’t want illegals out,] I hear they just want Sarah Palin in by overwhelming numbers.”
You’ve been listening to the wrong voices in your head, then. Americans want illegals sent home first. From ABC polling: 68 percent say it is extremely important or very important to halt the flow of illegal immigrants into the country, and 67 percent say it is extremely or very important to develop a plan to deal with about 12 million illegal immigrants in the USA...Eighty percent of all respondents are very or somewhat concerned that allowing illegal immigrants to stay in the USA might encourage others to move here illegally.”
“Our immigration system is NOT broken, its just not been enforced. For decades. Period. Well, it is now, a little, since the WON has rocketed the number of the bad guys back to Mexico in record numbers, reportedly.”
It’s been broken since anchor babies were dreamed up by the SCOTUS. Obama doing the national version of Rick Perry, overtly coddling illegals at the federal level, is just the icing on the cake. And the American people know it’s broken. Even the Slimes admits that: “Just 8 percent of Americans said the immigration system needed only minor changes. The vast majority said it needed reworking, including 44 percent who said it needed to be completely rebuilt and 45 percent who said it needed fundamental changes.”
Since when did you get appointed to become the judge of what are Christian principles? IF your principles are for law breaking and then require US to fund health care and education for the law breakers then you are clueless about what Christ taught.
Sometimes I think we conservatives are the RINOs and the Country Club Republicans are the “Real” Republicans.
They seem to hold most of the dang cards, sometimes.
Is that like being not totally pregnant?
1.a general pardon for offenses, especially political offenses, against a government, often granted before any trial or conviction.
2.Law . an act of forgiveness for past offenses, especially to a class of persons as a whole.
3.a forgetting or overlooking of any past offense.
With no fines or penalties, not deporting them IS AMNESTY!
