President Barack Obama did a little campaigning in West Hollywood recently. For anyone who doesnt already know West Hollywood is Gay Central, a bit like a Gayborhood of the West Coast. Not only was the event telling of how hes been wooing votes these days, but it showcases just how important the gay vote could turn out to be for the president as he seeks his second term amid rather dismal satisfaction ratings.
And while less than half of the public at large may actually be pleased with the job Obamas doing, many LGBT people couldnt be happier. While Obama was a slow starter on gay issues from the get go (that famous statement of his about marriage being between a man and a woman will surely haunt him), hes probably been the most proactively pro-gay president in history. Not only does he deserve a certain amount of credit for a few big strides, like repealing Dont Ask, Dont Tell, opposing DOMA, and pushing for visitation rights for same-sex couples in hospitals in states that dont allow marriage, but he seems to have made a turnaround when it comes to LGBT issues.
And thats likely a smart political strategy.
As Obama forges his re-election campaign, he has quite a few hoops to jump through to convince the American public that he deserves another chance. And with issues like the economy and unemployment on the minds of many, that wont be easy.
The GOP primary is also using the president as a bit of a punching bag, calling him everything from a socialist to a heathen (and thats why the options among Republicans this time around are so darn grim for gay voters).
A big question gay voters need to ask is whether they think Obama is in it for the long haul, and whether if elected to a second term will he finally make the big step and talk about same-sex marriage. Its a controversial issue that he will likely sidestep in his re-election bid (alienating moderate voters and all). But if he is, indeed, re-elected which is looking possible despite public angst hell need to do more than troll for votes in heavily LGBT communities. The people who will or will not put him into office deserve as much. Because while many voters have all but turned their backs on Obama, the gay community still seems to be standing in solidarity, especially if you consider his recent interactions with the LGBT constituency.
And if you have any question at all about who to vote for, consider whether a Bachmann, Romney or Perry (and possibly Palin) even know where West Hollywood is. Because while Obama may not be perfect, hes a heck of a lot more promising for the gay community than presidential hopefuls who pin their campaigns on Jesus.
Obama is a part of the LGBT vote.
As Fruity as a Banana split.
Gays and Lesbians Against Obama bumper sticker
GLBT Americans are tired of inequality
Barack Obama promised to overturn Don’t Ask Don’t Tell. He hasn’t. Instead, Obama has defended the infamous Defense of Marriage Act, which makes discrimination against homosexual Americans required by federal law. Barack Obama thinks he can take GLBT Americans for granted. Show him that he’s wrong with this Gays and Lesbians Against Obama bumper sticker

The democrats throw everyone in groups and special intrests. then they call the Republican party racist, homophobic and whatever else. A platform that puts the intrests of one group of free people over another group of free people is not a platform based on freedom.
I am sure there are gay and lesbian people out there who can’t stand Barack Obama and wouldn’t vote for the guy even if hell freezed over.
disgust the other 99% of the country and see how that does.
Intolerant anti-Christian bigots.

He had them at “Larry Sinclair”...
Such drama queens. I can go visit anybody who'll welcome me in the hospital. So can gay people. Goofballs.
Um. Aside from Bristol being on “Dancing With The Stars”, some guys in WeHo hanged a Palin effigy as part of their Halloween decorations in 2008. I bet Sarah has a general idea of where Weest Hollywood is.
There's a growing libertarian, fiscally conservative element. We've seen it in exit polls where W pulled 20% but GOP candidates pulled roughly one-third in 2010.
I've talked to gays in many parts of the country.
Folks are sick of speeches. Some are unemployed or their friends are. Others are watching investments vanish. Another returned a DNC solicitation letter telling them where to stick it. They are sick of Washington.
Some of them are watching the GOP debates to see what's offered.
For these folks, DADT is noise in the background of crushing economic factors.
She's part of the "welcoming and diverse gay community" which demands conformity and part of that conformity is a rejection of faith for atheism.
That whole agenda turns off many they claim to represent.

Homosexuals are at most 2% of the population and they don't all vote leftist, some probably don't vote at all. So their voting for him means nothing at all. They're just hoping that leftists in general who have the "gay" agenda as a pet will feel sorry for the sex perverts and vote for Zero in sympathy.
