On eve of debate, Rick Perry ‘pretty confident’ he’ll win
Houston Chronicle ^ | LYNN SHERR, Parade Magazine interview - Oct 23 issue

Posted on 10/11/2011 2:45:11 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

...LYNN SHERR: Do you feel as if the other candidates have been ganging up on in the debates?

RICK PERRY:“When you come into the fray and you’re leading in the polls, you’re going to get attacked by everyone. I get it. I’m a big boy, and I know how to play that game. “

Your critics say you’re not electable...

“Well, I disregard that. Americans are looking for somebody to stand up and tell them the truth, and I have a record to back it up. Ultimately, if I can explain my heart, my jobs record, and my philosophy to Americans, I’m pretty confident that I’ll win.”

You’re a very successful fund-raiser....The word that’s been applied to you is “cronyism.”...

“That’s the same old, tired criticism which comes when people don’t want to talk about the real issues, like how do we create jobs......"Decisions in Texas are generally legislative, with the lieutenant governor, speaker, and governor making them together. There were no unilateral decisions from my office dealing with those issues. And I’ll go back to my record. I’ve been elected three times as governor. The people obviously have confidence in me.”

Your wife, Anita Perry,....

“She’s very smart and loyal. She’s not predisposed to be a public figure since she saw how her father, a small-town doctor, had to be shared with all these other people. She’s also a great patriot. “

Some of our recent presidents have admitted to experimenting with drugs...

“No, ma’am. Not unless you call caffeine a drug. Or cold beer or whiskey.”....

Pinky Downs shouted, "what are we going to do to those Horned Frogs other GOP candidates?" ...

"Gig 'em!"

It's beyond denial that Perry severely damaged his image with the "No Heart" comment. Most of that support will not return. What will be telltale of his supporters is whether they turn to RINO romney or to the more conservative Herman Cain.

As the lower tier candidates drop out, I expect conservatives to rally around Cain, since romney is forever disqualified by his nazi healthcare law.

If I said to you, “Have a heart,” would you say I was calling you heartless?

Perry said, “if you don’t want to allow children brought to this country illegally — through no fault of their own — to pay instate tuition, you don’t have a heart. [paraphrased but has the “heart” part]

However, saying he used the word “heartless,” is in vogue -- just like RINO.

He has apologized for saying it. He didn’t say, “if anyone misunderstood....” He said it was inappropriate.

[Perry: “I was probably a bit over-passionate by using that word and it was inappropriate,” Perry admitted. “In Texas in 2001 we had 181 members of the legislature – only four voted against this piece of legislation – because it wasn’t about immigration it was about education.”]

Don't mess with Texas....????????? Really....then Texas needs to quit crying out for the tax payers monies and intervention in Perrys failed policies on immigration and the border wars....Americans are sick and tired of Perry demanding more and more money to "secure" his border.....he's had years to curtail the events and happenings of which are now playing out in full to the detriment of this entire nation!

CLOSE the dang border! Clean up the mess!

Rick Perry wants the border sealed. Always has.

Go talk to the Feds.

Texas is holding its shoulder against the open border door and you’re sitting up north blaming us.

Your over the top characterization of this being Gov. Perry’s fault is wrong headed and uninformed.

It’s not “his” border. It is yours too.

You complain about the entitlement queens sucking the dem teat, yet expect Texas taxpayers to keep the brown skinned out for you?

Grow up.

Perry himself has said that a fence would just be circumvented, and he's right, as long as all the incentives remain for illegal immigration. So how does Perry stand on those incentives?

Perry stands for taxpayer-subsidized tuition for people who are violating the law by being here.

Perry is against the most effective measure to discourage employment of illegals: eVerify.

Jaime Ricardo "Rick" Perry takes his positions not because of "heart," but because 1) he is a hack career politician willing to pander to Hispanics and 2) he is backed by the moneyed elitists who want cheap labor, legal or not.

Any Herman Cain supporters......

Can you justify this? LINKED to video in Post #31

Herman Cain: “The role of government, in my view, is to maintain an equal balanced playing field for the citizens and for our society. Not to throw it out of balance.”

He nailed your idol to a “T.”

He made a post and we'll see how he backs it up with facts.

Since you are avoiding (about 4 times now on this thread) my question about this Herman Cain quote:

“The role of government, in my view, is to maintain an equal balanced playing field for the citizens and for our society. Not to throw it out of balance.”

3:30 into discussion: Herman Cain on John Stossel Show, Fox News

I will answer it. Herman Cain statement about the role of government no different that Obama's redistribution of wealth --- Maintaining an equal balanced playing field for the citizens and for our society ----- is SOCIALISM.

So don't tell me how conservative Herman Cain is.

I believe in equal rights...
I really don’t understand what the balanced playing field requires.

Sounds like giving extra points to the weaker team on the field.

Why don’t you actually read the post instead of endlessly spamming FR with La Raza Rick propaganda ?

Hear, hear! It's so tiring! I'm sick of those that refuse to see the damage to our country La Raza and illegals are doing!

Heartless, indeed! ppffftttt

Although these are not really debates, we’ll see how well Perry can do against the Cain and Romney tag team. I look for him to ignore Cain, attack Obama and Romney.

His latest Romney ad is brutal. Let’s hope he keeps up the pressure.
