Glenn Interviews Dad of TX Girl Who Refused to Recite Mexican Pledge in Class
The Blaze ^ | 17 October, 2011 | Jonathon M. Seidl

Posted on 10/18/2011 3:05:09 AM PDT by Watchdog85

The Blaze’s exclusive story on the McAllen, TX high school that assigned students the task of memorizing and reciting the Mexican national anthem and pledge of allegiance grabbed headlines across the blogosphere on Monday. It naturally grabbed the attention of many parents. On Monday morning, then, Glenn interviewed the father behind the story, William Brinsdon. William’s daughter, Brenda, is the 15-year-old girl who refused to participate in the assignment and recorded it.

“So you’re in a Spanish class and you have to sing the National Anthem of Mexico,” Glenn began, explaining the controversy’s nuances. “You have a problem with that. All right. Then you’re asked to recite the Pledge of Allegiance. You have a problem with that. Well, yeah. I’m not pledging my allegiance to Mexico. But you‘re told not to worry about it because the words don’t ‑‑ they’re just words. They don’t mean anything. Well, then so now I‘m insulting Mexicans and Mexico because now I’m just devaluing the words of their pledge? Something’s not right, and it’s happening down in Texas. A girl came home, told her father about it in Spanish class. She didn’t do it. Dad’s on the phone with us now.”

William described how he was surprised when Brenda told him about the assignment, how he contacted several school officials and never got any promised calls back, and even revealed another disturbing case of some shocking claims.

“The indoctrination of this stuff is going on all the time down here,” he said. “And also last year she was told in her Spanish class that this land was stolen from Mexico, yada, yada, was told to be quiet through the class.”

That time, the Brinsdons didn’t stand up. This time they did.

“I’ll tell you I think that you are just one of very, very many that are going to start standing up and just not ‑‑ and just not sitting down anymore,” Glenn told the father. “But you’re going to feel awfully alone there for a while because I know. I hear it from people all the time: ‘Hey, thank goodness for ‑‑ thank goodness for you saying something,’ [And I ask], ‘Are you going to say something?’ [They respond] ‘No, I ‑‑ no, I got a big bank job. I can’t say anything. No, I can’t.’ Oh, okay, all right.”

According to William, the practice has since stopped. But in our original interview with Brenda, she said that while her class was no longer memorizing the pledge and anthem, students in other sections were.

Kudos to this teen girl for refusing. I can only imagine the grief that some of her fellow classmates gave her over this. The school’s response that the Mexican Anthem was “only words”... is beyond infuriating to me.

The following is a comment I posted on another thread about this topic:

If Texans are clueless about the horrific damage that socialist-funded, compulsory, and godless government schooling is doing to their communities, then it is hopeless for the rest of the nation.

If **Texans** can't see that government schooling must be abolished then, I do think our future as a representative republic is doomed.

I am very discouraged.

I´ve been in Mexico most of my adult life, and I have NEVER heard or seen of a Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of Mexico. Someone is making up a story!!! There is no such thing in the Mexican schools, only the hymn, and it can only be sung and displayed with certain protocol requirements, and htis only about 3 or 4 times a year at events..Not in daily school life.

Get a grip.

Your school is what you make of it.

Elect a conservative board. Start and support bible and pro-life student clubs. Teach your kids to stand up for their beliefs in the classroom, and as parents, challenge mushy-headed teachers as they catch your attention.

We’ve done all of the above, and our schools continue to be great.

If yours are too far gone, or you’re living in a liberal mecca, move or look at private schools. But don’t tell the rest of us to throw up our hands and cry for our country.

I used to have great respect for Texans...Don’t mess with Texas and all that stuff. I’ve come to realize they’ll lie down for anything (forced vaccinations, illegal alien college tuition). And this they’ll take too.

You don't know the half of it.

It’s far more likely that the battle of San Jacinto II will happen before Lexington-Concord II.

This Texan really does not care how many NBPs I have to cap, or how many LaRaza carcasses I kick off of my bayonet.

Rebellion against tyrants is obedience to God.

Thanks, rovenstinez.

What about the silly extended arm salute the video showed? What was _that_? Can you translate the audio from the video?

http://www.theblaze.com/stories/blaze-exclusive-tx-high-school-students-made-to-recite-mexican-national-anthem-pledge-of-allegiance/

I must say, the few shots of the students, all of whom seemed to be Mexican, showed boredom and disrespect, considering this is an anthem and a pledge. The one boy had his left hand in his pocket the entire time, was jittering around in front of the class and couldn’t keep his arm up for the salute. The two others I saw looked resistant. One girl with her arm folded across her chest, another student slouched low in their seat did not seem proud or respectful.

If these students represent the de facto occupation of our country by Mexican anchor babies/illegals, Mexico has a problem.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Do you or a close family member work for the socialist ( single-payer) government schools? ( Just wondering.)

It is impossible to fix godless socialism. **ALL** ( yes, all) socialist government schools in this nation are godless and socialist-funded. All of them. All the ills and dysfunction that come with socialist and godless programs in any country or economic system can NOT be fixed!

Simply by attending a socialist government school children learn that the government has enormous police power to take money from a neighbor to pay for their tuition-free indoctrination ( oops! “schooling”). Well?...( Is a “duh” needed here?) ...If government, through threats of police action, can take money for tuition-free schooling, why not thousands of other free things? Franklin D. Roosevelt, and now Obama, weren't accidents. They were the direct result of several generations of Americans being made to feel comfortable with socialism by attending SOCIALIST, single-payer, schools!

Next, **your** government schools teach everything from a godless worldview. If they aren't they are breaking the law. Children in your godless socialist schools **will** learn to think and reason godlessly. They **must** merely to cooperate in the godless classroom.

And...If your teachers and principals in your socialist and godless schools are sneaking in a little Christianity, they are indeed teaching two important lessons: Christians are SNEAKY and Christians break the law!

Finally, you state, “Your ( socialist and godless) school is what you make of it.”

What? Are you urging me to use government police threat to **FORCE** my religious, political, and cultural worldview on **other** people's children? How can that possibly be **conservative** ????? Huh? Geeze! And, you say I need to get a “grip”? !

Solution: Begin the process of privatizing universal K-12 education. If charters, vouchers, and tax credits can help build the private infrastructure needed then I support this...but...the goal should be the complete separation of school and state. Parents pay for their own children's education. Charity takes care of the poorest.

Socialist government schooling is a First Amendment and freedom of conscience abomination and must be abolished.

What do they do in German class? Do they repeat this oath?

"Ich schwöre bei Gott diesen heiligen Eid, daß ich dem Führer des Deutschen Reiches und Volkes Adolf Hitler, dem Oberbefehlshaber der Wehrmacht, unbedingten Gehorsam leisten und als tapferer Soldat bereit sein will, jederzeit für diesen Eid mein Leben einzusetzen." Die Vereidigung der Wehrmacht auf Adolf Hitler, 2.8.1934

It's only "words".

("I swear by God this sacred oath that to the Leader of the German empire and people, Adolf Hitler, supreme commander of the armed forces, I shall render unconditional obedience and that as a brave soldier I shall at all times be prepared to give my life for this oath.")

Your county's godless and socialist schools are not great. The following is not “great”. It is EVIL!

1) Simply by attending children **will** learn to think and reason godlessly. They **must** just to cooperate within the godless classroom, read and understand the godless textbooks, and complete the godless assignments.

2) Simply by attending children learn that the government has enormous police power to take money from a neighbor to pay for tuition-free socialist schooling. Well?...If government can use police threat to give kids socialist schooling, why not thousands of other socialist stuff?

On thread topic: If the Spanish teacher wants to teach Mexican patriotism, I have a better idea for the vehicle for it. Require the students to memorize Mexico's immigration laws!

That would provoke thought, and understanding of Mexican patriotism!

On topic of abolition of government schooling, what is your take on khanacademy.org?
It looks to me like Mr. Khan is building the killer app for homeschooling - or at a minimum, has drawn a template of what that killer app will one day be. Maybe others can do what he is doing, better than he can. But why aren't they doing it?
After all, it's for the children.

You can’t even sing “Deutschland Uber Alles” in Germany anymore.

They had the sense to ban that kind of Xenophobic fascism like the US should with the fascist system of the Koranimals.

Mr. Kahn is going to be the next Mark Zuckerman. He's got a great idea. What's needed now are certifiable and highly reliable qualifying exams so that students can prove to colleges, universities, the military, businesses, the government socialist schools, and others, that they have, indeed, mastered the material. Perhaps Mr. Kahn is already working on that.

Also...I think your idea of memorizing the Mexican immigration law is a *great** idea. (Sitting here chuckling. )

You can’t even sing “Deutschland Über Alles” in Germany anymore.

"Das Lied der Deutschen" (Deutschland Über Alles) is still Germany's national anthem, but you're only supposed to sing the third verse, which is about unity, law and freedom.
