I was leafing through one of those high end glossy magazines - the kind that sell expensive clothing, jewellery and watches - and noticed a strange pattern. Most of the female models, the ones who were smiling (or pouting) had buck teeth.

mods for gawdsakes can you please enforce the “all threads on chicks must have pics” rule!
OMG!!!! LOL!
I would take those teeth if I could sing like him!
“My 14 year old daughter has an overbite and we dont have the money to get her braces.”
Find the money to get your daughter braces. If you have to, quit dinking around on this blog and get yourself a second, or third job....
OK, but Freddie rules...
Thank you for the best laugh of the day - I needed that;)
Ummmmmm, do you know where those teeth have been???
Still laughing....thanks!! Those pics are hysterical.
They have a slight overbite, not buck teeth. Most of them have had rather expensive orthodontia to produce that effect.
What they also have is a short upper lip that reveals the upper incisors. Babies and children tend to have a short upper lip, and as we age our upper lips get longer; hence, a model who has a shorter upper lip and reveals her upper incisors when she parts her lips is perceived by the viewer as being younger (= nubile, = fertile, = sexy). Someone whose upper lip is longer, even if she is the same age, runs the risk of looking angry when she leaves her mouth open slightly. So model agencies and their clients prefer to use models with this look.
—The OTTB mare, who used to date some photographers in the fashion industry. Don’t get me started.
The stubble look somehow doesn’t look so good with white mixed in with dark hair.
I know a young woman in her 30s who paid for her own dental work, starting about 8 years ago. I just saw her 2 weeks ago for the first time in a couple of years and she looks fabulous, with even teeth. She had incisors that didn’t descend completely, plus the rest of her teeth were noticeably misaligned. She may also have had veneers, but her teeth now look perfect. When she was a teen, she was an unremarkable girl, physically, gangly and shy. She and her siblings had a very poor childhood. Today, she could be a model, although she actually is an RN in charge of a large home health care operation. One sibling is not doing as well, but still managed to complete her National Guard stint, while the other is employed by a major corporation that is also paying for him to complete his PhD.
This woman paid for her own education, as well. She is now doing quite well, all on her own. Her boyfriend is also totally self-made, drives a paid-for Porsche, lives in a paid-for home on a decent sized property and he and his brother have just hired their parents to work in their business.
Tell your daughter to start saving, because not only do people notice, but misalignments cause other problems, later on.
Well done!
VERY well done!!
Thank you. :^D
I know and agree, I was trying for a little humor. The effect is exactly as you say: the image of youth, barely out of her teens (or not yet out), fresh and sexy. I just thought it was curious because the "look" is almost all the same. I'm rather more curious about the unshaven male look. Since I don't look at men as sex objects, I wonder who decides that this look is particularly attractive to either men or women. It may be tested and it may be a byproduct of some Hollywood actor's look, but since I don't go to movies or watch much in the way of TV films, I was curious.
For some reason, the moderator took my picture down, which was a shame. It didn't show anything you don't see on the beach every day. And her teeth were beautiful!
P.S. On many European beaches you see a lot more.
Let's see, if I stop spending 20 minutes a day on FR, that would free me up about 2 hours and 20 minutes per week for a job. What a GREAT idea!!!!! Why didn't I think of that?
“did he suck his thumb or.....”
“don’t go there”
It’s attractive in a way, but impractical. In a photograph I like the look, but in real life when I encounter a man like this I’m dismayed and wonder if he’s trying unsuccessfully to grow a beard, if he hasn’t slept for four days, or if he’s just an ad agency exec/hippie wannabe/male model/gay guy. I certainly don’t want him kissing me, as that stubble will turn my face to hamburger. A neat, clean beard is okay, since it’s soft, but the stubble thing does not work.
It seems a bit dated, since the guy who popularized the look, Don Johnson from Miami Vice, got this started many years ago. Today the starter beard is there to indicate that the model is an adult male and not a sulking teenage boy.
“Why didn’t I think of that?”
Beats me. Why didn’t you think of that?
So they just avoid profile shots.
