In 2010 Alabama Democrat Artur Davis left Congress taking his 7% American Conservative Union voting record with him. As a member of the Congressional Black Caucus he was a reliable knee jerk liberal who voted for and against Bills that would either help Americas enemies or hurt Americas people.
While in a state of total delusion Davis believed his lifetime 22% ACU rating could get him elected governor of Alabama.
When reality tapped him on the shoulder, Davis left elective politics and went to be a Washington D.C, lawyer. Given his record, it is a refreshing surprise to note his 180 degree change of heart on the question of stricter voter ID laws.
Some excerpts from a Davis wrote to the Montgomery Advertiser follow.
Ive changed my mind on voter ID laws I think Alabama did the right thing in passing one and I wish I had gotten it right when I was in political office.
When I was a congressman, I took the path of least resistance . for an African American politician. Without any evidence to back it up, I lapsed into the rhetoric of various partisans and activists who contend photo identification to vote is a suppression tactic aimed at thwarting black voter participation.
. wholesale manufacture of ballots, at the polls and absentee, in parts of the Black Belt Voting the names of the dead, and the nonexistent, and the too-mentally-impaired to function, cancels out the votes of citizens who are exercising their rights thats suppression by any light.
If you doubt it exists, I dont; Ive heard the peddlers of these ballots brag about it, Ive been asked to provide the funds for it, and I am confident it has changed at least a few close local election results.

Sounds like he actually gets it.
Where’s the Congressional White Caucus?
He gets it!
Sounds like Hispanic voters passed black voters in his district. That always brings ‘em around.
I heard him interviewed on local talk radio this morning. Interesting interview.
If I see the host post the audio, I’ll link it later.
More important he doesn’t appear to be blaming anyone else.
I am surprized there aren’t more folks, especially those who have been on the inside, that do not see the light.
Sounds like he wants to get back into politics. Who holds his old seat? Could we offer him the GOP nomination for it?
That's a refreshing change for a liberal...

Ron Sparks defeated him.
Some do see the light but not enough see the light while in office.
Rep. Tim Melton, D-Auburn Hills Michigan resigned from the Legislature to become national legislative director for Michelle Rhee’s StudentsFirst.
It enraged the teacher’s union but they’re helpless to do anything about it.
WHY is it always about race and not about being an AMERICAN?? Everybody is so worried about being "labeled" something. It's ridiculous. Yeah, you can bet he's thinking about jumping back into politics. Can't stand his liberal azz!
Meeting with the NAAWP.
Actually, he was pretty good on the second amendment but then that’s pretty much of a must in that district. Many folks down there are so poor that they still hunt for food.
His transformation is far from complete. It will be complete when he admits that the Congressional Black Caucus is as wrong at his former position on voter ID. Racism will remain until such groups as the CBC are relegated to the waste bin forever.
