I started sprouting seeds about 2 months ago. They are full of nutrients and would solve that craving for something fresh in the winter. I love them and hadn’t done them in decades.

Vitamin pills. Lots of them.

And a 1 year supply of any critical prescriptions. Which I have done for the 2 that matter to me.

Oh, and a couple of those filling and crown repair kits from the dental supply section at the drug store.

I’ve got a volcano stove/grill. It is tempting to add this to my stash.

Another thought my brother gave me. I have loaded up on the Campbel’s Chunky soups because they require no water and will also add needed fluids to your intake.

I haven’t run a total, but I figure that for $500 you can lay in a substantial emergency stockpile of canned goods and rice. Once done, eat the canned goods as you want and replace any used each week. In a couple of months you (your budget) won’t even notice the initial investment took place.

Remember, no disaster, so what. All that food is soon going up 10-20% a year. Guaranteed. Better return on your investment than a CD in the bank.

Mr S is pretty much humoring me. I am trying to stock up, slowly. Problem is, he doesn’t really believe me, but will believe his best friend or co-workers in a hot minute. If one of them say they heard they should stock up, he’ll start with no problem.

Nice to know I'm not the only one with one of those. A few years ago, I told him I wanted to buy more ammo, he thought I was over-reacting. He got to talking to some guys at work and found out how much they had on hand and where they buy theirs, suddenly it was ok to buy more ammo. So, I just keep plugging along and adding when I can. Every now and then he makes some concessions that I'm doing the right thing.

This time, it is impossible for the Fed to raise interest rates that high because it would make the debt …

So how does one prioritize with time running down?

Please go to SurvivalBlog.com. There are hundreds upon hundreds of really good articles there written by folks who have done it, are doing it and are just starting. How to prepare, prioritize, etc.

I'm good at it but I have found a wealth of info I never knew about. In fact, in preparation for a world without electricity, I have printed out a ton of material from Jim Rawles' site and put it in a 3 ring binder for reference.

Go there and read while you can. You won't regret it.

I almost bought the Mossberg but went for the Remington equivalent. It was the one on sale. I consider the two to be “ford or chevy”. I’d be happy with either.

Oh yeah, Sam’s is cheaper. I don’t know if it is for jasmine rice (as opposed to long grain).

I only use jasmine, personal flavor preference. I also prefer to patronize local Asian stores when possible because these people are local and are busting their asses to be self sufficient. A quality which is becoming rare among the American workforce/population.

1000-year-old beans found by archeologists in Arizona still sprout when planted and watered.

All of the handcrank radios I looked at used rechargeable batteries. The hand crank just charged the batteries, so they had the same problems as using rechargeable batteries in a regular radio, if you had a separate way to recharge the batteries. I hoped that I could find a radio that charged a super-capacitor to run on, but I have not found one yet.

Forget precious metals, but there seems to be a concensus that in the worst case that bullets will make a decent medium of exchange.

See, there is one thing missing from this discussion. That is the fact that things may not be all or nothing. Yes, we must prepare for worst case scenario. But it is prudent to prepare for the really bad, but not worst case. There are degrees of bad in which precious metals may be very useful.

We must prepare for a range of scenarios. Mad Max isn't the only thing we may be facing.

Here is one online source for the good corned beef I suggested:

I’d try local Asian stores first just to avoid shipping costs. But I have ordered from here.
