The Herman Cain "sexual harrassment" story has a few interesting side stories. The biggest?
Well, let's see....anyone remember Journolist? This nugget of a story from July 2010:
Politico might be an online publication, a part of the New Media, but when it comes to corrupted, left-wing arrogance they make the Washington Post look somewhat honest somewhat. Part of the reason I reserve a special place in my heart to store up a unique resentment for all things Politico is due to the very fact that they practice their dark arts online. Like a toxic virus they spread over to the Internet where the right (by design) and the left (by accident) are trying to forever kill off the very thing Politico is wolfish left-wing propagandists hidden in the sheeps clothing of journalism. And yet these are the same bastards journalists who launched a smear attack on a private citizen for asking Their One a perfectly reasonable question, obsessed over Sarah Palins wardrobe (and yet ranked Obama being asked about his relationships with Jeremiah Wright and Bill Ayers as a 2008 top-ten media blunder), and though they occasionally find Levi Johnston worthy of note, Department of Justice whistleblower, J. Christian Adams, remained a ghost up until and including Ben Smiths factually challenged Nothing-To-See-Here gift to his embattled president.
Oh, and did you know that some of Politicos journalists were members of Ezra Kleins now infamous JournoList, including Mike Allen, Lisa Lerer, and Mr. Ben I-Got-Yer-Back-Barack Smith?
Politico is the crew that "broke" the "sexual harassment" story.
Interesting.
It's also interesting how this thinly sourced story, with third hand informants, was timed for release on Sunday, knowing it would make front page news on Monday.
Journolist redux?
That being said Mr. Cain's campaign didn't handle it very well...more reporting from Politico:

I hate the media, almost as much as I hate politicians.
All I want from a news source is fair treatment. If they’re going to skewer politicians, do it to both left and right.
Herman Cain has an issue, years ago, that was resolved, and it’s brought up with no specifics.
Barack Obama admits in his book that he smoked pot and snorted cocaine, and not a peep. When I quote some of the more offensive quotes in his book, my moderate friends look at me like I made it up.
Cain will overcome
Agreed.
Mr. Cain’s path will probably not be stopped
by this dirt from Mitt Romney
and his malicious team of surrogate political cross dressers
and saboteurs.
High tech lynching by Karl (Marx) Rove and Romney operatives.
I will be sending my $99.99 check to Herman Cain’s campaign.
Thanks for pushing me over the edge, Romney!
Alinsky’s Rule 12: Destroy the Individual.
RULE 12: Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it. Cut off the support network and isolate the target from sympathy. Go after people and not institutions; people hurt faster than institutions. (This is cruel, but very effective. Direct, personalized criticism and ridicule works.)
Has anyone asked journalists about the (FBI) credible rape charge against Bill Clinton? How did they miss that one?
Each such instance has served to inoculate the public to some extent. By the time the election rolls around, this will be “old news”. Cain could have handled this better, but it doesn't necessarily mean it's over.
