Cannes: In a bid to break the tension ahead of the G20 summit, US President Barack Obama in a lighter vein told a notoriously looks-sensitive Nicolas Sarkozy that France's "First Baby" was lucky to inherit her former supermodel mother Carla Bruni's looks.
Obama, who has two daughters, congratulated Sarkozy on the birth of Giulia Bruni-Sarkozy at a joint press conference they held prior to the G-20 summit where world leaders will brainstorm how to solve the worsening Eurozone crisis.
"I want to mention that this is our first meeting since the arrival of the newest Sarkozy, and I want to congratulate Nicolas and Carla," Obama said.
"And I informed Nicolas on the way in I was confident Giulia inherited her mother's looks, rather than her father's, which I think is an excellent thing," the US president said as he tried to build rapport with his French host.
While the mediapersons and other officials present gave out a muted laughter, Obama's diminutive French counterpart Sarkozy had a rueful smile.
The two leaders have a history of tense relations. Sarkozy, 56, is notoriously sensitive about his looks, dieting constantly, and going out on power runs and cycle rides to keep in shape like his 43-year-old wife.
"Now, we share one of the greatest challenges and blessings in life, being fathers to our daughters," Obama added.
Giulia Bruni-Sarkozy was born last month in a Paris clinic.
Sarkozy has three sons from his two previous marriages, while Bruni-Sarkozy has an 11-year-old son, Aurelien, from a previous relationship.
That Obama is a laugh a minute! ;-)
Waiting to see pictures of the Baby..you can skip the pics of Obama visiting. Thank you.
He loves it when people make fun of his ears.
What a trashy person Zero is. His handlers must be kicking themselves (again) for allowing him to say a single word that wasn’t pre-scripted for him.
Btw, I don’t think Sarkozy is a bad-looking guy.
Sarkozy is 10 feet tall in comparison to Obama.
One sign of maturity is knowing when NOT to say something, even if you think it’s the most clever thing in the world.
DING, DING, DING...Inappropriate, inappropriate, inappropriate!!!!! ;)
Obama should worry more about someone offending his children by saying they look like their parents.
I passed the laughing and went to crying long ago. Obozo is a disaster anyway you look at him.
Open mouth.
Insert feet.
Tis better to have people think you’re a fool, than to open ones mouth and remove all doubt
Big Media is always there for Hussein, explaining his “jokes” and telling us how witty he is.

Hey, Barry.
This is what I tell my kids about that kind of trashy behavior.
“It ain’t funny unless we’re all laughing.”
Get it?
I didn’t think so.
And if Herman Cain had said this, we'd never hear the end of it.
leave it to a democrat to say something insulting about
sarkozy, considering his height.
I get it - and I make the point even more strongly with my kids (with pointed glances at my husband, when necessary).
“This sort of comment tells us nothing about the person you’re speaking of, but everything we need to know about you.”
