Oregon Police Fear 'Occupy' Protesters Arming Themselves for Looming Confrontation

PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland police believe that some protesters inside the Occupy Portland encampments are building shields and makeshift weapons -- including nails hammered into wood -- in preparation for when authorities attempt to clear the parks this weekend, police said Friday.

Occupy Portland organizers have repeatedly said the movement is nonviolent and have appealed to demonstrators to resist peacefully when the camps close at midnight on Saturday. They planned public marches and a potluck dinner before the deadline and hoped the public would take part.

But police said as many as 150 anarchists may come to Portland to take part in a possible clash with officers.

"If there are anarchists, if there are weapons, if there is an intention to engage in violence and confrontation, that obviously raises our concerns," Portland police Lt. Robert King said. "But I know we'll be able work through that and manage that, because we want to protect everyone there, especially the peaceful protester."

The last segment of Applegate’s classic tome, “Kill or Get Killed,” is about the violent civilian tactics Communist revolutionaries employ world over, and police methods to combat them. Much of it, and much of the rest of the book, is somewhat outdated, but still quite informational.

My boss’s husband is a Portland cop - hope he isn’t hurt.

Heard our awful Mayor here in Portland announcing that enough was enough, encouraged the occupiers to find another way but the tents were being cleared out. This has got to be the first time he went against his base.

I don’t see the communists succeeding but they have a way better shot at it now with the guy in the WH and the unions - not to mention people like the Ohio voters. Lets see - destroy the economy, blame the other side’s “greed”, incite violence, declare martial law, nationalize everything and suspend elections (fair ones at least), and voila - the United States of Cuba and the Obamas can do whatever they want without objections.

Bring it. One good, long, ragged volley and those who are still able will leave. That’s why they give cops guns.

***War activists known as the “Chicago Eight”.****

I don’t remember if they were found not guilty or if the case was just thrown out of court.

Afterward one of the eight admitted that they were “Guilty as hell”.

Funny, I don’t remember any of these nuts setting the standard by killing their parents first!

Bill Ayers couldn't do it..daddy would have cut off his "allowance".

The Weathermen imagined themselves the vanguard of a global revolution that would culminate with “the achievement of a classless world: world communism.” But they came from the very class they aimed to eradicate. Diana Oughton, who died in Weatherman’s ill-fated Greenwich Village bomb-factory in 1970, grew up on a palatial Illinois estate with servants, a goose pond, a deer park, and a 100-foot-high windmill. Oughton’s boyfriend Bill Ayers, the son of the chairman of Commonwealth Edison, received an allowance as he implored others to “bring the revolution home, kill your parents.” Kathy Boudin, later convicted of murder, grew up in the townhouse whose façade appeared on The Cosby Show to convey the affluence of the fictional family that resided within. If they had really wanted to spread the wealth, they could have started with their own.

John Reed, the first American to be buried on the grounds of the Kremlin, paid bullies to leave him alone as a child and later used his father’s money to attend Harvard, where he served as a cheerleader. The fledgling playboy traveled Europe on his father’s dime after graduation, paying top dollar for booze, women, and even dinner for dogs in an ugly-American exhibition of restaurant gaudiness. Before he embraced the idea of spending other people’s money through Communism, he made a practice of it. Who says a spokesman for the workingmen needs to have done a day’s work?

Verdict:
On February 18, 1970, all seven defendants were found not guilty of conspiracy.[14] Two (Froines and Weiner) were acquitted completely, while the remaining five were convicted of crossing state lines with the intent to incite a riot, a crime instituted by the anti-riot provisions of the Civil Rights Act of 1968.[5] On February 20, they were each fined $5,000 and sentenced to five years in prison. At sentencing, Abbie Hoffman recommended that the judge try LSD, offering to set him up with a dealer he knew in Florida.[15]

Appeal:
On November 21, 1972, all of the convictions were reversed by the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit on the basis that the judge was biased in his refusal to permit defense attorneys to screen prospective jurors for cultural and racial bias.[16] The Justice Department decided not to retry the case. During the trial, all the defendants and both defense attorneys had been cited for contempt and sentenced to jail, but all of those convictions were also overturned.

The contempt charges were retried before a different judge, who found Dellinger, Rubin, Hoffman, and Kunstler guilty of some of the charges, but opted not to sentence the defendants to jail or fines.[17]

Afterward one of the eight admitted that they were “Guilty as hell”.

Ayers was not one of "the Eight", but said this...

'Guilty as hell, free as a bird—America is a great country,' he [Ayers] said."

Misguided or not, they want to play “Revolution” and think its cool to run around acting like anarchist arseholes, they’ll find out real fast that it’s for real, not for play, the minute they try to inflict damage or injury on the cops.

I remember during the Kent State riots where one student was shot and the girl was screaming "They're using REAL bullets!" and I thought how stupid these people were. Revolutionaries ALWAYS get shot - usually the useful idiots.

“...They’re using REAL bullets!” ...”

Well, they were probably coached and told that it would rubber bullets.

The IDEAL thing is to find and eliminate the coachers and the hardcore agitators - quickly, quietly, and professionally.

And permanently.

Well, the real culprits aren’t out there. The organizers are in the wings.

Yes. The West Wing in particular. Fumigation is in order.

Bring in the Guard from the get go if there is credible evidence that these anarchists/leftists/marxists are arming themselves in preparation for this.

Line up and then announce through a loud speaker that anyone wanting to avoid harm and arret should leave now...then clean it up. Sends a message to the other groups around the country.

It’s time these murdering, dope dealing, rapining, flea infested, TB spreading seditionists were put down.

Cities keep making the same mistake of announcing, in advance, a deadline for when they will clear one of the camps.

While is may be a tactical "mistake," it's a legal requirement. Before police can initiate armed force en-masse against protesters, they are required to give a proclamation. The proclamation includes (1) what is expected of the protesters, (2) a deadline, and (3) the consequences of noncompliance.

It could get messy.

I don't think so. I've been going back and reviewing how the protesters in Portland have been dealt with and I'm convinced the City Council has been playing them like a fiddle.

PPD has a reputation for making the LAPD look like a bunch of Boy Scouts, but this new Police Chief has plans to make the protesters look like the scum they are.

He told them that if they want to be arrested, they should take a number and tell officers they want to be arrested and the police would process them as they had time.

Tells me that the Police are not going for a confrontation. I would not be surprised if the battle plan is simply to barricade them in and starve them out.

This will be interesting to watch, but the Portland City Council has been doing all of this in the open and painting a picture of the camp descending into chaos for some time.

I think they are setting the protesters up.

Really, not all cities have done that and there have been several no notice middle of the night raids already conducted by cities.
