Perry’s govt reform speech "This is not red meat. This is raw meat, still steaming from the cow"
Red State ^ | November 15, 2011 | Moe Lane

Posted on 11/15/2011 10:39:31 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

So, Governor Rick Perry made a speech today where he proposed the following:

* Ending the practice of giving lifetime appointments to federal judges (current judges would not be affected);

* Cutting Congressional pay in half;

* Cutting Congressional pay in half again if they don’t balance the budget by 2020;

* Cutting Congressional office budgets in half;

* Cutting the Congressional calendar by half;

* Criminalizing insider trading by Congressmen (no, actually, it’s not currently illegal for them to do that);

* Reducing spending to 18% of GDP;

* Privatizing Fannie & Freddie;

* Ending the funding of Planned Parenthood;

* Eliminating the Commerce, Education, and Energy Departments;

* Getting the EPA under control;

* Getting the TSA under control;

* Audit the government, including the Department of Defense;

* Freeze incoming federal regulations, and audit all of them for the last five years;

* Federal salary freeze for all non-military and non-law enforcement officials until the budget is balanced;

* And cutting the Presidential salary in half until the budget is balanced

This is not red meat. This is raw meat, still steaming from the cow.....

....And he’s guaranteed to ram an illegal-alien amnesty down our throats under the guise of calling is something else, but just omitting the word “amnesty”. And he’d focus plenty energy on other things we wouldn’t like very much because the people who have already bought and paid for his presidency will insist on it.

Listen up Colorado Cowboy Jay! All that GOP establishment money is going to Romney NOT Perry.

Donors to Bush absent for Perry “WASHINGTON — Fewer than one in 10 of the top fundraisers who helped George W. Bush shatter records for presidential campaign money in 2000 and 2004 have donated to Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s 2012 presidential campaign, a Houston Chronicle analysis of Federal Election Commission data has found.

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney holds a wide lead over other GOP presidential hopefuls in donations received from the 939 “Pioneers” and “Rangers” who raised at least $100,000 each for the Bush presidential efforts.”……

AND Perry says NO amnesty and the border WILL BE SEALED! Cartels KILLED off!

Tell that to Carter. I’m sure he’d disagree. Also, tell that to Al Gore and John Kerry.

Perry was “better” in the last debate, but he continued to have problems. If he wants to change minds in his favor, his debate performances need to be worked on. From what I’ve seen thus far I think his prep team is giving him too much to deal with, and he’s experiencing overload during the debates. He, IMO, needs to simplify what he is prepped with - give details where needed, but do not try and cram too much into the preparations.

Amnesty is NOT the major issue this election outside of a very vocal minority. Now, he has said time and again he is not for amnesty. If you are a one noter on immigration, you can converse with yourself. I’m not wasting my time on the issue. This thread is about reforming our broken federal government.

Now,if only three things are reformed, then that is three things that will be better than they are now. He’s pro constructionist judges which is vital to keep the checks and balances in order until reforms can be made through the constitutional process. Perry is pro 10th amendment which is another positive in correcting fedzilla until process of reform legislation is in place.there’s more of course but that is a start for you to think about.

Now, the ultimate goal is to kick zer0 and his band of Marxists czars to the curb.

Debates did not determine the elections of those people. It was simply one factor. Policies, positions, and party fatigue counted more with the voters.

Aside from the separation of powers being an issue with much of his wishlist, my objection is that I don’t believe a word the man says. He has a record of being a firebrand conservative when he’s running for office and being a cronyist establishment drone once he’s sworn in.

Perry is doing nothing but pandering.

how much of this did he do in Texas? How much did he shrink its government in his time there? What agencies did he eliminate?

Rick Perry is the first Texas governor since WWII to cut general revenue spending. Texas balances its budget. Texas legislators meet 120 days every two years.

AND

........."you can lay your fears to rest because in the last year the Texas public sector has shrunk by 26,000 jobs. In the last 12 months, Texas lost 31,300 federal employees, trimmed 3,800 state jobs, and increased local government jobs by 8,400 jobs."........... . Source

Texas government growth (and growth of debt) under Perry:

http://www.economicpolicyjournal.com/2011/08/epj-reader-confronts-rick-perry-about.html

It’s easy to promise stuff, but actions speak louder than words. When he had a chance to shrink government, he didn’t.

He sent all the trial lawyers running north to Oklahoma with tort reform. That elimination alone is epic.

And Perry has passed tort reform, loser pays and is a hero to businessmen in states where regulations are killing their businesses.

Dems must try to recast his job creation in Texas

"Conservatives hail it and liberals dispute the story, but one thing is certain about the Lone Star State's employment success: The number is real":

LA Times - Texas - The Job Engine [LA Times OpEd - July 3, 2011] "....At the same time — and this, of course, is the tough part for those on the left to swallow — it is clear that the state's limits on taxes, regulations and lawsuits are contributing to the job machine. "The most important thing I think that's happened to us is tort reform," Fisher, the Dallas Fed president, has said. He added that when John Deere and other companies have decided to hire in Texas, they've been largely driven by steps the state has taken to cap non-economic damages in medical malpractice suits and to make it harder to bring product liability and class-action cases..."

CALIFORNIA: …..“Texas Gov. Rick Perry has become a folk hero for people like Stewart as he's marketed his state as a low-cost and business-friendly alternative to California, which is fertile job-hunting ground for Perry.

Texas has added 929,000 jobs since 2001, while California has lost approximately 635,000 manufacturing jobs in that same time, Stewart said.

Answering questions after his speech, Stewart told the story of Perry sending programmed cellphones to CEOs in California with a simple message: "If you're interested in growing your business, please call me. I'm here to help."

"They're doing something right down there," Stewart said of what he dubs the "Texas miracle." "Gov. Perry will go anywhere, any time, to try to recruit companies into Texas."

Perry has taken the state's regulatory process and managed it himself, Stewart said………

[CA Economic Development Corporation President Mark] Lascelles emphasized that it does no good to belabor California's regulatory environment.

"Unfortunately, we can't avoid it. We have to deal with it," he said. Speaker focuses on job creation

MONTANA: Legal gamesmanship threatens our energy future “Texas Gov. Rick Perry is able to boast about job growth under his watch, noting that over 265,000 jobs, or nearly 37 percent of the jobs created nationwide since the summer of 2009, have been created in the Lone Star state.

He credits this growth to a few simple conditions: low taxes, a regulatory climate that is fair and predictable, and a legal system that limits frivolous lawsuits. According to the Wall Street Journal, nearly one-fourth of the 70 companies that left California this year relocated to Texas.

When new or relocating companies and investors survey the landscape and consider Montana, what do they see? Well, when it comes to natural-resource development, the landscape looks risky.

Recent headlines highlight two major resource development projects slogging through endless legal and regulatory challenges. Investment flees this kind of uncertainty, so Montanans interested in the future economic stability of this state should be wary of the signals we send…” --- [relates short history of 2 outrageous examples] --

“The common experience for Tongue River Railroad and Tonbridge Power is this: Even if you play by the rules, even if you follow the letter of the law, even if you engage with the public during a planning process, even if you get formal approval from the regulatory authorities, you are certain to face organized opposition whose sole intent is to frustrate project development to the point of financial starvation….” http://billingsgazette.com/news/opinion/guest/article_6d3cc561-9e75-5b38-ba7e-48e95de30c71.html#ixzz1YhlyJbmq

***********************

Perry environmental stance would transform EPA ....>>>>>Perry "approaches the issues from a very libertarian bent," said Jim DiPeso , policy director of Republicans for Environmental Protection. "The EPA would be in for some significant budget reduction. There would be no new intiatives, no regulatory programs that would be initated. There'd be litigation from environmental groups that believe he's not enforcing the Clean Air Act and Water Act as robustly as the law provides."

"Any regulatory programs would be really throttled back," he said. "He has shown no interest in climate policy at all. He doesn't accept the science."

With the governor's blessing, Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott is challenging at least six EPA greenhouse gas-related regulations. The state's underlying argument: The fundamental finding that greenhouse gases are a public health threat is scientifically flawed.

The federal government is pushing "hastily enacted, cascading regulations" on states and businesses, Abbott argued in a June brief filed on behalf of nine states in federal court.

Perry's approach to energy, DiPeso said, "would be to produce more," rather than discourage the development of energy projects, such as coal plants, that emit greenhouse gases associated with global warming.

"In terms of energy, (Perry) would pursue what many Republicans call the 'all of the above' strategy, with more energy development offshore and onshore," DiPeso said. <<<<<

http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2011/09/double-standard-romney-perry-grew-state-payrolls-as-governor/

“During Perry’s decade-long tenure in Texas, the state workforce has also blossomed, climbing from 328,800 in December 2000 to more than 377,600 in July 2011, a net gain of 48,800 state government jobs, according to the Texas Workforce Commission.

The more than 14 percent expansion of Texas state government under Perry far outpaces private sector job growth of 9.7 percent in the state over the same period.”

Conversion on the road to Damascus (or DC)?

"Amnesty is NOT the major issue this election outside of a very vocal minority."

Amnesty is part of the larger issue of unemployment and flagging incomes which is THE issue of this election. Apparently more than a few others agree with me on this, thus the main reason Perry is hovering just above single digits despite his incredible advantages in fund raising, being the sitting governor of Texas, and not being Mitt Romney.

Seriously - all he had to do was put down the Open Borders crackpipe, and he'd have waltzed into the Oval Office even with the cronyism problems. Instead, he decided to try and re-heat the corpse of McCain-Kennedy then insult our intelligence by calling it something besides an amnesty. He's taken millions in campaign donations from Open Borders nutters, and has come out publicly against every bit of reasonable workplace enforcement.

If an amnesty passes or we start letting in more than the 1 million plus we already do legally, it's over for conservative politics in this country - period. What happened to California will happen to 5-6 other states, and from that point out we would just be picking between different flavors of radical progressive socialism. GOP voters REALLY need to start thinking further than 4 years down the road.

I think you’ve forgotten the difference between the general and primary elections.

The general election is all about campaigning on what is possible... but the primary is for vetting the candidates, seeing where they are coming from and where they want to take the country.

And Perry just presented a nice plan that let’s us see where he’d like to take our country.

It doesn’t matter whether it’s possible or not, for it’s really just showing us what he’d like to see. Come next year, we’ll see more on what he’ll (if he gets the nod) actually try and do.

If you believe that Perry’s reform platform is “doable” under the current conditions in D.C. then you’re extremely naive.

Well said.

Perry has laid out great plans what are you going to do to help change the current conditions in DC? You need to do more than stand on the sidelines an say it can't be done.

McCain lost ALL credibility at a town-hall, when he told us we had nothing to fear from obama and that he was good man. The debate meant nothing McCain was and is a nonentity.
