Perry fires back at Hoyer over Tea Party remark
Baltimore Sun ^ | November 15, 2011 | John Fritze

Posted on 11/16/2011 12:20:47 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry took a shot at Rep. Steny Hoyer on Tuesday, arguing that the Maryland Democrat is part of a culture in Washington that is “making a great living up there…at our expense.”

In a speech in Iowa, the Texas governor outlined a plan to slash government spending in part by reducing salaries for lawmakers. Asked about the proposal earlier in the day, Hoyer suggested that Perry was pandering to the Tea Party.

“When people like Steny Hoyer come out there and go, 'Is this guy being serious?' Yeah, you better believe it Steny. Americans are serious. They're serious about the spending that's going on,” Perry said on a conservative radio show. “It's not a surprise to me when I laid out this fundamental reform … that career politicians like Steny Hoyer don't like my plan to overhaul Washington. They're making a great living up there.”

Earlier in the day, when asked about Perry’s plan to halve lawmakers’ salaries, Hoyer gibed the candidate for a recent debate performance in which he could not remember the third federal agency he wants to eliminate.

“Rick Perry? I have heard that name, yes. Oh, he is the one that has three -- yes, I can't remember what they are.”

Hoyer then dismissed Perry’s government-reduction idea.

Perry has voluntarily released his tax returns going back to the 1980s. In his most recent returns, he reported nearly $217,500 in adjusted gross income in 2010, and $51,000 in federal taxes, according to the Texas Tribune.

Time to remind people of his very first debate....when Little Rickey was "outraged" at the suggestion that he’d "only taken a $5,000 bribe" from Merck. Still one of my favorite moments in the entire campagin.

Heheh----another Magic Moment with the human price tag. And yet another historic P-doofus screw-up. Many thanks for posting a reminder.

We should have a contest---to vote for our fave Perry screwup.

Think of the fun....dredging up all of Perry's campaign debacles-----even as his million dollar ads about how great he is run on Fox.

That was my introduction to the great man. My only regret is that Bachmann didn’t nail him with the gaffe. Either too much of a lady or didn’t want to get stomped on for being “mean” by the msm and all the Perry wackos here at FR.

My second fave, of course, is the 16th Century gaffe. Has he ever corrected this or does he still think George Washington was a contemporary of Copernicus?

Michelle didn't call Perry on the debate Merck bribe gaffe....... b/c she has to walk a fine line. Politics is rough and tough but I think MB is trying to preserve her female credentials and not step into the fray.

I thought MB showed admirable restraint when Perry stomped all over her Iowa Straw Poll victory----which she had worked long and hard to achieve.

Perry is not a team player---it's Me First or nothing. He calculatedly manipulated the ISP vote from Texas---then threw his hat in on the day Michelle won with 4000 votes.

Perry pimpos were cued in to say "he won." And there he was, front and center smirking and waving the victory sign, posed in front of Iowa banners---as if he was the winner.....with a pathetic 700 write-ins.

Perry was on Beck this morning, too. He seems to be on fire the last few days. I hope he can get back in the saddle—I really do believe he would be good for this country.

I agree, Irenic..It's more like the Perry I know and respect.

Perry is the only candidate with a reasonable and intelligent PLAN to bring this monster Government under control. But as usual the airhead media is not interested in anything substantive.

Is’t like we are living in a giant Junior High.

Very true. I’d be anything Palin won’t endorse Perry (unless he wins the nom-Ha!). And if she does, I’m done with her. Yes, I said that.

” Rick Perry SAYS Washington pols are “making a great living at our expense.”....

....but where’s the data showing Perry’s exploding wealth since taking office? Perry practically invented “Crony Capitalism”.....he’s been called “the human price tag.”

One Perry donor even got his very own state regulatory agency. Perry exchanged an executive order for a hefty contribution from Merck. One entree to getting Perry to give your issue his time is a contribution to Anita’s agency-—Texans Against Sexual Assault. And so on, and so forth, ad innfinitum, ad nauseaum. “

YEP

ROTFL.....Anita probablay scratches out a beat on the ol' tin washboard while Ricky plays "The Theme from Rawhide " on his trusty harmonica during those cozy evenings by the fireside.

Maybe Cousin Earl Scruggs will entertain at the WH. LOL.

Palin won’t endorse Perry unless he wins the nomination.

She won’t because he told her he wasn’t running and she is also on the record for correctly pointing out his cronyism over Gardasil.

Perry exchanged an executive order for a hefty contribution from Merck.

What is your proof that Merck and Governor Perry were involved in a quid pro quo? Keep in mind that A, then B, therefore A caused B is not evidence of a quid pro quo.
