Bachmann handled the situation well, imho. She shot the mother a look before smiling and saying “bye-bye” to the little boy. The mother obviously was pushing her child to say what he said, and it appears Bachmann didn’t want to upset him. I feel very sorry for the little boy.

I’d have said “Was there anything else you were supposed to say?”, and watch the kid look back at Mommy for instructions.
