There have been a number of soldiers in recent memory who wound up on the wrong side of court martials for trying to make the president prove something. Lakin. Michael New. Yolanda Huet-Vaughn. Ehren Watada. It doesn't work very well or, apparently, very often.
New, Huet-Vaughn and Watada just decided to disobey orders. Lakin went through channels, talked to superiors, filled out required forms, made appeals, and talked to a congressman. There's a big difference between "I'm not going! Nyah!" and "I spent a year trying to get answers through appropriate channels, was told by my superiors that something isn't right but they can't do anything about it or give me any answers. My only remaining options are to ignore my conscience and duty to the constitution, or disobey deployment orders."
Even spelled out, you most likely won't see the difference. Most people who like to dump on Lakin can't or won't.

I say anybody that’s accused of any crime whatsoever should be lynched immediately. That would just reduce the workload of the average hard working news-reporter. All that the media would have to focus on would be TRUE and SERIOUS problems.

Non-Sequitur to Salvation
Probably “Oh Come All Ye Faithful” for one particular reason. The Kansas City Repertory Theater does “A Christmas Carol” every year and there is a part in the second act where several of the cast begin to sing “Oh Come All Ye Faithful”. And as they are doing so, the rest of the cast - and its’ pretty big - come down the aisles bearing candles singing along with them.

I could honestly not care less what they do on the east coast. We do things a bit different here in the heartland. Last Monday they lit the state Christmas tree in Topeka. I can go down to Crown Center in Kansas City and see the mayor’s Christmas tree all lit up by the skating rink. I’ll go see Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol”performed by the Kansas City Rep, and if I get there early enough I can watch the performers sing Victorian era Christmas carols
